High quality product but check gen power inlet wiring!

High quality product but check gen power inlet wiring!
This is a high quality product. The cabinet is heavy steel with a durable looking finish. Installation was not so easy for me. It comes with a short piece of 1" plastic conduit and two straight fittings. The wire bundle just barely fits into this conduit size which besides making installation difficult may be a NEC violation. I upgraded to 1-1/4" conduit as I required a tight 90 degree bend. Enlarging the 1" knockout was tedious with a Dremel grinder (protect the interior from metal bits if you do this!). When I started the wiring, two of the wires fell out of the generator inlet connector! The wires had been inserted on the wrong side of the wire clamp! I checked out the rest of the wiring and it was fine. The wiring procedure should be fairly simple for those with some experience working in breaker panels. I did acquire a required permit for this DIY job. I upgraded the first two breakers to 30A. The panel worked as expected. The illustration on Amazon shows what looks like a 30A generator plug (4 prongs); it is wrong. See my photo of the 50A plug supplied. I used a Generac 6389 50A cable and it worked well after bending the plug prongs slightly.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality

Great quality, simple to install, you just need to be patient running all the wires through the conduit. The instructions are through and helped clear up any issues I had. Some breakers were swapped to hell me wire up my 240v AC system. The included watt meters help you balance the load and monitor power consumption without an amp meter or taking off the panel. It’s really helpful if you want to test your system with a borrowed generator before you buy your own, like I did.
This is a great alternative to a whole house switch, as I can see the power turn on the circuits I didn’t wire to this sub panel and there’s no worry about back feeding or electrical safety when I need to use the generator.
