Assembly x64 Programming in easy steps shows how to write code to create your own computer programs. It contains separate chapters demonstrating how to store and manipulate data in 64-bit registers, how to control program flow, and how to create reusable blocks of code in program functions. It includes demonstrations of parallel processing with 128-bit Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) and 256-bit Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX).

Assembly x64 Programming in easy steps has an easy-to-follow style that will appeal to anyone who wants to begin programming in modern x64 Assembly language on Windows. The code in the listed steps within the book is color-coded, making it easier for beginners to grasp. There are complete step-by-step example programs that demonstrate each aspect of coding, together with screenshots that illustrate the actual output when each program is executed.

Really excellent book. I have the Kindle and Paper versions. Paper is very high quality paper and color. Kindle is formatted perfectly, no problem with anything. Fantastic introduction to asm in general and masm in specific. Uses Visual Studio and it all works. Set up was 100% correct and worked. Guides you through example based learning with very smart mini chapters. I really like this book and the author's style. Money well spent for me. I am writing MASM very quickly that works and I can now understand the output of C and C++ compilation (review asm output). I also can apply SIMD and AVX operations. Thanks you to the author, publisher, and Amazon for making this possible.

I was looking for an introduction to X64 Assembly Language and this was a very good introduction. It covered quite a bit of material in simple terms - including more advanced topics like SIMD floating point instructions.

This book is good at describing what to do and when

I heard this was a good book for absolute beginners to assembly programming - I am an absolute beginner in assembly and the price was reasonable so I picked up a copy. I am pleased with the quality of the information, and the layout of the book. It does a good job explaining fundamental concepts to its intended audience and it uses Intel syntax which is easier to follow as a beginner than AT&T syntax.

However, I should have done some more research before purchasing this book as I didn't realize MASM is Microsoft's Macro Assembler, which is commercial proprietary software that only works on Windows. I don't want to criticize Microsoft as a company nor am I a fan of Richard Stallman but I genuinely dislike Windows as an operating system. I switched to Linux several years ago, and besides being free and more performant (and private, and secure, and etc.) it is far more functional and thus is infinitely superior to Windows in my opinion. I can never go back to using Windows. I quickly realized in the first chapter that this book is intended only for Windows users and thus I was quite disappointed. I understand there are online compilers allowing you to write in a variety of assemblers, but the author devotes an entire chapter to configuring your Windows OS to get ready for MASM programming. The author could have reached a broader audience, even using Windows for all the examples in the book as his preferred OS, if he had chosen a cross-platform assembler that works on a variety of operating systems of which there are apparently several to choose from such as FASM, JWASM, NASM, and gas.

This book is for beginners, presenting information in an easy-to-understand format. It's helpful for those looking to understand assembly.

Many of the example programs in this book have errors that make them unusable. In many instances, the reader can figure out what is wrong - especially if the reader has previous assembly language experience. In other instances, the errors are completely confusing. The downloadable code seems to have those errors corrected.

Some of the assembly instructions (opcodes) are not correctly explained. I needed to do web searches to find understandable and correct documentation.
