As someone looking to get into Motorsports I felt that I related well to Bryce on a number of the key points. Such as the wanting to be given just a shot to demonstrate what I can do.
Each point in the book includes personal, relevant stories, that made each “gear shift” that much more practical.
At the end of the book, you close the final page feeling motivated; with a breath of fresh air ready to tackle life and find your next gear.
For myself the biggest eye opener has been the fuel tank anology. When the fuel indicator lights up in my car I perfectly know that I need a gas station within the next 50km and I'll be fine. On the other hand for my body and mental I don't even know how I properly "refuel". Only a couple of days after reading that chapter, a friend spontaneously asked me if I can help him move houses on Saturday 8 a.m. Instead of straight up declining, since I had my companies Christmas party the day before, I asked myself "Can I handle this without being a wreck for the rest of the weekend? And (that's what the book thaugt me) if yes, how?" Had to be at my in-laws on Sunday for lunch so instead of cleaning the appartment in the morning as usual I moved that task to the afternoon and cut some of my gaming time. End of story: I stayed at the party until 3 a.m. (sober as always though), showed up operational enough to the move and caught up on sleep on Sunday without missing lunch.
But that's only one example on how one can use the strategies from Geared For Life. I highly recommend to get a copy and find your gears.
