I cannot say enough about the transformational content of this book. Simply written, it calls us as individuals to face profoundly the reality we have chosen to espouse in our lives. Dorothea Brande inspires you to question who you are and where you are truly going, and why you were put on this earth to begin with. This book, a classic for good reason, and hard to come by, is a must read for anyone who wishes to glimpse and eventually reach their true and full potential. This is not rocket science but the material presented is just the kick in the butt most of us can benefit from in facing those things which are keeping us from our goals and dreams. It greatly helps that this book was written in a time when people still understood and appreciated tradition, protocol, and standards of behavior - expecting such behavior from themselves and others. It serves today as a "wake up" call to return to the basics of just LIVING! - instead of trying to please everyone around us (to be seen as "cool") or finding excuses for why we are the way we are and simply settling. This is a short easy read with the maximum amount of impact; a book that can be consulted over and over again in years to come. Thank you to the author for writing this book (she wrote it out of frustration in her own life in her late 30's! so there is time for all of us who wish to change and "Wake Up and Live").

I stumbled upon this book while listening to a recording on YouTube of Earl Nightingale, a motivational speaker from the 40's and 50's. A Napolean Hill of his day. Nightingale alluded briefly to Wake Up and Live as a recommended book. On a hunch, I looked into it and found it as a free PDF. I read it and found a tip that I feel is a real life changing philosophy. The author, Dorothea Brande, suggests that in order to cut through anxiety and procrastination they need to go beyond a simple positive affirmation. That what is more powerful is to remind oneself to "act as if you cannot fail". I realize this sounds too simple, but it is entirely powerful. Read the book to find out why. I sent a copy to my Aunt and Mom.

Some good advice but very dated. Very slow start. Similar to many other motivational books of its era but not as well written. Lots of nameless examples which I believe we're totally fabricated. Like Norman Vincent Peake and Jim Rohn but not as good. However, for the kindle price, worth a read.

I didn't expect to get much from this book. I do not like self-help/improvement books in general as I feel our world is filled with too much mindless useless advice. This book was very decisive and clear without boasting or overly chastising. I bought it based on a passing recommendation from a friend who spoke highly of it and because the author's book on writing is one of my favorite. There was a lot of good concrete advice in this book and the author does not waste time with too much example or explanation. Neither, however, do you feel left in the air either. It is all clear and by the end you know what to do. Really, a great book.

When I read "Think and Grow Rich" this book "Wake Up and Live" was mentioned in it. Is it therefore a book which predates "Think and Grow Rich". What is interesting in it that it is written along the same lines. It is a little book which you can read on one sitting. It is so interesting that it is a high probability that you will finish it on this one sitting. Remember, this book had been written long before an avalanche of so called self-help books. It doesn't make any difference. You probably will get from this book more than Dorothea Brande's generation, because there is more known information on the subject. Definitely worth reading more than once.

I take up this book nearly every day. I read in around 3 to 4 days. Love some of the wit Dorothea wrote it the book sometimes. But, most importantly, she is straight to the point. Some areas, were a little hazy, but in most cases, a very good guide.
Had problems with the initial postage by the Seller, but once I had it, it was worth the wait. Love the book, love the words
