- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2022There's a fine line when it comes to sustaining my interest in discussions of film, especially horror movies. I'm not into dog piles over guts and gore or plot recaps with nods and bro high-fives. But I also tire of overly academic writing, with the elongating defining of terms, over bloated diction, etc. The former presents the problem of uncritical gushing, the latter egocentric chest-puffing (well, let's face it, both are chest-puffing).
Enter Stacie Ponder, a devout horror movie fan who has earned her chops (!!) with her Final Girl blog, a mixture of humor and insight in the balance I thoroughly appreciate. Ponder presents a sincere love for movies, of throwing yourself into another universe and how it pertains to our own, but also in feeling out the borders of that new realm and all its squishy, slimy depths. This book confronts all the absurdities and smarts and innovation in the Friday the 13th series and lays them out by giving us brief overviews of each installment and color line-drawing depictions of the (numerous) kills in the course of each runtime. Not to mention some Brady Bunching of the Jason iterations and some homage to the weirdo characters who pop up in the course of the series. Ponder is not cruel in her approach, not glorifying in these deaths, but celebrating their contribution to the history of the slasher film and giving us a peek into the ups and downs of trying to keep Jason alive and stabbing.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2019Stacie Ponder, known among us horror nerds for her informative and often hilarious blog, Final Girl, gives the Friday the 13th franchise proper respect in a way you’ve most likely not seen before.
Each film in the series is given a short review, followed by Ponder’s own hand-drawn illustrations depicting every character’s untimely death. While the subject matter may be gruesome, her approach is very lighthearted and adorable, and it had me giggling and smiling throughout. There’s also a section on the survivors, as well as extra bits of funny original artwork. It’s all so darn cute and impossible not to love.
Certainly a unique and whimsical collectible for Friday fans, and a fun coffee table book for unsuspecting guests to flip through. (My dad took one look at it and simply said “What the hell is this?”, which is probably a much better review than what I’ve written)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2018Hilarious from beginning to end. A true Friday the 13th fan favorite. No actual photos from any of the movies here, just colorful drawings from someone who really loves the series as much as i do. Opened and read it within 20 minutes, not a heavy read, but full of illustrations that will make you laugh and enjoy and sullen shopgirl still don't take no food stamps!!! lol
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2021Loved this! Bought one for me and another for my best friend!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2022This chronological rundown of all the killings in the Friday the13th horror film franchise is complete and concise, with a good synopsis of each film. Each killing scene is depicted with crudely-drawn stick figures, such as what a child would create. Clever touch, but I found the illustrations a little too crudely-drawn for my liking. I mean, I was drawing more realistic arms and legs on my characters by the time I was in the first grade.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2018I've followed Stacie since the mid days of Final Girl and I've been hooked on her brand of horror comedy ever since. I use this as the top book on my tabletop books.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2018My husband is an avid Friday the 13th fan and he adored this book. Great gift for the guy who has everything.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2017A great little book full of all the essential mayhem you need and a wonderful tribute to Friday the 13th.
It's both Whimsical and Murderous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best purchase EVER!
I LOVE this book! The illustrations alone are worth the price. There's some text also but this book is about the drawings - and they are AWESOME. I'm not talking Picasso, but Southpark-like. Any fan of the series / franchise should have this book. Any non-fan should give this book a look. If there is one (or two) things that are lacking its that there is Freddy Vs. Jason and the reboot missing. Also in Jason X its professor Lowe. But these are extremely minor wrinkles. Once again, this book is about the animation which is spot on, especially to those who are familiar with the films kills.
