I love love love this book!! I was able to get a really cool history lesson from this book about. I love how the author uses the teacher and the children's conversations to break down the Haitian Revolution. Jenny Delacruz takes a topic that is ordinarily taught in school in such dry boring fashion and adds her story telling flair with amazing illustrations and gives us a true historical revelation in a fun and amazing insightful way. Thank you for such amazing read!! I look forward to reading more of your books in the future!

I must say at the outset that, although this is a picture book, it is NOT for little kids. It is basically a conversation between a teacher and her class as she takes them through the history of Haiti. My 9-year-old son learned something new but the younger one tuned off. So use it wisely.
That being said, it is much easier to remember the details when it is put in picture book format - so well done to the author for trying something new!

Fridays with Ms. Melange: Haiti is a good picture book for older kids that teaches them about Haiti's history. It also celebrates ethnic diversity as evident in the illustrations. While the information might be difficult for a young child to comprehend, and older child could learn a lot. This would be a good resource for home-schooled kids ages 8-11.

I particularly enjoyed the diversity of the students in the classroom. The book is a mix of narrative and comic strip. Excellent analogy used to introduce the history and current state of Haiti, at a very high level.

I loved how the author brought history into the story. I learned some more things about our past history that I had no idea about. Unfortunately, a lot of our history is full of bad past situations. This book can be used as a great way to start into a history unit. Well done!

I liked that this book educates children on some of the true facts of history instead of misleading them. For example, Christopher Columbus "finding" America. You can't find anything that was already inhabited by people. The book is also well-illustrated, and I liked seeing that one of the students has vitiligo.

I thoroughly enjoyed the history lesson about Haiti. The author tells the story in a way that simplifies some very complex topics involving Haiti’s fight for freedom. I’ve read their history & this book is an accurate depiction for this age group. Well done.

As a homeschooling mom, I was always looking for books that were educational and informational. History is always an important subject. I love the way the author turned an important lesson about the revolution of Haiti into story that kids can learn and enjoy.
