BANNED FOR A DECADE!
The BBC gives over a whole evening to an 'investigation into the supernatural'. Four respected presenters and a camera crew attempt to discover the truth behind 'The most haunted house in Britain', expecting a light-hearted scare or two and probably the uncovering of a hoax. They think they are in control of the situation. They think they are safe. The viewers settle down and decide to watch 'for a laugh'. Ninety minutes later the BBC, and the country, was changed, and the consequences are still felt today.

As many have said, it definitely blurs the lines between fact and fiction. This is one of those films where you should keep an eye on what's going on in the background as there are some freaky glimpses of ghosts, some obvious and some subtle.
The whole presentation came off as very believable and I can just imagine how the original audience in the early 90s totally flipped out seeing actual news reporters get in over their heads!

A mother and her children are being haunted. A show called "Ghostwatch" enters their house to study the paranormal activity.
First, though the edition pictured here is British, the DVD is region free. So if your player or computer isn't region-free, you can still play it. (Hacking most players to be region free is easy. Ask Mr Google to show you how.)
Second, the rating is 12+, and deservedly so. Despite its dopey title, Ghostwatch is serious nightmare fuel and absolutely not for children, even though there are children in the cast. There are allusions to animal mutilation, mutilation by animals, and a hardcore pedophile who met an awful end. The children are not unscathed by the experience. The sound of screaming cats is heard several times. On the other hand, Ghostwatch does not show explicit gore. Use your best judgment for older kids and yourself. For me, watching it during the day would have been a better choice, since I am a massive weenie.

The dvd was delivered in a decent time frame, it came from the U.K. It was packaged well and in excellent condition.
Update. I went to watch the dvd a second time but it would not play in any of my multi region players. Sadly the 30 day return time had passed.
I clearly remember that sugar-filled Halloween night in 1992. I recall how we raced home to watch what was being touted as one of the TV events of the year: A live investigation in an actual haunted house. At 8 years old, my interest in the paranormal was all-consuming and it was the age in which I began writing my own tales of dread.
Even though it was actually billed as a drama at the beginning of the show (part of the Screen One productions for the BBC), most people I knew actually missed that part. So, we were watching what we thought was a live broadcast. The use of popular kids TV presenters, who we all saw every Saturday morning over our bowl of cereal, compounded the fact that it all seemed real.
About half an hour into this show, my brother (3 years older) became terrified and burst into tears - this I remember clearly. I then followed suit when I saw a ghost in front of the little girls' bedroom curtains.
My parents came into the room and switched the TV over, but every 5 minutes I would switch it back and become even more terrified. It wasn't until the show appeared on YouTube in full, about 10 years ago, that I watched the whole thing through. The YouTube upload was obviously taken down.
This show became notorious in the days and weeks that followed its broadcast. Most of the kids in my school watched it and were similarly terrified. It was actually banned from being shown again on the BBC due to the psychological effects on some viewers.
Ghostwatch does a great job in projecting an air of menace and fear. It builds the suspense perfectly over the course of the running time and then lets all hell break loose towards the end. It is 28 years old, so shows some telling signs of age, but I still found it unsettling to watch. Some of the acting goes amiss at certain points, which nobody would get away with these days. For the most part it is fine, though.
It is easy to see how this show may have inspired shows like Most Haunted and other paranormal investigation series'. I would even go as far as saying that The Blair Witch Project may have been partially inspired by this.
Re-watching this was like rediscovering a dusty old family heirloom, one which has controversial origins, but is ultimately unique.
