From the manufacturer
about us
- Cole's Wild Bird Products Company is a true "mom and pop" success story. Back in the early 1980's, Richard and Nancy Cole started feeding experiments in their backyard because the "birdseed in a bucket" they bought at the grocery store wasn't attracting the beautiful songbirds they wanted to see. They devoted hours upon hours researching the dietary needs of their feathered friends to find just the right combination of ingredients that would bring the most birds to their bird feeders. Neighbors started noticing the increased bird activity in the Cole's yard and came knocking for the secret. Soon the first dreams of an entrepreneurial business were born.
- They would mix and bag their own seed in the garage at night after work and deliver it to neighbors and local stores on the weekends. A few years later Richard's daughter, Elaine, joined the family enterprise.

AI-generated from the text of customer reviews
Customers like the quality of the sauce. They say it works fairly well, is potent, and is more effective on suet cakes than the pre-peppered stuff. They also say a little goes a long way and is very well worth having around.
"...One bottle may cost some but it’s so very well worth having around. I hope you’re having the success I have had with your squirrels & feeders...." Read more
"...But, overall works fairly well. Better than the “hot” seed as you can increase intensity depending on strength of your squirrels." Read more
"...The plastic bag is filling up with fluid. I would have given it a 5 star rating if it wasnt for the defective bottle...." Read more
"I rarely write reviews but this product is amazing. Squirrels had been emptying our bird feeder and once we added this to the birdseed...." Read more
Customers like the effectiveness of the sauce. For example, they mention it does the job of keeping squirrels away, and raccoons stay away from their bird feeders. That said, some say it doesn't bother the birds.
"...Cole’s Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce made my squirrels disappear & made my birds happier!! I love my birds & have multiple feeders...." Read more
"...rod every 3-4 days (or right after it rains) but it does the job of keeping the squirrels away. Btw, our bird feeder hangs off the edge of our deck...." Read more
"I've purchased this for years. It works excellent on keeping away squirrels...." Read more
"...It does keep them away, don’t get me wrong, but it is terrible to use without gloves...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the value of the sauce. Some mention it's well worth the money, saves them a lot of money on birdseed, and is an economical way to treat seed for their platform feeder. However, others say it'd be a good idea to buy premixed bird seed, as it'll save you money.
"...This sauce is worth every penny I spend on it. It works! Squirrels will run away!!..." Read more
"...I doused it with Cole's and it helped. Bottle is expensive and I needed double what they recommend using." Read more
"...We've seen squirrel visits almost completely eliminated and are saving money on seed as the squirrels absolutely ate more than the birds...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the strength of the sauce. Some mention it's very strong and lasts a while, while others say it'll not last very long and the potency wears off after a time. The plastic bottle is rather unstable and easily tips over if bumped.
"...It is super strong, wear gloves and don't breathe in. Might work better for others." Read more
"It works really well in the beginning and then seems to fade in it's potency after a couple days." Read more
"...No more cat! This is strong stuff, so I wear gloves to keep it off my hands/skin. Really glad I took a chance on this product...." Read more
"...Yes…it’s a little pricey…but it lasts a long time." Read more
Customers are mixed about the ease of mixing. Some mention it's easy to use than they thought, and mixing the seed and sauce is a quick process. However, others say it takes time to mix up, is messy, and time consuming.
"...Mixing the seed and sauce is a quick process. I use a white bowl and have experienced zero staining...." Read more
"...So, the upshot of the deal is that the container is very hard to work with, the nozzle pours out instead of in a small stream...." Read more

"So easy to mix and a lot less expensive to buy premixed. It is a little work" Read more

Summer 2021 I’ve continued to use this squirrel sauce now not nearly as much as I once did. Squirrels are no longer common since I began using this in 2019. If one happens to stop by & aims at my platform feeder I mix the sauce specifically on that food & it’s gone fast! I no longer have squirrels climbing my regular feeders like they once did. This sauce has brought such peace to my 2 bird feeder areas. One bottle may cost some but it’s so very well worth having around. I hope you’re having the success I have had with your squirrels & feeders. Happy Bird Watching!
Initial review:
Cole’s Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce made my squirrels disappear & made my birds happier!! I love my birds & have multiple feeders. Over the years the squirrel population at my feeders increased. Early 2019 they took over. Squirrel proof bird feeders along with any type of squirrel blocker never kept them away. I tried the rodent spray/multiple things, nothing made the squirrels go away until I finally choose to purchase Cole’s Seed Sauce! With time & patience I was squirrel-free!! I was relieved & along with my birds, HAPPY. I read many reviews. I hope this one helps you. #1 Preparation & Dedicated Time #2 Keeping yourself safe #3 Following the instructions #4 The clean up. I’ve attached pictures of what I determined I needed to do the job right. It took some time but it works for me. I had a major squirrel problem & I haven’t seen one near my feeders in months. I began this process in May. It took about 2 weeks for the squirrels to get a taste or smell of Cole’s sauce & they were gone!! They weren’t hanging from my feeders or even on the ground eating dropped feed. Indeed GONE! Yes, I initially was worried on how the sauce would impact my birds. After about a week I was seeing more birds than ever! They do love their feed with this sauce. I solely use sunflower seeds. I have so much to share from my experience so you too can feel the relief I did in NOT seeing squirrels & truly enjoying my birds. •The bottle is securely closed. It’s recommended to use gloves & avoid exposing it to your skin. This is vital as it has a hot sting to it & the smell is one you do not want to inhale. “Flaming” indeed. These words are from my experiences & I now have a simple procedure in place. As you see in my pictures I use 1 big steel bird feed holder for the mixture. I have a 2nd filled with ready to use sunflower seeds. Purchasing a 2nd can was the key. Based on the directions I figured 20 pounds of bird feed needed a 1/3rd cup of sauce. It’s worked perfectly. I bought long sleeve gloves to protect my skin. Thoroughly mixing the sauce evenly with the seed is important. The birds love every seed that’s covered. Rain wetting the seed didn’t impact its purpose at all. I initially made 20lbs of seed but I’ve increased the batch to mixing 40lbs at a time because my bird population has increased & I don’t mind! The creator of this Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce was a genius. I’m thrilled with this sauce. I realized I had to take the TIME, remain DETERMINED & practice PATIENCE in order to find SUCCESS. Commitment made my bird feeders and yard SQUIRREL-FREE. The VALUE of this sauce is substantial obviously. I have it as one of my subscribe & save items so I have the convenience of ordering monthly as needed along with a cost savings.
Aside from all I wrote I want to caution you to avoid having the used gloves, measuring cup, etc come in direct contact with anything. I’ve realized the importance of this after having skin irritations to simple but not so simple contact with a glove touching something else I’d be touching with my bare hands. •After the mixture is complete I place everything in a plastic bag & I carefully wash all of it with hot water & soap. If this sauce gets on your skin it’s not enjoyable & it did become a persistent irritant on one occasion. I’ve learned to work fast now that I have a system in place because even with my thick gloves on I can begin to feel an burning irritant coming on. Be careful not to get your nose too close & not to inhale any of it. I’m so happy with this product I can’t recommend it enough. Cole’s directions on the bottle was my guide & then I created my own system from that. I realize this is a lengthy review but I’m passionate about my birds & not about the irritating squirrels! :) If you feel the same please give this a try. You won’t regret it. I hope my words & pictures help you. Good luck & happy bird feeding & watching!
