Like Cracks in the Sidewalk Kindle Edition

Obsession
It was a simple assignment. Write an article about Val, the newest DJ on the scene. Behind his decks, he glows. Val doesn’t play music, he shapes it, radiates it. I’m not the only person obsessed with him. And when I save him from an attacker, he rewards me with a kiss.
Addiction
It’s careless, maybe, two men living together in 1995. We’re risking our jobs. But I’m as addicted to Val as he is to the pills and powders he uses to silence his ghosts.
Sanity
Walking away was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but we’d become toxic. My life is good—I have a daughter and a satisfying career. There isn’t time to miss Val, even if he visits my dreams nightly.
Love
It was just a chance meeting in the grocery store. Val looks healthy. Clean. And the old fire flares hot between us. This could be our second chance at love, but are we risking everything we’ve overcome to be together again?

Like Cracks in the Sidewalk is a 78K tale of two bi men in 1995 who are living their lives day to day, riding the wave until it nearly swamps them. Content warnings are listed at the beginning of the book. Mental health, folks!

Sadie Jay grew up in a small town in Southern Illinois but was always more interested in the rows of books at the library then the rows of corn filling the fields around her. At the age of 18 one of her goals was to write the Great American Novel, but as so often happens, that dream went by the wayside and was replaced by a husband, a couple of kids, a small menagerie of pets, and an unplanned career as a grocer. The kids are grown, the menagerie is now limited to a handful of cats, and she’s still a grocer—who likes to write stories about relationships and happy endings. They may not be Great American Novels, but Sadie hopes they bring at least a few people joy.

This has a literary feel to it with beautiful descriptions that evoke mood well. The craftwork is excellent with vivid characters and realistic dialogue and situations

Not long into this I found myself thinking yep, this book is supposed to be written starting in March 1994 okay cool I was in high school then. Well, if you’re going to write and insert pop culture references make sure you aren’t just inserting a song, album or whatever of the year without knowing when it came out during that time. So nope not going to finish. Too bad I love books dated in the 90’s.
