The story of Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi, a woman singled out at the age of twenty-one, to receive revelations from Our Lord and the Blessed Mother, which continued until her death. In her visions she foresaw much of the political turmoil that took place during her life most significantly the French Revolution and subsequent weakening of the Church's temporal authority. She also read the state of souls, both living and dead. Despite these miraculous gifts, she was content to fulfill her station in life as the wife of a poor serving-man and the mother of seven children. Wife, Mother and Mystic chronicles the events of an extraordinary life and yet, the great lesson of this biography is not found in the extraordinary, but in this modest woman's constant, hidden "striving after holiness" in her most ordinary tasks.

About the Author

The Rev. Father Albert Bessieres, S.J., was a Jesuit priest and author of the twentieth century. His Wife, Mother and Mystic: Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi records the various events of the titular holy woman's extraordinary and miraculous life, in an edition translated by the Rev. Stephen Rigby. Father Bessieres' work, edited by Douglas Newton, was originally published by Sands & Company, London, in 1952. It has since been reprinted several times by TAN, beginning in 1970, with the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur.

Well I just finished this amazing book. It is a inspirational book on a humble, beautiful woman!!! Her life is exemplary. The "writing" of this particular telling, was a little challenging, but none the less....she is forever now an example for me to live, give, every moment to the Lord. (The book is filled with endless historical details, which do pertain to her life in France during its upheaval. Just many "details" weren't explained and a little confusing). That being said, this book will change your way of being in the world!!!

If more women today followed the example of Blessed Anna Maria Taigi there would be less separations between couples. A great read for those who are struggling with difficult husbands, marriages. At the same time, if more husbands humbly acknowledged the virtues of their wives like the husband of Blessed Anna Maria did, less women today would be moved to part ways with their husbands.

Blessed Anna Marie Taigi was a very pious & loving woman. This book lets you know of her many attributes. She kept her husband's temper pretty much in check. She made sure her children were brought up in religion. Ordinary people, royalty, popes & other clerical persons believed in her mystical prophesies. She had her battles with the devil like the Cure D'Ars. Excellent book for persons interested in learning about our many great religious wonders!

Great books, incredible woman for her time. I am only half way through it but from what I've read already, I highly recommend it. It is easy to read and it keeps your attention. Suprised she is not a saint yet!

This book is very well written, covering all the aspects of her domestic life, her spirituality, and a borrows freely from the hearings about her virtues. I wish it had more about her prophecies of the future and her spiritual gifts, which were astounding.

Wonderful book. It talks about the main highlights of her life and then delves into the tiny intimate details that made her story truly remarkable. An easy read with anecdotes about her personal life and personality which we can all relate to and enjoy.

For the blessed Anna Maria Taigi, there were no secrets; there was before her a "golden globe which became a sun of matchless light; in this all things were revealed to her". This miraculous "sun" was with her for forty-seven years, until her death at age sixty-eight. People of all strata of society came to her for advice and healing, from the poverty stricken, to nobility, to the leaders of the church.

She was a humble woman born in Sienna in 1769 "to a world in chaos". During her lifetime, Europe was in a state of constant upheaval, the church under siege, with some of the events during her lifetime being the French Revolution, Rome under oppressive French Directoire, and the imprisonment of Pope Pius VI.

Anna Maria led an austere, simple life, with her seven children and husband Domenico, whose boisterous temperament contrasted with hers, and who was a servant at the Chigi palace. Domenico, as well as her daughter Sophie, are quoted extensively from their depositions after her death in this book.

She renounced the ways of the world, and searched out the will of the Lord, and followed the advice to "always pull against the stream and never cease to resist one's own will".

Her visions covered a wide span of time (she saw "black airships traversing the skies") though the book does not dwell on her future revelations, but mostly describes her day to day life, and how she helped the many who would ask for her healing and help. The book also has little insights into her personality, as when a domestic broke a bottle, Anna Maria consoled her by saying "It is nothing. We must, after all, feed the crockery-makers".

Translated from the French, the book is also an interesting glimpse into life during a turbulent era, and important time in the history of the Catholic Church.

I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a better understanding of the humility of God. It is not about religion but about a deep love and commitment to God.

I got this book in the recycling center I had never heard of Blessed Anna Marie Taigi before ,the book was brilliant reading of such a holy woman who lived life ordinary in marriage with her husband Domenico (the man who after God had the most to do with making Anna-Marie a saint )and children Blessed Anna -Marie was a model of wives doing her ordinary daily duties with love and devotion rearing her children with the love of God in their hearts and practised self renunciation with a smile and still tongue .Besides her family life God gave her a mission in life to help him of which he spoke to her and guided her to convert sinners to console people of all sorts and conditions help priests also that she would also meet with false and treacherous people some would scorn her and she would be submitted to ridicule those who listened to her would be granted signal graces and she would endure many situations for the love of Himself Jesus .This humble woman lived that mission and Princes of the Church, Kings, Queens, Popes and saints came to her to teach them the secrets of Heaven a book that I will treasure and am sure other readers will to.Lovely read with inspiration for our world of today .
