- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024Flavor: Cran RaspberryVerified PurchaseUsed this on trip in high altitudes in Peru. I tried to drink 2-3 a day after landing at sea level in Lima, before going to higher altitudes.
All I can say is I had no issues with altitude and I am 60+. Highly recommend. For the price , it is worth the price, even if you are skeptical.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2017Flavor: Cran RaspberryVerified PurchaseI'm skeptical of products like this and maybe I ought to be more skeptical of this one. I don't tend to get AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). But this summer (2017), I hiked the southern portion of the John Muir Trail, which is the highest hiking available in the lower-48 states. Still no altitude sickness.
My son does have a history of altitude sickness, and had to discontinue a hike last year (2016) due to it. The symptoms lasted several days, but seemed to be slightly improved after using Acli-Mate last year (a fellow hiker brought it and we didn't use any until after he felt ill). This year I got some ahead of time. He did have some AMS symptoms again this year, however he hiked to a higher eleveation (~1000'), faster, and from a lower elevation (sea level, non-stop vs. a night at 8,000 ft.), than last year. Though the severity of the acute symptoms was as bad or worse, the duration was much shorter and the recovery much more significant. His second ascent was symptom free.
Is it Acli-Mate or acclimation? Who knows. But considering a ~$30 box kept the two of us moving on our respective hikes, helped us hydrate, and tasted great, it seems like money well spent.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021Flavor: GrapeVerified PurchaseI believe this did help with our altitude adjustment when we were out West. We drank prior to our arrival and during (either after skiing or before we left). My son also got sick the first day and then we started giving him some daily and was fine for the remainder of our trip.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2022Flavor: GrapeVerified PurchaseI have traveled many times over the past 10 years to elevations above 8,000 feet and spent the first 12-18 hours in bed with altitude sickness. It was to the point that I was considering not going on ski trips again. I even tried a prescription from my doctor with side effects almost as bad. I am currently in Beaver Creek and have been able to enjoy every minute of this trip. Start 3 days before with 2 packets and then I increased to 3-4 packets the first few days. I continued taking at night. Set an alarm and drink during the night. Then you can taper off 1-2 after a few days. This has been my experience after multiple trips. I made the mistake in Crested Butte of going to bed and not waking to take this and then spent 18 hours bedridden. This stuff is a miracle for me. Raspberry tastes the best but they don’t seem to be making it now. Grape is good also. I haven’t tried the orange.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2020Flavor: OrangeVerified PurchaseGreat stuff. My kiddo didn’t like the flavor but it was fine for me and I’m the picky one! I’ve suffered from altitude issues forever and my symptoms always start with a headache, bloodshot eyes, Shortness of breath, lack of sleep, and most times will manifest into nausea.
I took it one day before traveling and I should’ve started before that. And every morning when I woke up I would take this and I did not have a headache at all during the day. I found myself needing and using my oxygen boost less. I did not suffer from any nausea. My eyes were unaffected and remained rad. And my sleep was still challenged but I did take a sleeping supplement. I could have ghost this two or three times a day but I was only doing one today because I was primarily focused on my child. Last trip to the mountains he had major issues and had to leave school early one afternoon. But this time he drink it twice a day and only had a slight headache but no other issues. We supplemented ibuprofen for any additional breakthrough headaches for him. I could have dosed this two or three times a day but I was only doing once a day because I was primarily focused on my child. Last trip to the mountains he had major issues and had to leave ski school early one afternoon. But this time he drank it twice a day and only had a slight headache but no other issues. Overall I think the stuff is a knockout! I will certainly have it on hand for every trip to high altitude and recommend it to others.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2023Flavor: OrangeVerified PurchaseI put this in my Camelbak and Contigo water bottles, and the orange coloring stained the straws and mouthpieces on both! They're using beta carotene for coloring, which is not essential to the product's intended use.
It's also "formulated by a naturopath", which, depending on your relationship to science, may not be to your liking. It's vitamin water with 6 grams of sugar... there's nothing in it that treats altitude sickness, unless that sickness is specifically related to dehydration, in which case water with eletrolytes is all you really need. If used as directed, there isn't time for any of the herbal ingredients to be of value, either. This is placebo powder at its finest.
I would recommend Zaca Recovery tablets instead, which have L-Alanyl-L-Glutamine. They're more convenient to take and have the added benefit of actual science behind them. They also won't ruin your water bottles!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2022Flavor: Cran RaspberryVerified PurchaseI like to be prepared as possible when going anywhere. I make little survival kits, based on where we go. These were perfect for helping with the altitude. We’d just pack a few in our backpacks, car and house. At any discomfort or even to get a head start, just pop one open and add to some water. Pretty tasty too. These will be perfect for any trip I believe!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2024Flavor: GrapeVerified PurchaseI took this before hiking in Peru. I didn't have any effects of altitude sickness so it works or altitude doesn't bother me. Not sure but I would definitely use again to be on safe side.
