I liked that this book covers losses of all types — from physical (death) to things like loss of a sense of safety from childhood trauma. The activities can be kind of intense, but they were effective for me. They helped me get to a place where I could be honest about my relationship with the deceased; not everything was rosy and not everything was a dark storm cloud. Reminded me of 12th step relationship inventory work, but with more specific framing around grief.

I am a mental health therapist and another therapist recommended this book to me after losing my mother. It has been very helpful to my process and has also given me some helpful ideas for work with clients. My focus in my practice is more with young children and so I haven't done a lot of grief work with adults, this book is helpful to improving my own practice as well as working through my own grief.

I am a mental health therapist and I got the book as a colleague suggested it when my daughter had a miscarriage. It ended up helping me to grieve the loss of my son to schizophrenia. He is still alive but he is definitely not the same. It helped me to forgive him for being mentally ill, which I had been in denial about (the resentment and the powerlessness). Also to forgive myself for not being able to save my daughter from her pain.

I have recommended the book to countless clients who are grieving. One of the most helpful parts of the book is about dispelling the myths about how to grieve and honoring your losses. One loss brings up all the previous losses. They all deserve to be treated with respect.

This is more than a book - it's a program and it's absolutely amazing. A lot of grief material and resources out there perpetuate what I recognize to be unhealthy ways to get through a loss, but this program My wife completed suicide in April of this year and, for as painful as my healing has been, I think this program has been instrumental me healing the cleanest, fastest, and healthiest ways I possibly could have healed. We couldn't hold Angela's funeral service until 3 months after she died, which gave me time to go through this program. I found this so helpful that I purchased 40 of these books and put them on a table as a free resource for those who attended. I've had several people tell me how helpful it's been in their healing and I'm so grateful for this program.

I have gotten a lot out of this book and it's help me. If you are in pain and have taken a hit, a loss, a death, a divorce this is the book for you. It will help you know it is okay to be sad, feel your pain and process your grief. It has taught me how to be there for others, sit with them in their darkness and listen intently as they process. I have shared this book with others.

I was dealing with tremendous trauma from serious loss and cumulative losses throughout my life. This book and the course that goes with it saved me as well as some relationships. It helped to also clear out the deadweight in my life that also needed to go, namely toxic people.

1.0 out of 5 stars no help at all
Reviewed in Germany on June 9, 2019
This book is no help at all. It reads like an operation manual and stays on the surface at all times. Definetely not useful for anymore who is seriously grieving and has more than two working brain cells. What they call "action program" appears to have been compiled on the kitchen table on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Don't buy.
