- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2022This is such a great book filled with loads of important information! It really captured what our child went through! If only I would have known is what I constantly say about our son. If only the professionals we had in our lives would have known … we would have gotten his dyslexia diagnosis earlier and had better interventions younger! This book makes understanding the need for explicit, structured literacy easy. I have bought several copies and given them as gifts to teachers & the pediatrician! This book is concise and was written in a very parent friendly manner. I highly recommend it!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2022Written in a simple story format, this book gives loads of information in a quick read. There is NO EXCUSE for missing this essential information. The author breaks down the essential elements of literacy, what to look for, warning signs, and how to remediate. She gives parents the tools they need and the questions that they need to ask. I HIGHLY recommend this book to all parents, teachers, pediatricians, and anyone who works with young children. We can all make a difference in helping children learn literacy.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2022Today, I donated a copy of this book to my children’s pediatrician office. Having three kids, I am well aware of the first pediatrician visit and their talk about the importance of reading to your child. This book is a quick read that creates more layers of learning, rather than just reading to your child and surrounding them with books.
I think I’ll donate a copy to my local library next.
Thank you, Faith Borkowsky for being such a huge advocate for this work. Very important!

There are no words to describe how practical this text is. It is written in an extremely relatable way and it just. makes. sense. I've read a LOT of texts on the science of reading(Moats, Birsch, Tolman, etc) and this text has moved up to the top of the list to give to parents. I just bought copies for every one I know with kids under 5. Literally, everyone of them. Its full of helpful tips and practical activities. Please buy this book. You can read it in an afternoon and it will change your life.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2021Thank you. Your book breaks down so many complex issues into a light, easy read. It’s perfect for busy, overwhelmed parents/teachers and way more effective than me rambling at them & sending a million articles. (I still do.)
I send this book to friends to help them advocate for their children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instinct
Excellent. I always knew that, like me, my son had dyslexia. Even at the age of three I knew but had I had this book I would have had the words to describe how I knew.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really useful
I bought this to give insight into possible dyslexia problems for our grandson, but it was very basic indeed and I read through it in an hour feeling cheated. All the information is useful, but in no way sufficiently insightful or practical for a parent. Even lists of suitable book series would have been an improvement. Very disappointed
