Aggressive Optimism: A Novel Inspired By True Events Kindle Edition
A unique yet relatable coming of age story fusing the emotional resonance of “GIRL INTERRUPTED” with the empowering essence of “LEGALLY BLONDE”
Nif, a small-town singer with dreams as big as Hollywood, finds her voice soaring to new heights after a breakthrough solo performance captures the attention of a media mogul. However, when a devastating accident shatters her dreams, she's faced with an unexpected journey of resilience.
In the wake of tragedy, Nif leans on her tight-knit family and steadfast friends to piece together her fractured world. Aggressive optimism, her trademark spirit, becomes her driving force as she navigates the labyrinth of challenges that now define her path.
This unique coming-of-age tale, reminiscent of the narrative depth found in "Girl, Interrupted," seamlessly intertwines with the uplifting essence of "Legally Blonde." As Nif discovers an uncharted wellspring of inner strength, her story becomes a beacon of inspiration, not just for herself but for those touched by her indomitable spirit.
Aggressive Optimism is more than a story of dreams deferred—it's a powerful exploration of mental health, the bonds of solidarity, and the unwavering power of perseverance. Join Nif on a journey that transcends tragedy, and witness the emergence of a young woman whose song of resilience echoes far beyond the confines of her small-town roots.

"As a social scientist and author of books and articles about the care and treatment of children and adolescents, there are two qualities of Jenna Edwards's Aggressive Optimism that I find unique and admirable and that I believe recommend it for young readers coping with mental health or any challenges. First (and hopefully without giving anything away), Aggressive Optimism does not present a panacea nor does its protagonist possess magical powers or gifts that allow her to overcome adversity. Rather, the tools the protagonist finds and uses are real and available to most, if not all, young people. Second (and, again, I hope I am not giving anything away), the protagonist's journey is not linear. As with real progress, there are obstacles and regressions. I believe that young readers will recognize their thoughts, insecurities, and fears in those of the protagonist; that they will find comfort in seeing that they are not alone in their struggles to overcome challenges; and that they will find the techniques and the inspiration to keep trying."

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2024I bought this book because the main character has the same name as one of my best friends (Nif) but the story kept me engaged. Jenna Edwards writing is sincere and relatable. Our PTSD might not be from a suicidal moment or accident, but somewhere most of us have some traumatic incident we hold onto. This book makes you have that reality, take a deep breath, and move forward.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2024I write this review through tears. I think those tears started around page 20 and didn’t really stop through the end. I had to put the book down and immediately write this review. This author definitely wrote the book from her heart. You can feel it. She handles seriously traumatic events with care, but also with humor (this would make a wonderful movie). She really made me rethink awful moments in my life and see how they have made me a stronger (hopefully better) person today. Though I try to be a positive person, I’m far from being an Aggressively Optimistic one. However, knowing this story was inspired by the author’s real life journey, and going with her on that journey, this book makes me want to be aggressively optimistic and see where living that way can take me.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024Once I started reading, I had such a hard time putting Aggressive Optimism down! It is a thoughtful and well written book about a mental illness journey and is full of emotional ups and downs. I was on the rollercoaster following Nif and was cheering for her through each chapter. I highly recommend this read!

It really takes this kind of effort to overcome challenges in our lives.
Jenna takes us through a wondrous emotional roller coaster ride. As a high school student, she is on the cusp of making her singing career come true when tragic strikes her and seems, at the moment, to shatter her hopes and dream.
We see this beam of light of Jenna get thrown down into the darkness of the abyss, yet with calculating crawling of evolving she hoist herself back into the light, but the light, the dream, is a little bit different from what she once had envisioned.
During this transformation, Jenna’s incredible perspective soon becomes a perspective we could assuredly adopt.
This is a page turner burner. Climb aboard this roller coaster; it's a fun ride.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2024I felt so many emotions reading this inspiring book! As an instructor, I highly recommend this book to anyone working with teens. I'm even thinking about adding this book as an extra credit assignment. I thought I understood PTSD, but through the author's narrative, I realized it's important to understand how it impacts people suffering from it, especially young people. I also learned the importance of a support system for people suffering from trauma and mental illness. I absolutely loved Nif's friends, Zane and Karsten. Especially when they gave her a journal and titled it Aggressive Optimism. Lastly, walking through Nif's journey helped me understand that recovery is a lifetime commitment. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. Thank you for sharing this story with us!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2024It’s not every day you read a book like this, where a mental health journey is both compelling reading and aggressively optimistic! Inspirational without being preachy; informative without being judgmental. For anyone going through, or anyone standing with someone going through a mental health issue, particularly the teen demographic, the author puts tough moments into words to help us all understand what it feels like, and what it can look like. I felt like I learned something, increased my capacity for empathy, and definitely cheered for the main character, Nif. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2024"Aggressive Optimism" is a truly powerful story about the importance of survival, learning, and growing through the obstacles that we are faced with throughout our lives. Reading about Nif's journey reminds me of the importance of embracing the "growth mindset" and understanding the limitations of stoicism. The strongest people I know have done the work to heal themselves by facing and dealing with their pain. They have then shared their stories with others to show them that they are not alone and that mental health is vital to one's quality of life. I'm so grateful that this story is being shared with the world. It is so needed!
