4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 82 ratings

Unfathomable powers, taken from the gods.

A new enemy, summoned from the very depths of the Underworld.

Ancient beings, waiting for a chance to strike.

After destroying the Order in Maradon, Aydiin and Byanca return to Genodra. Byanca’s homeland has fallen into anarchy, and new foes will test the young couple’s courage. Yet, where there are great dangers, there are also unimaginable opportunities. If Aydiin wants to defeat the Raven and save everything he holds dear, he will be forced to master divine powers and learn from the forgotten gods.

Across the world, Barrick continues his fight against the Undergods by infiltrating the Order in the northern nation of Naerdon. He hopes to uncover the demon-worshippers’ plans, but what he discovers instead leads him down a much stranger journey than he could have ever imagined.

Time grows short.

The sun has set.

Night approaches. The world may never see dawn.

"Well written, action packed and interesting. He makes a unique new world. I Can't wait to read the next book!" Beth, Amazon Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I’ve really enjoyed this series so far! It’s been a long time since I’ve read a fantasy novel that I became emotionally invested in and kept me up late reading. The plot is a fun can-they-save-the-world adventure and this second book was just as good as the first." Megan, Goodreads Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"An excellent continuation of the series. I can't wait to Read the third book. There were a lot of character groups going on different directions to do their part. I loved it though. My favorite fantasy series this year." Dana J Gilmore, Amazon Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a great book. It was a fun sequel to "The Rise of the Forgotten Sun." There are amazing characters, that are fleshed out very well, and following their story lines is addicting. It was hard to put the book down, because the writing is so compelling. I can't wait for book 3 to come out, so I can find out what happens next!

I was a little bummed about halfway through this compared to the first novel. Action is very minimal, story is constantly jumping around to the point where you lose track of who is doing what, and towards the last maybe 50-100 pages I had a hard time wanting to even continue reading and finish it. I feel like the primary characters from the first novel (Aydiin, Byanca, Barrick...) are barely even focused on compared the to first novel. I’m all about introducing new characters but this was just all over the place.
I already ordered “The Return” and I’m hopeful it’s more entertaining than this.

An enjoyable continuation of Aydiin’s story, though I think I enjoyed the new villain and how the flashbacks flesh out the story the most. The book moves at a good pace, and there are some good surprises that make you wonder how the story will end. I’m excited to see how all of the threads weave together in the conclusion.

I like the world Monson has created and introduced us to in Book 1. In The Impending Night, he expands the depth and breadth of the characters we met in Book 1 and introduces us to a bunch of new ones as well. I especially loved the second half, where I felt myself strapped in, buckled up and holding on for the roller coaster ride right through to the finish. I know I've got a winning tale on my hands when I'm willing to stay up late into the night on a weekday to find out how the whole thing ends, notwithstanding the fact that work is waiting and I'll be tired the next day. But to me, that is the sign of a great story, and I found that in The Impending Night. Well done I say! Looking forward to the END (Book 3).

As we learn more about the world and the stones and the medicines we see many twists and turns and yet we also start to see the hope for the future in book 2. So many questions raised and only some answered. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
