Grimdarke (Maw of Mayhem MC 1): A Maw of Mayhem Shifter MC Romance Kindle Edition
Out of options and on the run after her psychotic father’s released from prison, Kit Parson heads to the only place she might be safe from him, the Maw of Mayhem MC. The unexpected move buys her time, but also puts her at risk. Surrounded by shifters, her inner cat begs to be released, and after witnessing a brutal attack on her mother as a child, she refuses to let the monster out. Totally doable, provided no bodily fluids are ever exchanged.
That takes the MC’s hot-as-hell VP, Grimdarke James, officially off the table. Mourning the recent murder of the club’s alpha and struggling to control his inner cat, the tattooed Viking god is on thin ice. If he goes feral again, he’ll be put down. Which makes his cat’s insistence that Kit belongs to him problematic, upsetting the delicate balance of the MC’s internal politics, and the woman blackmailing Grim.
But when Kit’s father catches up with her, Grim has no choice but to trust his cat, and Kit can’t deny their chemistry. Can they hold on to each other when everything is trying to tear them apart? After a gruesome triple murder propels them deeper into the paranormal world, they find themselves with unlikely allies, even as their enemies threaten to destroy everything they hold dear.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2024I can’t even describe how much I love this book. This is a new author for me and I was definitely not disappointed. I was on the edge of my seat, with my heart pounding and left breathless in the end. I cannot wait to see what comes next.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2024I’m hooked, I’m was immersed into the world of Grim anxious and anticipating each next adventure.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2024I devoured this book, it took me a second to get the dialogue between the shifters but once I did it made it some much better. I could hear the banter and conversations and it just made the story more enjoyable in my opinion. I loved the merging of MC and shifter romance, it gave a sons of anarchy vibe that I want more of.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2024It took me a while to get into the story. I felt like I did not understand the back story and I was confused about the characters. It became clearer as the story progressed. The last few chapters were fun and more interesting characters were introduced at the Moot. Then just as I was interested in reading more, the book ended with a cliff hanger. I was not happy with that. We will see if I read the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2024This book is a rough, gritty, spellbinding read. I'm excited to get more from this author and her new MC. Very well written. An intriguing page-turner.

Grim is human and his other half a mountain lion is called Darke. Grim spent years with the Satan’s Vengeance MC, Maw of Mayhem’s rival led by the Alpha Reaper. Reaper used torture to get what he wanted from Grim and the torture he inflicted on him left him emotionally and physically scared. His father Clay finally came to rescue him, but it was too late to undo some of the damage.
Grim is now the VP of Maw of Mayhem his father the Alpha, Clay, is Grim’s father. Reaper appeared at a club they were at although he was supposed to still be in prison, the outcome of that meeting was Clay’s murder. Now Grim has a decision to make whether to fight to be the new alpha requiring him to open about his past with Reaper. His secrets have made him a victim of blackmail by Nikki who wants to be the queen and Grim hates her and will never make her queen but still is too embarrassed by his past, a past forced on him by Reaper to reveal all.
Kit Parsons will be the one to change his life, but their meeting was quite unconventional and every meeting after was filled with the threat of violence. Kit’s father is Reaper, and he has been stalking her.
He wants something from her and when he finally catches up to her fear of one day shifting comes to the forefront. Daddy dearest knows that saliva, blood or semen would bring on the shift and he does something so disgusting it gave me goosebumps.
At the club where Reaper killed Clay, she meets Grim in the ladies’ room where he is peeing in the sink. She is attracted to him, and he can’t understand why his lion is obsessed with her. Darke is known to go feral thanks to something Grim was subjected to by Reaper, he has even attacked allies. Grim is in a constant fight with his other half trying to keep him under control but when he meets Kit all bets are off.
The only place Kit can go is to Maw of Mayhem where Clay had promised she would always be safe. Kit is half human and dreads shifting into the kind of monster she has witnessed by her father. Darke knows immediately that Kit is their mate but Grim doesn’t want to rush in and scare her and Darke is ready to mark her. Kit realizes that they are mates and Grim wants her to be his queen no other woman will do for him, and then the phrase “a woman scorned” messes with his life and any hope of being the Alpha.
As if things weren’t bad enough a meeting with witches, shifters and vampires is being held and Nikki has put a target on Grim’s back. Trouble is coming from all sides leaving Grim and Kit’s future up in the air. They have both suffered at the hands of Reaper and he is not giving up. They need friends that can support them and help fight what is heading their way.
Explicit Sex, adult language that some might find inappropriate, violence, secrets and surprises are the tip of the iceberg, and the author brought me into the world of MC’s and what happens behind closed doors. From the first page till the last I was glued to it and now all I want is more.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2024I really liked the story just not the ending. I hate cliffhangers. Once I got it not it I was reading to the end. I was a little confused at first but once I figured it out it was really good. Can’t wait to start the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2024Grimdarke by AK Nevermore is the first in their Maw of Mayhem MC paranormal romance series. This book combines two wildly popular romance subgenres, big cat shifter and motorcycle club romance. If you are a fan of Eva Chase’s The Blood Brotherhood, you will love the Maw of Mayhem. With vampires, witches, and cat shifters, Grimdarke will delight urban fantasy fans.
What I loved the most were the colorful characters in the motorcycle club. Each member of the cat-shifting club is vividly depicted with complex relationships and backstories. I loved Stitch’s fatherly nature, the banter between Wrench and Deuce, and the gullible prospects. The playful ribbing and camaraderie are my favorite parts of motorcycle club romances. Grimdarke shows the reader where the members stand in the club’s hierarchy through their interactions. It also shows the tension between the club bunnies and ol’ladies (also cat shifters). The tension comes from Grimdarke’s quasi-girlfriend Nikki who is the type of villain a reader loves to hate.
AK Nevermore’s shifters are full animal shifters. The characters are physically in cat form or human form. There isn’t partial shifting beyond the pupils of their eyes elongating. Mentally, the two personas share the shifter’s mind. While most of the shifters have a symbiosis with their inner cat and the two halves work together to survive, Grim’s cat, Darke, is at odds with his human counterpart. I loved their arguing and fighting for control of their physical body. I laughed out loud when Kit (the heroine) would call out Grim for arguing with Darke instead of paying attention to her. I’ve never read a character noticing the long pauses where a shifter mentally argues with themselves. As a longtime fan of shifter romance, I found this hilarious.
Kit’s an accountant by day and a stripper by night (a well-thought-out allegory to her shifter connection), living in the city as a human. She grew up adjacent to the shifter groups but is determined to live as a regular person. Kit is a down-to-earth heroine who I would want as a best friend. By the end of the book, you find that she has some connection to every paranormal sect, making her the hearthstone to the civil unrest. (No spoilers so you will have to figure out those relationships yourself.)
Overall, I highly recommend Grimdarke to urban fantasy fans or fans of motorcycle club romance who are looking for a spicy, gritty romance in a complex network of paranormal society. I would warn the reader of graphic language, blood violence, blazing hot spicy scenes, and an abrupt cliffhanger ending. I can’t wait for the next installment of this fantastic series.
