4.1 out of 5 stars 1,405 ratings

"Sexy, sweet, and with the right amount of angst. Reckless Abandon has it all." - NYT Best Selling Author, Heidi McLaughlin

Single and pregnant at eighteen was not what I had planned for my life, but after my fiancé skipped town on our wedding day, I had no choice. When his best man handed me the goodbye note, I thought my life was over.

Three years later, his best man is now my best friend. My family likes him. My daughter adores him. And me? Well, I’m hopelessly in love with him. Too bad I can never tell him how I feel.

A drunken kiss after our friend’s birthday party threatens to reveal my secret. I have two choices: confess my feelings for him or pretend I was too wasted to remember. Lying could mean missing out on a future with the man I love. Telling the truth could ruin our friendship forever. Should I play it safe or risk it all for our happily ever after?

I like how this book has some twists and turns to keep you interested between characters and their thought process. I love the friendship between the characters and how they are managing life as young adults, especially single mom with a very cute daughter.

First read by this author, and it was definitely a good one. I am ready for Book 2.

This was my first book by the author, and after reading the blurb, I decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a good, easy read. I loved Brynlee and Macon's friendship and how he was always there for her after her ex and his best friend left her pregnant on their wedding day. They spent the following years as best friends, not realizing they both had feelings for each other. It was great to see how things began to change between them and how they finally opened up about their feelings for one another.

Bryn was a single mom to a little girl named Harper, and Macon always tried to help them and was there for them when they needed support. Bryn couldn't deny her feelings for Macon, but she kept them to herself since Macon had a girlfriend who disapproved of their friendship. Everything changed when Macon's girlfriend was rude to Bryn, leading Macon to end their relationship. Bryn attempted to express her feelings to Macon, but since she had a bit to drink, he stopped her. She assumed he didn't feel the same, so she avoided him until they shared a moment and talked about their true feelings for each other.

Macon was a wonderful hero, and I loved how he loved Harper as his own. He and Bryn had a great friendship, and I enjoyed reading when they were honest with each other and decided to give their relationship a chance. They were both busy, but it was nice to read how they always made time for each other and found ways to be together whenever they could.

There was some drama at the end thanks to Harper's dad, but I loved reading how Macon and Bryn fought for their love and didn't let anything come between them. They had some problems, but they always came back to each other.

Now, I can't wait to read the rest of the books and see more about the side characters.

Reckless Abandon is such a cute best friends to lovers, single mom romance. Macon and Brynlee have such a sweet friendship that turns into such a caring and thoughtful relationship. He is so amazing with Brynlee’s daughter Harper, and the three of them are just so cute together. I could’ve done without there being both OW drama and drama with Harper’s dad, but overall it was a sweet story and a quick read.

This was a weird book for me. It was a mix of slow burn and fast burn if that makes any sense. They were best friends but once they got together they couldn’t seem to navigate it which makes no sense to me. They both have known each other for so long and they’ve built up their trust in each other but as soon as their friendship turns into a relationship, the trust seems to rapidly decline for no reason. I also hate that Brynlee kept saying Harper had no father in her life to play with her and read her stories at night and all this stuff but never acknowledged Macon did all of that every chance he got. I absolutely hated Sean and the fact that Brynlee took so long to flat out tell him everything and that she didn’t want him. Macon was absolutely amazing throughout the book. He was so supportive and, no matter what, he was there for her. I completely understood how he misinterpreted Sean holding Brynlee after what Sean told him prior.

I wanted to love this book, but I felt like it was missing that wow factor. I kept waiting for the big oh my goodness, but I didn’t find it. Initially the FMC and MMC and their misunderstanding was annoying. I know something was going to happen and wasn’t sure what. When it did it was very anticlimactic. It had good bones but missed the mark for me.

It’s rare for me to connect to a book on such a personal level as I did with this slow-burn, small-town, friends to lovers, single parent romance. But this book hit me in my core. Maybe because I was that teenage, single-parent abandoned by her baby’s father. Maybe because a friend who became my lover, stepped into the role of father for my eldest when he didn’t have too. Or maybe it’s all the above. Whatever the reasons, this book resonated with me on a deep level I had not anticipated.

Brynlee is a gentle teenage girl who falls a little too hard for her high school sweetheart, ending up pregnant. They agree to marry before the baby arrives. But as she get ready to walk up the aisle, her boyfriend’s best friend comes to her with a dear John letter.

A few years later Brynlee is a full-time college student, raising her daughter with the help of her family and her ex’s best friend—now her best friend—Macon. Macon has remained a constant support system since the day he gave Brynlee that letter. Over the course of those few years, Brynlee and Macon grow closer, unable to fight the feelings that were always present but that they were too scared to act on.

Just as they finally connect, fate is cruel to this young couple as people from the past, on both sides, resurface. These two have several hurdles to cross in order to be together. But oh, is that happily ever after worth it.

Enjoyable read. My rating is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A beautifully written friends to lovers story with depth of emotion from the characters, a story full of angst, hurt and healing. I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing book and how vulnerable and real the characters felt. The interactions were heartfelt and encapsulated everything truly amazing finding love and acceptance should.
