---|---|---|---|
Always wash hands with soap & water before preparation. |
Pour desired amount of lukewarm liquid (about 100°F) into bottle. Freshly expressed breast milk at body temperature is sufficient. |
Sprinkle in Gelmix following usage recommendations and shake well for about 30 seconds or until powder is completely dissolved. Work quickly to avoid clumps. |
Wait 5-10 minutes until desired consistency is reached. Mix again before feeding. Always test temperature before feeding. |
Which Consistency Should I use?
If thickening is recommended to reduce spit-ups, a slightly thick consistency is usually effective. Start with one scoop (1.2g) per 3-4 oz. of warm milk and increase as needed.
If thickening is recommended due to swallowing difficulties, carefully follow your healthcare provider's instructions on which consistency to safely thicken up to. Usage instructions are designed for use with the IDDSI framework.
Can I Prepare in Advance?
Most liquids can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and rewarmed for feeding. If served cold, the consistency will be thicker. Always follow CDC guidelines on safe handling and storage of breast milk and formula. It is not typically recommend to rewarm breast milk more than once.
Why is there a range in the usage instructions?
There are natural variations between formulas. Breast milk and elemental formulas tend to need more thickener than regular infant formulas to achieve desired consistency.

I did the research and bought some gelmix and it made a huge difference to him. We went without it for a while but we noticed recently that he was refusing bottles and thought it was down to some oral thrush. When his appetite didn't pick back up we tried gelmix again, and his appetite has been great.
Our son is a chonker, and its important to us that he not consume empty calories every time he has a bottle. It works better for us than rice or oatmeal. We read recently theres higher than normal levels of arsenic in rice that affects baby food, so we are happy to keep away from stuff like that as much as we can.
For us, we just need 1 scoop per 6oz. We premix the water in bottles for daycare. We have a baby brezza and use the hottest water setting. We can throw a scoop in the bottle and let it sit for a few minutes before he gets it. It doesnt thicken it massively, just enough to allow him to keep most of his food down.
With daycare we use the water only setting on the brezza. When we make it directly with the water + formula it doesnt thicken it much. When we thicken the water first and then add the formula once it has thickened, it ends up much thicker. I read it's something to do with the proteins in the formula powder. Sometimes the thickened water can be a pain to mix with powder so we managed to find some tiny metal shaker balls on amazon to add to his bottle to help mix it.
I had questions for them about storage of premixed water and reached out to them on facebook for answers. They were super helpful and quick to respond. They also sometimes throw out coupon codes for their website which can make it cheaper to buy direct from them rather than through amazon.
Although the product works and fits our needs, the price sucks. It's too expensive and the packaging is outrageous. You think you're gonna get a decent amount but the tub is 1/2 empty. They just kinda get you by the short ans curlies because theres nothing that works better for babies. So you pay it because you want what's best for them. Just take it out of their college fund. We have bought 12 tubs of this stuff so far. That's about $300 in total.
I bought this out of desperation and it’s been a life saver. She eats perfectly now and keeps everything down. If your baby can’t keep a bottle down, this will 100% help!
