If you have ADHD, your brain doesn't work in the same way as a "normal" or neurotypical brain does because it's wired differently. This difference in circuitry is not somehow wrong, incomplete, or shameful. However, it does present you with significant challenges like time management, organization skills, forgetfulness, trouble completing tasks, mood swings, and relationship problems.

● understanding the complicated emotional landscape and thought life of those with ADHD
● learning how people with ADHD understand time, energy, and motivation

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2024Of the several books I have been reading about ADHD, this one is much more readable. It provides plenty of information without being dry and sleep inducing.
At age 75 being diagnosed with ADHD I didn’t feel like things fit to convince me that I was. With the examples in this book I could understand how varied symptoms are and that I definitely had ADHD.
It has given me different points of view and is helping me realize ways to cope with things I have difficulty with and what is “just” my non-neurotypical brain that is unique and not a bad thing.
If you or someone you care about understanding, this may be the book for you. I actually started with a library audio and print copies. Then bought both to use as reference to re-read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2022I am an adult woman who has struggled with ADHD through my life. I still struggle with the embarrassment it has caused me and the pain of not being able to be who I thought I could become had I not had this monkey on my back--or brain? I have invested in different counselors and many books. I found out about this author from attending a seminar where she was the guest speaker. I am 63 years old and I have never found anything as enlightening and wonderful as this book and the wonderful doctor who wrote this book!! I will be forever grateful because not only do her explanations help you to understand your brain, but the ideas presented and the suggestions are SO helpful that I feel like I have FINALLY found REAL help!!! So much so that I donated my other books on the subject--and I had a small library full. I wish Dr. Rosier would write more. I want more! I want to learn more ways to manage my life and my self. While I am not through the whole book, it's been so helpful that I find myself savoring it and really, really thinking about what she's said.
I honestly don't recall anything religious about this book. I have found nothing offensive at all. Quite the opposite! If you're struggling and you're trying to understand yourself (or a family member or friend), and you're trying to help yourself, this is the book for you! It's a easy read yet very informative!! I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Rosier for her writings in Additude magazine and the guest appearance she made through the seminar which introduced me to her and her philosophies. Oh..one last thing..she has ADHD. She totally understands the struggles. She is very, very kind, supportive and compassionate.
One of the best books I've bought!!! SO happy!!! SO grateful!!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024Dr. Tamara Rosier focuses on living and functioning with ADHD. Her wealth of knowledge comes from techniques that she has developed to help her clients (as well as herself and kids). This is an excellent book if you want to start managing and working with your brain and adhd or you have a loved one with adhd.
I just wish it went a little deeper in some areas, thus the 4 star rating. That's a personal wish though.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2024This is a very useful book that is easy to read and apply.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2024I learned so much! Helped me ao much to learn.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2024I've been struggling with ADHD tendencies & I finally decided to dedicate myself to listening to audiobooks while I work (when I would normally get distracted) & this book was a constant motivation while working! It helped me understand myself so much more. I highly recommend it! I'm motivated to listen to more.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2022I appreciated the balance in this book - clear concepts; discussion of real issues for those with ADHD or those who love them - and what to do about it; practical application from actual coaching, and wonderful stories that give humanity to the challenges of this community (of which I am a part). I felt seen, valued - and hopeful. Marvelous balance of science, experience with actual clients, and anecdotes that were warm, inspiring and challenging.
Practical application tools - worksheets, questions, models - right in the book! The author could have made a companion workbook but included it all right here.
Rich, varied and diverse sources of research, information, metaphors, and examples - from Alice in Wonderland to research articles to sound theory to Dr. Who! And - written in a way so it doesn't bog down in just one area. A quick snippet of research to add credibility, the framing of a concept to build understand, then a story/anecdote to illustrate. Makes the book highly readable.
Well done. I highly recommend, and have not only read it twice myself, but also sent it out to a number of friends and colleagues. (And - can't seem to find the overt religiosity referenced by another review? Are we reading the same book? None of the other reviews seem mention it either?) A great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilfreiche Strategien für den Alltag

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
Written well ... easy to read ... most of it felt like it was written for my brain and I could completely relate. Other parts, I didn't relate to but that's the way ADHD works so it was fine for me and just increased my awareness. Reassured me about all those things I've been told are a little odd but work for me. I would recommend for an insight into the complications of motivation and ADHD - whether for yourself or a family member to help their understanding of you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the better boos on the topic
A lot to relate to and a lot to learn. The book offers a healthy balance of the pros and cons of ADHD. Good mix of theory and practical advice. Would recommend if you want to go deeper into the topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different to most books about ADHD
This book really sings to me. Its the first ADHD book i've found that actually comes from the point of view of the person with it. Its not logical technical info, as if written by a professor, its more the actual living experience explained. I've found out why tasks i need to do are coloured with high emotion. I've learned about "shame hoarding" which is why my home is not comfortable to me, and what to do about it. Thank you for a really useful and easy to read book!

5.0 out of 5 stars So eye opening.
Well I get it now. So this is why I am how I am. Now the work begins. A great read for adults with ADHD, especially people diagnosed late in life.
