On the Line: Milwaukee Dragons Series, Book 1
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
Is this man: A) a super-hot NFL player, B) the guy you’re sexting, or C) your new boss?
If you’re Carrie Herron, the answer is: D) all of the above. First, Carrie starts exchanging steamy text messages with the sexy single dad she meets in line at the grocery store. Then she lands a job as the live-in nanny for the daughter of the Milwaukee Dragons’ newest star. With any luck, she’ll be back on her financial feet before the next cosplay convention rolls around. But when Carrie shows up for work and realizes that her new boss is the guilty pleasure in her phone, she has no choice but to try to keep things professional. Oh, how would Poison Ivy handle a temptation like Seth Chamberlain?
After getting traded from Houston to Milwaukee, Seth’s having a tough time keeping his head in the game, let alone making sure that his daughter is fitting in. So if the only nanny that Madison will tolerate is a grown woman who likes comic books even more than she does...well, so be it. Too bad the nanny is also the gorgeous redhead Seth’s been flirting with all this time. But with Carrie’s knowing glances and kissable lips driving him wild, Seth must decide whether he’s ready to put everything on the line.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2018This one went above and beyond my expectations. I loved Carrie, Seth and Maddie. My only tiny complaint is I would have liked to see more of them interacting with their friends and family, as well as more of an epilogue. But I think that just speaks to how much I loved the story and the characters. Lots of humor, heart and heat but low on angst—exactly how I like my contemporaries.
It’s always nice to find a new romance author to add to my must-read list, and I’m excited to see the next book is about Marcus and maybe an interracial romance?
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2018A good sports love story with a father that truly cares about his daughter. There is humor and love and it is just a good all around good love story.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2018This book started out with a fun premise - an out-of-work teacher gets a job as nanny for a hunky NFL player who is just trying to do his best with his 12-year-old daughter. The daughter is unhappy about having been moved away to Milwaukee because her dad got traded. But, as luck would have it, the new nanny shares her interest in comics and so they bond and things start getting better except for the pesky detail that Carrie is deeply attracted to her boss, Seth Chamberlain. He’s also attracted to her, but they agree that they have to ignore their mutual attraction because he’s her boss and he doesn’t want to wreck a good situation that is helping his daughter. I liked that she was a bit nerdy and had this connection with the daughter.
I liked the set-up, but then the book spent a hefty portion of its time with Carrie and Seth desiring each other, making out, then stopping. Or finally giving in, but having to hide it. The plot and characters took a back seat to their sexual longing and the writing went downhill.
As a teacher, I also didn’t buy the premise that a popular teacher with six years experience teaching middle-school science couldn’t find a teaching job in a city the size of Milwaukee. Science teachers are hard to find and she would have been snapped up very quickly. I also didn’t buy that the sister of a college football player who is now a professional scout for the team would be so clueless about the sport and not seem to know the most basic elements of the game.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from the author; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2018Comics, who can go wrong with the characters. Carrie shows her character poison ivy is definitely a part of her. Strong, sexy, passionate. Seth the football hero has an inner cpmic hero himself. He is a caring, wonderful father. His love for his amazing daughter Maddy shows in all he does.
Loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2018This book had everything going for it and it was an easy read to top it off! The characters were very likable and the teen was a typical teen with all the angst! Easy, light reading make this a great before bed book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2018The main characters were easy to like and their story was believable. A fun read with romance and heat for anyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2018When Carrie Herron bumps into a sexy, single dad in the grocery store and he comes to her aid, and then moments later she has the chance to reciprocate she thinks she has hit the dating jackpot, so she gives him her number and crosses her fingers he'll call. But her excitement about a possible date deflates rather quickly when she finds out she is being kicked out of her home, due to it being sold, now not only is she out of job, but a home too. So, she turns to her brother in hopes he can give her a temporary landing spot, and he offers her a deal she just can't pass up... his buddy needs a live-in nanny as soon as possible. It seems like it's the answers to all her prayers, until she shows up on their doorstep!
Seth Chamberlain has just been transferred to Milwaukee, and hasn't had much time to find someone to look after his daughter while he is on the road during football season, he has always depended on his family before now, but their miles away and of no help now. So, he turns to his old college buddy in hopes that he might know someone trustworthy and reliable, and it just so happens he has the perfect person for the job, his sister. Seth doesn't remember much about her, but the moment she shows up on his doorstep he has a dire need to get to know every inch of her... but mixing business with pleasure would be wrong on so many levels!
This first time read had me had me nodding in agreeance a time or two, giggling a time or two, and swooning a whole heck of a lot!!! I thoroughly enjoyed diving between the pages of this one, I am a sports romance fanatic so it spoke to me on that level, I have a spirited tween daughter so it resonated a little there too, and of course the hunky football star in the story had me thinking of my favorite player in Wisconsin.... so that alone is a win in my book! Not to mention it put a good squeeze on my heart and stirred up some feels, there was just so much to like about this one, the characters were unique and hard no to love, and the story line was well crafted. I highly recommend you take a chance on this one, Seth is sure to have you blushing throughout!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice romance for someone into American Football.
Didn’t mind the writing or story. But was very dragged out. A few times I though something would be talked about, then skips a few weeks. And after such a long story, suddenly together and ends abruptly. Wasn’t bad, but could have been slightly shorter with a nicer finish. Also the idea of agonizing over calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend, when the MC’s are 30ish just made me laugh. Nice cheap read. Hopefully the author improves, as I do see potential.
