"Once upon a time, King Kandy, the Imperial Head Bonbon and Grand Jujube of Candy Land disappeared." Thus begins the magical journey of Milton Bradley's classic Candy Land board game. Captivated by the story of a kidnapped king and eager to help find him, little ones move their gingerbread pawns along a rainbow path and through a land of candy characters, all subjects of King Kandy's realm.
Playing cards thoughtfully designed for non-readers are coded with colorful squares matching the jeweled stepping-stone path or an occasional token matching one of the characters' symbols: draw a blue card, move to the nearest blue stepping-stone; draw a snowflake and earn a visit to Queen Frostine's iceberg. There are occasional pitfalls, too: land on the wrong square and you might be stuck in Molasses Swamp until a red card is drawn. With all these enticing, sugarcoated images (and King Kandy plainly visible at path's end), children can't help but be delighted by Candy Land. It's delicious! Instructions are in both Spanish and English. Candy Land is for two to four players) --Julie Ubben

- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2014Color: MulticolorVerified PurchaseI rate toys using a 3 category system. I look at their entertainment value, durability, and creativity. Every toy needs to keep a child's attention, be able to stand up to their rough playing, and either promote their creativity or be used to play in creative ways. I'll start with a short review and then explain my reasons for the rating in detail.
We bought this for my 3-year-old daughter for Christmas, and it has been a big hit. Her and her 2-year-old brother beg to play it everyday when I get home from work. It is fun and colorful, and helps to teach them how to be patient and take turns as well as how to have fun, even if you don't finish first.
ENTERTAINMENT:
Candy land is simple enough for a 2-year old to figure out, and fun enough not to make the parents who have to play with them completely miserable. It brings back memories from my childhood, so I have a lot of fun playing as well.
My daughter loves counting the colors, and she loves narrating her path and telling stories about how she met Queen Frostine on her way to King Candy's castle. My son loves drawing the cards and moving his piece along the path.
DURABILTY:
The board is very sturdy, but the cards get pretty messed up pretty quick. My son has already crumpled up the cupcake card, so we know when that one is coming in the stack. There is a version of this game that has a spinner instead of cards, which they got from my brother for Christmas (what a coincidence), but my kids enjoy picking a card more than using the spinner.
CREATIVITY:
My daughter gets pretty creative telling stories about the Candy Land characters, but the best part about this game is that it teaches kids how to be patient and wait for their turn in a creative way.
My kids are pretty patient for being toddlers, but they are still toddlers. When they want something, they want it, and they usually aren't willing to wait for their turn. But within a few minutes of playing, they were remarkably good at taking turns. They cheered each other on, even if the other one just passed them up. They loved every minute of it.
Outside of game play, I have noticed them taking turns with toys and not fighting as much. They still fight, just not as much. They share their toys a lot better. I didn't expect that to happen. I don't think people really think that a board game would be able to teach kids life lessons, but its surprising how they carry the little things into their everyday interactions.
In conclusion, this is a great way to introduce children to board games and teach them patience and good sportsmanship. Its a must have for young children.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2025Color: MulticolorVerified Purchasebought Candyland as a nostalgic gift for Christmas, and it was an absolute hit! My nephew (age 3) was instantly hooked. We played round after round, and he kept asking to play it again and again. It was so much fun watching his excitement every time he landed on a "special" space or drew a candy character card.
The game is simple to understand, which made it perfect for a holiday family gathering where we wanted something easy to set up and enjoy. The bright colors and whimsical design kept him engaged.
It’s a great way to introduce kids to board games and spend quality time together. By the end of the day, Candyland had become his favorite game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants to play it every time I visit. Highly recommend for young kids and families!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2025Color: MulticolorVerified PurchasePerfect game for my new 3-year-old son! I thought I had purchased a cute version from Home Goods in tin can but threw it away after opening because the “board” was card stock paper and it was terribly made. Definitely not toddler friendly. Ordered the original from Amazon and it’s just as I remember. Great for teaching turn taking, winning or losing dialogue, following directions, using modified nouns (red gingerbread, blue gingerbread) and counting (one yellow, two purple). Definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2022Color: MulticolorVerified PurchaseWe had an older version of Candyland, but the cards were all bent up, so I ordered this one as a replacement. Right away I noticed the quality has gone downhill from my old version. The game board is barely thicker than posterboard so you'll need to be very careful with that. The cards are beyond thin - I had to laminate each one to give it longevity. The Candyland story insert was ripped upon receipt. Better quality materials need to be used since young kids are using this.
Aside from quality problems, we love the classic game. My 4 and 10 year olds love the game, even though the 10 year old is way old for it, but we like to play as a family. It's the competitiveness for her that keeps her interested. Game play is simple, you choose cards and go the matching color, some spaces are double colors to move 2 instead of one. The best part is the specialty cards, in this version some of the characters are different such as the ice cream for Duke of Swirl and Grandma Gooey. What makes the game so fun is that you can be all the way at the end and get a specialty card like the cupcake that sends you back. My 4 year old is learning sight words, but can't read yet and no reading is required for this game. Each round can take 2-7 minutes depending on what cards you get, good for kids with short attention span. Classic family fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have game for kids
Color: MulticolorVerified PurchaseThis is such a fun game the entire family can enjoy! My 5 year old absolutely loves it and asks everyone to play, she can play with her friends and they understand the game and rules. My 3 year old can also play with some help and support.
Forgot about this game for a while but when I found it I realized this would be a great gift for birthday parties!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gran juego

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun board game to play with our 4 year old
Color: MulticolorVerified PurchaseJust opened it today and played with our 4 year old. He absolutely loved it and it was easy enough for him to grasp quickly. He can’t wait to play it again tomorrow so I’d consider this purchase a win.
