About the Author

Mary Flint's Red Star trilogy was inspired by her love of reading and her enthusiasm for science fiction. Sixteen-year-old Mary, a year older than Christopher Paolini was when he began writing his first book, Eragon, thought, he did it, I can succeed as well. Mary wanted to make her own world inspired by George Lucas's Star Wars sagas, where he made his own universe with his own planets and cultures. This made her want to create her own universe as well. In addition to Star Wars, she also loves Richard Paul Evans' Michael Vey series, Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series, and Susanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy. Mary writes from her South Texas home in the United States.

Mary Flint, encouraged to try writing by a family member, discovered her love of writing from her life-long love of stories. Inspired by the books and success of teenage author Christopher Paolini, she began writing her first book, Red Star: The Hunter Trials, at the age of fifteen and published it two years later. Water Bird's Shadow is the second book of the thrilling Red Star trilogy, and Mary hopes that readers will enjoy exploring the characters and their worlds as much as she does. She also enjoys interacting with Red Star fans at conventions, book signings, and online. Mary currently writes from her home in South Texas, USA.

I love to read fantasy or sci-fi or both, but I usually know I'm reading. Mary Flint's writes in a way that put me there with the characters, I am in their world not just reading about it.

Red Star was a fast-moving SF book that was hard to put down. Just when you thought you could breathe another plot twist was introduced to keep you wondering what would happen next. The chemistry between the characters builds as you learn more about the world they live in and what they need to do to save their planet.

I orded a new book, and this one while in decent condition, is not a new book. I was very disappointed when I pulled it out if the box to find a DI sticker for $2.00, when I paid almost $10 supposedly a "new book".

Such an interesting plot, with characters that you'll love rooting for. Ms. Flint does a great job of revealing just enough of the big picture to keep you reading "just one more chapter". And what a cliff hanger ending! Book #2, please!

A new world is created masterfully and described in such great detail so that you know exactly where you are. Her characters and social levels of this world are intriguing and relatable to all. Must have the second book!

WOW! Love the world created in this book. The writing Mary created is both easy to follow, imaginative and intelligent. A fan of the Hunger Games and Divergent series, I found this to be right up my alley and I couldn't put it down. Although it takes place in another world, I found the plot lines to be relatable, being at the bottom, you are no one. Being at the top, you always succeed and everyone has had to deal with ghosts of their past. I plan to read the next one asap.

Writing by a young lady that is well beyond her years. I can’t wait to complete the three book series. I hope there are plenty more books in the future for her. The story is filled with intrigue and thrills. So many twists and turns I wondered who was going to win. I was surprised. You will love it.

This is a very intriguing story about another world. The characters and descriptions are very interesting and make you want to know more about what will happen. Reminds me of the Hunger Games in some ways.
