    I have a nutrient mixing tank for an indoor garden that has a pump at the bottom to keep the nutrients in suspension while I am watering my plants. I was plugging the pump in each time I was feeding my plants and, as I often do at my age, forgetting to turn it off. So I had this idea of what I needed - a device with one outlet for the pump, an on button and a timer that would shut it off if I forgot. So I started searching on Amazon not even sure how to word the search but stated to find trimmers for shutting off irons and curling irons - which makes a heck of a lot of sense. Most of them have settings for 1 hour minimum and going up. This was the only one I found that had a 30 minutes setting and only the one setting.

    It works out great. I can press the button to run the pump and if I forget to shut it off when I am done, it shuts off 30 minutes later. How cool is that. Only one push is required since it only has the one setting. Plus, if I do remember to shut it off, I can just press the button again and it shuts off. Not sure that was mentioned in the description so it's a good thing to know.

    Oddly enough, now that I have the timer to keep me from leaving the pump on, I have never forgotten to turn it off - not once since I've had it. I am sure there is some psychological explanation for this weird behavior....doesn't matter, cause the timer's got my back.

    Anyway, nice little timer that is simple in design and does exactly what it is supposed to do requiring the least amount of effort.

    I bought one of these several years ago to use on a nearly daily basis for a floor fan that airs out the shower stall. It worked great until last week. When I pressed the button, it made a rapid clicking noise and would not turn on.

    Disclaimer: Unless you REALLY know what you're doing (and assume all risks), ignore the rest of this review.
    Being a retired engineer, I played a hunch and guessed that an electrolytic cap had failed. I opened the unit up and replaced the 47uf 50V timing cap. The old one was open. Now it's working again.
    Others have noted the warm case and constant power drain. This is due to transformerless low voltage power supply circuit that feeds the nominal 5V to the 555(?) based trigger circuit. There is a 1W power resistor/zener diode regulator that has to drop the rectified 120V down to 5V. Maybe in the future a newer model will have some passive vent slots so that the caps are not getting baked in the case.

    This Simple Touch C30004 timer is solely for 30 minute timing. I purchased mine for a battery charger, which should not stay on continuously, particularly with a battery in it. The Lithium battery is rated to be stored in an unplugged charger, and to charge from empty in 30 minutes. While I don't empty the battery, the timer has been a perfect solution for automatic shut-off. I am purchasing another for the charger used on my (battery operated) power tools.

    Operation: push the timer button to turn on. The indicator LED turns on when the timer relay is activated. Push the button again to turn off, if desired. Otherwise, turn-off is after 30 minutes. I haven't measured the precision of the 30 minutes, but it is sufficiently close for my purposed.

    Reliability: I have only been using it intermittently for about 3 months, so can't address long-term reliability. However, even a cheap relay with 15A contacts should perform reliably for several years.

    One question was about the receptacle on the timer. I've had no issue plugging my 2-wire charger into it. Haven't use a 3-wire (i.e., grounded) plug.

    Another question was about rating. The timer (relay) is rated for 15A resistive load, and less for electronic loads, particularly ballasts. Many electronic ballasts tend to have a significant current surge when turned on. This surge can damage the relay contacts if the load is too high. Thus the de-rating for electronic ballasts, and some other electronic loads. If the relay contacts are damaged, it will eventually stop switching, and may even arc. Note, this is from my professional experience -- I have no relationship with the manufacturer of this product.

    Bottom line is that I'm quite satisfied with this simple functional timer.
