Overview of Communications and Perception Analysis: Principles and methods used to analyze perception and experiences; includes an introduction to Communications Supply Chain Optimization Kindle Edition

There are many creative communicators. There are many great strategists. There are many good managers of communications processes. Unfortunately, most seem to work without a construct. My dad, an engineer who built buildings, dams, railroads, highways and transmission towers, cautioned that “When you build a bridge that is going to carry millions of people for years, there is no room for trial and error; you need a strict protocol.” To cement his point he would add a surgeon story asking whether I would rather have a rigorous or approximate specialist cutting me open.

Do communicators have a construct both to create and analyze communications systems and output? Do they follow a protocol? Are they verifiably trained? Some do, too many don't.

I dare offer a method that has been in constant use and refinement since 1977. Long ago, in 1994, I decided to share it with my peers and now I do so here for all to consume.

We’ll begin by understanding the world in which messages travel; understanding how the reality of our human environment is key to the mastery of communications. Second, let’s understand the process of perceiving signals; messages don’t just pop into our heads. Third, let’s agree as to why we’re communicating; are we trying to provoke action? Fourth, verifying that the message satisfies the goal requires a method of analysis. Fifth, maybe it’s time we revisit something as simple as the communications workflow and develop a pragmatic optimization method. Lastly, let’s take a peak at the future.

Note that this work is the synthesis of the proprietary and confidential 1000-page Manual for Communications Analysis which serves to inform my professional communications analysis work.

My passions are my family first, friends second, global development issues third, then amateur radio, and adventure motorcycling. My jobs used to be communications and the military. My vocations are photography and filmmaking. My origins are Canadian, my travels include the Arctic, the Sahara, the Kalahari, the Alps and about twenty war zones and humanitarian theaters. I have three writing passions. The first is anything related to communications and perception. The second is how to save the world. Apparently the third, and most recent one, is writing novels.
