Editorial Reviews

Review

"Swaim masterfully adds layer upon layer of meaning and understanding to his story...Swaim isn't happy to follow a typical story arc, but rather keeps the reader guessing with what will happen next."-San Francisco Book Review

"This book is more than just a vampire story. Swaim has used the vampire/horror genre to create this finely tuned Bildungsroman, allowing us to join Sam on his journey of awakening and self-discovery. But Come What May is also a damn good, complex, and sufficiently creepy vampire story. Swaim's level of writing is rare in the world of self-published novels, and this story largely avoids the clichés that can bog down similar tales. Sam's world...is complex and engaging - a world worth learning more about in future novels."-
Portland Book Review

"Vampire and supernatural books are in demand, however, most have an immature 'Scooby-Doo' like feel about them... This, however, makes use of flashbacks, foreshadowing, and symbolism to provide the reader with an intense, mature read. Forget those vamps that glow in the daylight! This tale of good versus evil is an in depth exploration into human nature."-

An excellent vampire hunter book with some nice new twists. This is book 1 of the 3 in the trilogy. I very much look forward to starting the next book, and losing myself in this world of vampire hunting. I'm glad I decided to get this trilogy, I have a feeling once I'm done reading these books, I'm going to wish they kept going. I feel the characters are believable, and relatable. The different twist on this vampire hunter trilogy works great. There is great loss and suffering many of the characters have endured, just like in real life and it very much effects, future choices they make in their lives.

If you're looking for a great trilogy to read, give this a chance. It really is a great read. Even though it's a trilogy the individual books are not very long. So it's a pretty quick read. I really enjoyed this book a lot. I hope the next 2 books are at least as good as this first one 😁🔰🔝

Come What May is the first book in the series, I had read a couple of books later in the series and wanted to see how it all started. I really love this great vampire series. Wonderful characters, plot, interactions, dialogues, and surprises that come up.

Kevin draws you into the story as if you are Sam. Now that says a lot considering I’m a girlie girl. Unexpected storylines and surprising twists and turns. Everything a book is supposed to do but very rarely does. Best thing since “Supernatural.” I immediately bought books 2 through 5. Thanks to you Mr. Swaim. You are a master story teller. I’m hooked.

I was expecting not to !like this. However, I loved it. The story of the Harlan Family was written in everyday speak and was well thought out. You knew those folks that came to the diner. You see them every day. Sam was a wonderful character to get to know. I will read more.

Well I read it all the way through so that's a plus but the story is dark, very few people survive a vampire attack without either dying or becoming a vampire and those that do, fight the good fight against evil. You wonder how a vampire hunter with a hundred years experience could be so inept when going after evil vampires, it didn't quite ring true and Sam's future seems bleak without love and hope. I don't mind a dark story but I want to feel that good will prevail and this story didn't make me feel that, in fact I felt everything was all a bit hopeless and redundant. Not what I want from a novel. Nevertheless it was reasonably well written and had few editing issues, perhaps in future books the author will introduce a more hopeful outcome for the main characters but I'm not sure if I will buy any more books in this series as it's just a bit too dark for me.

This was an entertaining plot with a good ending. Though it was a little sad. Will have to check if there's a series that continues!

When you read a lot of paranormal/supernatural books, after a while they all become to sound the same. Ho-hum. You can see it all coming. However, Kevin Lee Swaim has taken a genre and created what I thought couldn't be done! His writing is excellent, and it's very hard to find a stopping point! I was fortunate enough to "discover" him when I could read the first two books together, and I could barely wait until the third came out. His characters are real, and while there is violence, it's not violence for violence's sake and not gratuitous at all, just what would be expected in a paranormal book. As a longtime avid reader, I highly recommend Mr. Swaim's books to everyone that likes this genre, or who is willing to explore new genres.

I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve had this series for quite a while now but never got around to reading it. I finally read the first two in the series and have nothing but good to say! It’s a spine-tingling adventure that keeps you bound to its pages. The twists and turns and the fast paced timeline makes it impossible to put down! Kudos to the author on his remarkable story-telling!

I was surprised by this book, such a refreshing Vampire Hunter story.
A well constructed storyline, great characters, very detailed fight scenes, packed with action,as well for the emotional part from the characters, you can feel it.

The story is very well written and I truly have enjoyed the unique storyline, with a strong plot.
I like the writing style from the Author, he really brings this story to life with so many characters, normally I struggle a bit with so many names, but in here in this book I had no problems, with all the characters. I guess it has something to do how he present the characters, that you don't forget them, there all develop flawless with the storyline, no but's.

A really great book!!

A story well told with characters that matter. This isn't a Buffy style story but one that portrays a true horror, the loss of everything held dear. It doesn't pull punches not does it take it easy on your sensibilities but rather shocks at a visceral level. It isn't an easy read because of the story but it is enthralling, roller coaster ride
