About the author

I’m Marie, a children’s author. I write for all ages. From picture books, to young teens.
Before that, like a cat, I’ve had many lives. I’ve been a dancer, a secretary, a wardrobe assistant and a surtitlist. If you wonder what that is, basically I was showing slides of the english translation on live plays in Paris.
I’ve lived in many countries. Switzerland, where I was born, the USA for a few months, then England and now I’ve settled in France with my husband and my three kids.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2023I enjoyed reading this story of a girl who is passionate about dance. Jennifer (Jay), the main protagonist of the book, is a relatable fifteen-year-old girl with typical teenage issues. Her friends are also endearing characters.
Jay's biggest issue is that she does not get along with her newly single mother. Her mother is strict and doesn't approve of her dancing. The banter between the mother and the daughter is realistically portrayed.
The author writes in simple language, which is easy to understand. Though there are some slang words/phrases that modern teenagers use, I didn't have a problem reading them and learning from them.
The characters are fleshed out well, and so are the friendships/relationships, but I wish the author had taken time with the romantic development(s) because they were too sudden. Also, in the end, everything was resolved in a hurry. I would have liked a more gradual and logical character growth arc.
I recommend this book for teenagers and adults who like coming-of-age stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2023What a great story. Marie tells a tale adding humor and dance! We struggle along with Jay as she and her mother leave France to live in England after her parent’s divorce. Mom just wants Jay to be responsible and Jay just wants to dance. Awesome story!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really engaging read, lovely story
My Name Is Jay is a very engaging story, full of warmth, and her passion for hip-hop dance and her struggles to adapt to her new life in England kept me turning the pages. Some wonderful supporting characters too. I particularly liked her dance partners and Harvey, the cafe owner. A lovely, heartwarming story. If you've ever been the new person in a class, you'll relate to this and if you have a passion/ambition to dance, it'll be right up your street too. Thoroughly enjoyable.
