I have had this door for about two months now. I have an ovez coop and we ended up taking the door off the coup and installing it around that cutout. We needed to supplement with additional pieces of wood but it's sturdy, it fits and we didn't have to cut into the coop. We were uneasy for the first week or so because we weren't sure that it would work like it should, but so far it's worked great and saved us a lot of time. We don't have to get up to open or close the coop. We also installed a camera in the coop so we can monitor it from when we are not home. Something we have discussed is painting a bright pattern on the inside of the door so we can see if the door closed in the dark because the dark grey door we purchased isn't very visible or different from the outside when it's nighttime. So, you might consider getting a bright colored one with a lamp near it and then stenciling something on the inside so you can view it from a camera inside the coop. I hope that makes sense.
Ok so for the million dollar question. Take a look at the hen in my picture. This hen is an idiot. She sleeps face down in the coop and gets stuck in the run / outside the run / beside the run / under the run and sleeps face down in the grass for all hawks to see (they free range with an open run for rainy days.) She's just not working with a full deck and I really don't think chickens have much to work with already....so it's sad. Tonight, she was sleeping inside the coop but with her head outside the coop door. Her head was face down on the ramp where the automatic door closes. I noticed the blue light blinking and I waited around to see if she would move back into the coop when the door started closing. Mind you, when the door closes, it makes a decent noise! Nothing terrible, but enough to make a chicken bok. Anyways, the door started closing and I heard distress chirps. I was standing right there so I was able to quickly open the door and she immediately started pecking for food on the ramp while I had panic attack. Sheesh. So, the door will not continue closing. I can't tell you if it will go back up because I didn't give it time to wait. But, it did stop and didn't make a horrific scene with this little ladies neck. Also, for reference, this baby is about three more weeks bigger than the picture. But she's a small silky bantam and she's ok.

This is the best thing I bought for my girls!
This door is amazing. It opens everyday at sunrise and closes at sunset. My girls go in right before it closes but I've had a few stragglers and I just push the button and they go in then I push the button and it closes. I have a problem with raccoons and am impressed that it stays closed until sunrise so I just make sure to get my coffee and get out there before it opens. Super easy since I know when sunrise will be daily. I'm going to buy another one for an additional run I'm going to add on.
