"Former ICE Special Agent Victor Avila's story of survival and courage is a harrowing must read. His dedication to obtaining justice for his partner, Jaime Zapata, who was murdered just inches away while on assignment in Mexico, is honorable and a reflection of his character. The government coverup of what happened and their retaliation against him for telling the truth is unforgivable. You won't be able to put this book down." -Katie Pavlich, Townhall Editor, Fox News contributor and Best-selling author Agent Under Fire: A Murder and a Manifesto is a true story of unprecedented corruption, international intrigue, human trafficking, money laundering, drug-running, mass murders, and government evasion. Chalk full of page-turning stories and revelatory insights into Mexico's criminal underworld, this book moves beyond the everyday true crime memoir and delves into the larger question of what it means for a family man to put his life on the line every day to topple some of the cruelest criminal organizations known to mankind. The book also serves as a manifesto, exploring solutions to misguided immigration policies and offering a unique perspective on what it will take to control our southern border and protect vulnerable American families. Victor Avila is a retired Supervisory Special Agent with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). While on assignment in Mexico, Special Agent Avila suffered multiple gunshot wounds and survived a violent ambush by the Los Zetas drug cartel. Special Agent Jaime Zapata was killed. Mr. Avila has been recognized for Excellence in Law Enforcement by the ICE Hispanic Agents Association; and has received The Director's Award for Operation in Plain Sight in Mexico; Homeland Security Investigations Excellence in Public Service Award; The Valor Award by the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA); and many other awards and honors. He is an advocate for border security, immigration reform, human trafficking awareness and the protection of our sovereignty - and has been featuredon FoxNews, i24News, Univision, OANN and various Radio and Podcast interviews.

I bought this book after listening to Victor's story first hand at a cartel conference in San Antonio. What an amazing read. It's appalling the way the DEA and Federal Government treated Victor after his ordeal. Buy this book and support a true American Patriot.

I got 2 of these one for my aunt and 1 for my father because they love this sort of Tail. And I read somewhere that it's best to read a book before you give it and of course I had to read it and I couldn't put it down and it's not a story I would ever have picked up other than having to give it to 2 people I love and I didn't want to give something I didn't like. My dad called today and said he really appreciated it and hes 2/3 through it and loves it can't hardly put it down so I would say it's a great book auntie hasn't gotten hers yet I'll let you know how she likes it.

Victor Avila's story is riveting...the first pages captured me like a fast paced thriller novel, but knowing it was a true story was so very enlightening. Anyone with an interest in bringing human trafficking and slavery to an end should read this book. As well, anyone who professes to care about injustice should read this book. This book was very telling of the crimes taking place within our U.S. borders - my heart ached for the trafficked humans used by the cartels. The mass graves unearthed, the butchering...it is haunting. I believe there is more to Victor's story yet to be revealed...such as why he was really sent out on Hwy 57 that fateful day. Time will tell...

Excellent book Victor. All should read this to get an insight, that's from one of the field agents who has been there and done that. One of the better parts of this book is what is actually happening on our borders with the Drugs, Cartels and Illegal Alien war by someone that worked it; and not some biased MSS or "upper management" REMF.
Your account of the ambush was intense and as real as you can get.
How management treated you is a disgrace.

Very good account of the tragic death of a US agent. The only negative reviews are that the Author imposed his personal political views and policy recommendations at the end of the book. He also held back any inside information regarding internal investigations against the leaders and supervisors of this fiasco government operations. The author also failed to fully identify all the managers by name involved in this tragedy.

I was spellbound from the first page. Victor Avila’s story is tragic and amazing. But he doesn’t stop at telling his personal story; he explains what is really happening at our border. He even has ideas how to fix the problem. Our government should take note of his expertise! Victor Avila is a true patriot in every sense. We are blessed by his many years of stellar service to this country.

An incredible story of two heroes and the tragic event that changed their lives forever. Victor’s story will take through every emotion as you turn each page. I felt proud, then scared, then the sadness quickly turned into anger due to what he has endured. A true hero’s story and a fascinating story of courage, survival and finding the strength to shine again. Absolutely great book. Can’t wait for Victor Avila’s next book!
