Authorized Infinite Banking Practitioner, Coach, Author, Podcast Host, Business Owner, Real Estate Investor, Father, Husband, and all-around nice guy
Richard Canfield has been passionate about wealth-building from an early age. Even at an early age, Richard was known as “The bank” as he always had cash on hand and would lend it to family members from time to time. He worked tirelessly afternoons and evenings for the family business while maintaining honours grades in high school.
In early 1994 at age 13, Richard became part owner with his family of the first rental property in Camrose, Alberta. Without proper coaching, they experienced most of the tenant stories you hear about over the next six years. Yet, despite those challenges, he forged ahead, buying his second rental property at age 18.
In 1999, he entered the electrical trade and quickly established his reputation as the young man who could be counted on to take full responsibility for any project and deliver outstanding results every time. Building and fostering strong relationships along the way.
Shortly after his 22nd birthday, he because a Journeyman Electrician and began leading his own crews. Meanwhile, he been building skills through practical education in real estate investing, having handled the financing and cash flow of multiple properties in his family’s portfolio in addition to his ventures. All while working full-time as an Electrician.
At age 27 he earned a healthy six figures contracting for an oil sands giant in Ft. McMurry, Alberta. When he decided to leave it all and venture into business for himself as a Licensed Realtor in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Then it was spring of 2009 when his friend and now business partner Jayson Lowe suggested he read R. Nelson Nash’s bestselling book Becoming Your Own Banker.
“I was angry it had taken me so long to find this information that I knew would change my financial life forever. How was it possible that — after all the money I had spent on my personal and financial education, not to mention the time spent meeting “Financial Gurus” all over North America — no one had told me the powerful information in R. Nelson Nash’s Book!?” – Richard
No stranger to hard work, Richard dove headfirst into mastering The Infinite Banking Concept® optimizing it for Canadians, and teaching people who were tired of not having control over their financial destiny.
As a proven entrepreneur and a recognized authority on The Infinite Banking Concept in Canada, Richard is filled with desire to significantly improve many people’s lives. He is an Authorized Infinite Banking Practitioner by the Nelson Nash Institute® since the program was launched and is the 11th person to receive this authorization in the world. Richard distinguished himself as one of R. Nelson Nash’s star students. Take it from Nelson Nash himself:
“Anyone learning the secrets of Infinite Banking from Richard Canfield is in very good hands. Richard understands this system as well as or better than anyone I’ve ever taught. And just as importantly, he’s a genius at teaching it to others. The chance to learn from Richard is a chance to secure your family’s prosperity forever… don’t let it pass you by.”
In 2017, Richard and Jayson Lowe spearheaded a passion project to capture the essence of R. Nelson Nash’s life and experience as a game changing visionary of the financial world. This led to the creation of The Documentary film This is Nelson Nash: The Creator of The Infinite Banking Concept which has over 220,000 views on YouTube. Then in March 2021 they launched a celebration of life project with powerful and emotional interviews and fond memories of the Late Nelson Nash called Day of Nelson (dayofnelson.com) available to the general public. A place when people from all over the world can share their stories, images and comments on how one man inspired them to live a peaceful stress-free way of life of financial control.
In February of 2020 Richard and Jayson officially launched the podcast Wealth Without Bay Street to accelerate the financial independence of Canadians using the principles they leaned from Nelson. They release a combination of weekly episodes and Live shows interviewing successful entrepreneurs, coaches, real estate investors and much more. With over 400,000 combined YouTube views and podcast downloads as of April 2023 their reach is growing. In September 2022 they launched their book series with their first book:
Canadians Guide to Wealth Building Without Risk, The Process of Becoming Your Own Banker
Then in December 2023 they launched book 2:
Cash Follows The Leader, Uninterrupted Daily Growth with High Cash Value Life Insurance

- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2024Don’t Spread the Wealth: How to Leverage the Family Banking System to Own All the Gold, Make the Rules, and Enjoy Generational Riches by Jayson Lowe and Rich Canfield is a great book for anyone who is looking to create generational wealth that will last far into the future. The authors make a compelling case for why new ways of thinking about wealth need to be used. Just because something worked in the past does not mean it still works today. Even if it still works, is it as effective and beneficial as new ways of creating wealth? The book offers great examples of how to do this along with examples of why doing things the way they were always done can have terrible consequences down the road. I found the book to be very beneficial, and it is an easy read as well. There is not much technical jargon to slow the reader and the topics are explained well enough that almost anyone can pick it up and start implementing the ideas.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2024When reading books about family financial stability, you often run into advice on whether to invest in life insurance, CDs, bitcoin, stocks, bonds, or real estate. This book addresses managing your investments with your family's financial well-being in mind. This is an excellent book for both young people who are working at their first job or grandparents who are considering how to secure their descendants future. When a family manages to accumulate enough fluid assets to act as their own bank, they can make loans to family members. These loans should act in the same way as bank loans -- they include an interest charge, and they require regular payments. The big difference is that this money is paid into an escrow account held for this purpose. Instead of paying an unaffiliated lender, the money and the interest goes back into the family financial pool where it is then ready to take on the next vehicle or home purchase, or the next medicatl emergency. `
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2024Finance is one of those topics that are just amazing to know about. I honestly think it is crucial for a good life standard. It’s crazy how much your life can change if you know how to handle money. I am very thankful for this book. Especially about the info regarding generational wealth. I wish my parents had read about this before. You can do your family and future generations a huge favor for sure. It is all explained in a structured and clear manner. So, you can relax because you don’t need to be an expert when it comes to this topic. I didn’t have a clue before but now, I feel like I learned a whole lot.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2024I grew up in a family where we mostly lived hand-to-mouth (or paycheck to paycheck). In fact, it wasn’t until I was on my own (late teens) when I realized that checking accounts shouldn’t ever be in the red. I’d received zero instruction/advice from my parents and once my father passed, there was considerable struggle because the concepts of financial planning and just saving in general were foreign to both parents and it took years to dig out of that mess. And unless you’re more than financially secure—well, even if you are—no one enjoys having to give up some of our hard-earned money to banks/taxes/etc. This book stresses the importance of “generational wealth” and that we should look forward at least three generations and that makes considerable sense. Using a mix of real-life cases with tangible advice, the authors give insight into ways to finance basic needs (business/personal) without borrowing from a bank; how to get started, and how to develop and transfer your wealth mentality. Broken out in to three parts: The Why, The What, and The How, the content is relatively easy to follow and I did like the concepts. Whether it will work for my family, long-term, remains to be seen, but I am hopeful.
