The Starlit Prince: A Standalone Fantasy Romance (Secrets of the Fae) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 718 ratings

A bride. A curse. A love that will shake a kingdom.

Talia's promise of a happy future is stolen the night her landlord's cruelty shatters her dreams. To save her family from ruin, she will be forced into a marriage with the very man who betrayed her. But just as all hope seems lost, a mysterious stranger offers a surprising bargain: marry him instead, and he'll free her family from the landlord's grasp.

Desperate for a solution, Talia agrees. In a whirlwind, Talia is swept into a marriage with Rafael, a fae who seems determined to remain distant from his bride. As she leaves behind the life she knew, Talia enters a world of magic, deception, and danger, where every truth she uncovers about her husband only deepens the mystery of his intentions. Despite what he did for her, Rafael is no savior—he is a tormented soul, bound to secrets that could cost her everything.

Determined to get to know her elusive fae husband, Talia learns that to get close to him is to flirt with death itself. But the truth is so much more complicated than she ever imagined, and true love isn't something that comes easily—she must fight for it, and risk losing everything.

The Starlit Prince is an immersive fantasy romance inspired by the Spanish fairytale The Lily and the Bear. This no-spice retelling blends Beauty and the Beast vibes with the longing of star-crossed love. Perfect for fans of dark fairytales, complex characters, and hard-won happily ever afters.

I enjoyed this take on the classical story. Loved that the book was clean!! So many books about fae get raunchy and explicit, but this book didn't - which made it a much more enjoyable read. I believed the chemistry and angst between characters. They were likable as well. Nice, easy read. I will read this author again.

What do we love so much about being swept away into a new world? Add in the mysterious and tricky fae along with a marriage bargain and a wicked curse, and you have a recipe for a captivating tale. The horses, the dangerous creatures, the way everything was out to get you, the secrets, and the romance kept the interest high throughout. The scenery was vivid and whimsical. I loved the way the vows were worked into the entire story shaping their perspectives and the outcome. This tale holds some great truths about love, commitment, and what it takes to bear each other's burdens. (No pun intended.) The treacherous journey, the shift, and the vicious fae at the palace made for an exciting ending that was hard to put down. If I had to make any constructive comments, it would be that there could have been a few more details here and there to make everything richer, the side characters backstory, do they go see her parents again, more exploration of the magic of that world, etc. Regardless, this was still an enjoyable tale.

I love all the synchronicity of this tale.
You have to read it though to understand.

This book has some seriously tense moments that reminded me of Sarah J Maas and I wondered if I, the reader, was about to be betrayed. Thankfully no. Just really good writing. Whew.

Wow. I will confess, I read the end to this before I got there because I was on the edge of my seat. But that did not stop me from going back to read every word on the journey to the end. Again, wow. Being unfamiliar with the story “The Lily and the Bear” I had no idea how this was going to go. It was a good read and kept me riveted from beginning to end, even through the pages I had already read.

I feel like the one negative is that we didn’t get to see Talia reunite with her parents or hear anything about them again. This is a standalone, but there are more books coming out in this same world…so I am hoping for some crossover and some closure there.

Romance: a bit more than I would like, but very clean overall. It was more that I didn’t care for a couple of scenes or phrases. Also, however, they are married—and again, there was nothing steamy—and I am happy with this book.

Violence: well, there is quite a bit of fighting. The fae are a vicious people, apparently. I wasn’t overly disturbed by it (positive elements of the story outweigh the violence) but don’t read if you are squeamish at the thought of blood

Once I got into the second half of the book, I couldn't put it down and raced to the end! Lovely story and characters. Highly recommend for any young adult, but also enjoyed it being in my 30s and looking for a mature but closed door/"clean" romance book with action, fighting, and fantasy. I can't wait for more books in this world she's built!

Firstly, the chapter construction and Spanish theme of the human world is glorious! In addition, the dreamscapes and fae worldbuilding were so beautifully described that the reader is fully immersed. The continuity across both worlds of the equine theme is elegant

    Plot
Hours before Talia is set to win a fortune at the midsummer races, everything falls to pieces at her feet. The only way to save her family from utter ruin is to accept a snap deal with a mysterious fae and become his bride

The Starlit Prince is a wonderful reimagining of the Swiss fairytale 'The Bear Prince' with echoes of 'The Beauty and the Beast'
