Her first, "Rock, Brock, and the Savings Shock," is about twin boys who disagree about how to handle their weekly allowances. Other books in the series address predatory lending, compound interest and more — all in fun, rhyming stories about animals and princesses.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2021As a nation, we do a woefully inadequate job of instilling financial literacy skills in children and young adults. Sheila Bair has set out to remedy this with her delightfully written and illustrated series, Money Tales. Her most recent installment in the series, Princess Persephone Losses the Castle, teaches children (and hopefully parents who read to them) about the dangers of predatory mortgage lending. The opportunity to buy and maintain a home is among the most accessible means of building family/generational wealth. Too often, unscrupulous lenders rob families of their American Dream. Sheila Bair is doing her part to educate children and their parents so that they do not fall victim to such practices.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021Another great installment in Sheila Bair's Money Tales series, this one follows Princess Persephone of Ganymede as she battles a loan shark and ends up getting her ice castle repossessed! (Don't worry, she gets it back.) Aimed at kids ages 5 and up, the book also contains valuable lessons for adults about avoiding scams. Complete with a friendly orange dragon (like Shakespeare's fools, usually the wisest character around), this book is proof that you're never too young to start learning about managing your money - and it can be fun
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2023The book subject matter is very important-reading contracts and avoiding scams.
However, the princess gets a lawyer and she just magically makes everything right.
Confronting the thief or going to the police would’ve been a way more useful lesson.
There’s no such thing as magic.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2021With lots of families doing home improvement projects this past year, this delightful book offers a timely cautionary tale in a fun and engaging way. At our house, we recently completed several home improvement projects so the kids really related to Princess Persephone's predicament, and especially liked learning that there is help if you get in over your head.
The illustrations are as good as the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021Oh, my! This book is hysterical. Although illustrated (beautifully) and told in rhyme, the story is actually intended for somewhat older kids. Who knew a dire tale about mortgages, predatory loans, and the need to read contracts could be such fun? Share it with your favorite little money managers!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2021Our daughter is learning how to read, do math, and count money in kindergarten. What else is a better way to reinforce those habits AND start to develop financial literacy. It's a nightly read before bed. Excellent book and author.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2021I bought this book for my grandchildren. It’s a fun way to educate children about the need to look before you leap, especially if you might lose your castle!
