Real Happy: Jesus’ Surprising Path to Genuine Joy Kindle Edition

4.9 4.9 out of 5 stars 111 ratings

Are you really happy?

When almost every human choice is made with happiness in mind, why do we continue to miss out on lasting happiness? Perhaps happiness isn’t something we pursue but rather something that ensues…What if happiness is not stuff we fill up on but something we make room for? Real happiness may not be something out there at all (material) but something in here (spiritual).

In this compelling narrative, best-selling author Mike Hayes and Dr. Jeffrey Garner journey through the eight beloved Beatitudes from Jesus’ revolutionary Sermon on the Mount. Religious and non-religious readers alike will smile and feel inspired in learning that Jesus, despite popular understandings, was in fact deeply invested in human happiness. Jesus’ happiness, however, consoles sorrow, embraces emptiness, confronts injustice, and is even present in our suffering—all that we avoid in our search for happiness. Aptly reframing the Beatitudes as happy oracles, Mike and Jeffrey share personal stories and historical insights that optimize Jesus’ happy message for a 21st century audience. This book challenges our cultural conceptions of happiness and beautifully guides the reader into Jesus’ Real Happy life.

This is a read & re-read! Many things to consider

This is a read & re-read! Many things to consider
This book has inspired me to seek deeper satiation in Christ.  When things in the world seem to crumble all around, it’s clear that He is not only my safe space, but where true happiness is found! I knew this in my head and have overcome a lot, but this book has highlighted things that have illuminated my heart with a hunger for even greater freedom & experience in real true deep thriving happiness and contentment.Through considering the truths of The Beatitudes in the way they are presented here, as well as the life stories and words of wisdom, my perspective is shifting to a deeper realization of attainable happiness NOW no matter what; not when this, or when that...It’s knocked down the unrealized illusion I had in the back of my mind desiring a problem free life; as if that’s even attainable! With that desire I became disappointed in my striving for it, often trying on my own to get things done. I’ve gone from depression many many years ago when it was hard to get out of bed, not wanting to do anything; to now, being free & inspired, but overwhelmed with everything I need and want to do! Somehow happiness can get a lower priority in all of that. Obstacles always get in the way of that desired paradise of perfection!I’m more fully accepting that working through adverse circumstances is actually living life, and that it can be done peacefully, obediently trusting God through grace and with joy; not in frustration trying to get past a struggle to a place I think I can THEN fully enjoy my life. I CAN enjoy fully in the midst of struggle! I can live joyfully in faith!Get out your pens! I have highlighted so many one liners that speak powerfully all throughout the book. It is filled with solid content as well as great declarations at the end of each chapter that invite the reader to be active in this journey! They even have free resources in the back.A question that often arises in life is along the lines of “why do bad things happen to good people”. I appreciate some points in this book that have given me peace with things that don’t seem fair, or just don’t make sense. The chapter near the end on unoffendable joy has to be my favorite as it’s settled into my heart a peace to not require answers to “why” that I had previously anxiously sought out. It’s increased my faith and I believe, capacity for happiness. If a reader doesn’t get anything else to resolve their plight out of the previous chapters (which I would highly doubt), I’d say this one is indisputable! This book is for everyone and anyone! I believe there is a gem of revelation somewhere amidst its pages for all!

Every person desires true happiness.  It is the quest of every human, regardless of culture, country or religion.  The longing for happiness lies deep in the heart of everyone.  Yet few find true happiness.  Why?  Why do all search for and desire true happiness, but so few find it, keep it and live it?

REAL HAPPY is an opportunity - a road map - to discover the sublime, ecstatic, joyous, blissful, love soaked reality of our own infinite being.

REAL HAPPY teaches us that those who follow Christ need to define happiness according to Jesus. Contrary to the world that says happiness is about comfort, convenience, charisma, cash, career advancement, and the like, Jesus teaches in His sermon on the mountain that true happiness is found in godly character.

REAL HAPPY is one of those books that you will not want to put down. Like fresh manna from heaven, the book is masterfully and beautifully written. Is simply a blessing to read.

I am eager to finish reading the book! 😘

I will be re-reading and referencing this book!

I love how the authors clearly break down scriptures I’ve known since I was young in a different way than I’ve ever been taught. Each chapter holds an opportunity to increase faith and dive into the happy character of Jesus. One of the best parts is how at the end of every section there is a declaration and prayer, which gives real and practical application. I also appreciate the real and vulnerable examples that the authors give to accompany all of their main points and scriptures.

The entire book points back to the goodness of God in every season.

If you need a boost in your faith, in your joy and a reassurance that the Lord’s heart is for you to live happily. Read this book!

This book would be great for large or small book studies, a gift to someone at any stage of life, and especially for a personal, life refining self read.

This book was so helpful to me. I saw the Beatitudes so differently. I saw God in a new light. Some pieces in my walk with Him became so much clearer. Buy this book. Don’t just read it. Study it and get it down inside you. Genuine joy is worth the time! Can’t wait for the study guide for my bible study group.

This book is ancient wisdom expertly retranslated to be accessible to the modern seeker like me. I was moved by the emotional and logical truths being conveyed. It motivated me to reframe my conception of Gods love from something to be earned to something to be received. In my opinion it is more than a self help book and it is also more than a religious or spiritual proof. I found it to be great reframe of how I looked at spirituality. Without spoilers a big takeaway for me is how blessed I am that I don’t have to work for God to love me. I don’t need to be sinless or scarless or strong. He just wants me to be happy.
