About the Author

When Jordan Robertson’s husband passed away from brain cancer at age 37 in 2016, leaving their four young children fatherless, Jordan and her children received over a dozen picture books on grief as gifts from friends. These books were helpful tools to help her children process their pain, but Jordan couldn’t help but notice none of them pointed to the source of true peace—Jesus Christ. Jordan wrote this book in an attempt to fix that. Jordan is an applicant to the PhD program in counseling psychology at BYU and has worked with Dr. Melissa Heath on a research project for children’s grief. In Jordan’s spare time, she is a hospice volunteer. She frequently works with bereavement groups.

Brenna Vaughan loved creating since she was able to hold a crayon. Her love of art and books led her to get a BFA in illustration from Memphis College of Art. Now, she fills as much time as possible illustrating stories for young people. Brenna’s work is a blend of digital and traditional media that combines watercolor, ink, and acrylic with digital techniques. She lives in the St. Louis area with her two children.

I bought this for my kids to help them cope with the loss of their uncle, but truthfully it has helped me just as much. It addresses the feelings that come with grief and doesn’t minimize them, but shows how Jesus felt those same feelings, and how we can receive comfort and hope through Him. I have since gifted several copies of this book to others experiencing grief because of the comfort it has brought me.

I feel the truth in these simple but critically important ways that children in grief can find connection to Jesus. What a gift to teach them, when they feel most vulnerable, that they are not alone and there is hope.

Excellent book helping children understand that Jesus knows and has felt their grief. I love the Bible references and spiritual take on helping kids through loss.

This book brought me immense peace after I lost my brother. Since then, I've shared it with others, witnessing its ability to uplift spirits and guide individuals through the complex feelings of grief. The message that one is never alone, even in the most profound moments of grief, is a powerful takeaway from this book.

'Because of Jesus' approaches the complexity of emotions and the challenging questions that arise from loss with a simplicity that speaks to children, yet it also carries a depth that comforts adults grappling with those very same feelings. Its ability to articulate complex emotions in an accessible manner makes it a valuable resource for anyone on the journey of grief.

This book accesses spiritual support to help children cope with their grief following the death of a loved one. Because so few children's books include spiritual support, this book is unique and greatly needed. I liked the structure of the book that included scriptures about Jesus and how Jesus understands our grief. The book is written in very basic language for children, yet adults will also benefit when reading the quoted scriptures that accompany the text. The pictures include a variety of children and demonstrate a variety of emotions that accompany grief. The book offers hope and reassurance. I highly recommend this book for Christian families who seek comfort following the death of a loved one. I have purchased this book for several grieving families with young children.

This is my favorite book on grief. The simple, profound truths of Jesus Christ and the peace He offers are soothing to children and adults alike. Jordan writes beautifully from her own personal experience, and the illustrations capture the emotion of this sensitive topic. A perfect gift for anyone struggling with loss.

This book is so helpful to children who are grieving. The most helpful thing for anyone going through loss and grief is finding they are not alone. In this book, the author explores ways that Jesus has experienced the same things we experience that are part of grieving. Knowing Jesus has felt what we feel gives us strength to keep going. I highly recommend this book.

This book is so helpful explaining how Jesus can comfort us after the death of a loved one. It is written for children but is comforting for readers of any age. I love how it explains how Jesus can comfort us at any stage of grief and have given this book to children and adults of any age after the death of someone they love.
