About the Author

The ministry of Maria Woodworth-Etter (1844–1924) is often called the most powerful of the modern era. She was born in Ohio, the fourth daughter of Samuel and Matilda Underwood, who eventually had eight children.
At the age of thirteen, she went forward in a church service when the pastor gave an invitation to seek the Lord. Following this, Maria involved herself in the church and zealously attended services.
Maria felt called to serve God, but she did not feel qualified. She told God that if He would show her what to do, she would obey Him and go into the ministry. She began to hold meetings, and many were converted, healed, and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Maria traveled across North America many times and preached to thousands of people in all the large cities in the United States. Many dramatic healings of the most incurably sick occurred. Broken bones were instantly mended, the lame walked, demons were cast out, and even the dead were raised to life. Both she and her audiences reported many visions they had of heaven, angels, the New Jerusalem, and forthcoming events, including earthquakes and wars that subsequently occurred. Moreover, hundreds of thousands of people were saved through this remarkable ministry.

It is a diary, and you can read it like a revival devotional daily. It follows the life experiences of Maria Woodworth-Etter, a woman called to God and by God into the ministry at a time when women didn't preach. Her children died, her husband left her for a young woman, people threw stones and shot at her and she was threatened but she still preached! And God began showing up in power and Majesty! Some of the greatest Signs and Wonders I have ever read about are in this book! God was showing the earth that the book of Acts was NOT the end, it was just the beginning! God showed Miracles beyond the human imagination and way out of the natural realm we are so used to! He is a supernatural God, and He used this humble little broken and surrendered woman to let the earth know that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD! Expect to be in awe as you read through this book and experience how her ministry grows with each meeting as she crosses the U.S. setting up tents and preaching in churches. You hopefully will grasp the concept that God can still work among us today in displaying His power, and in often using the foolish things to confound the wise. She will tell of her happenings in numerous places and you will read victory letters wrote by those she served. God's ways cannot be put in a box and you will be intrigued by the unconventional methods He used among His people. May this book help you stand in awe of the goodness of God and how He fully equips those to accomplish His purposes throughout the earth.

This has been a great book thus far. It is great to be able to read about revivalists of old and there exploits. It builds my faith for what is happening now around the globe concerning God and the building of his kingdom! This book is not about religion although Etter refers to 'religion' often in terms of being converted to Christ, NOT necessarily what we perceive as religion today. She preached Jesus and was used as he spoke to and through her. It excites me that we can and will be used today! Praise his HOLY Name!

This personal diary of a woman called by God to pray, travel, speak, minister and heal in the name of Jesus, is a must-read for women, especially those who sense a calling in this area. Signs and Wonders is a true and honest account of a woman obeying the call of God on her life and stepping out in faith and ministering to the lost, the brokenhearted, the poor, and the outcast, the sick, and persons with various disabilities, as well as, the proud, the rich, the religious, the non-religious... I am almost 1/5 of my way through the book, and I am impressed by the honesty on her journey of faith, her personal sacrifices and sufferings in the midst of fulfilling God call on her life, despite the cultural and religious backlashes (certain denominational rules where women are not allowed to preach, speak and minister to crowds of people). God ministers through women and this book is one piece of historical evidence. If you are an educated woman, non-religious, and a feminist, you must read this book. Yes, it is a humble account, repetitive at times, but Woodworth ministered in the midst of impoverishment, cultural and religious ignorance, depravity, among many who had little to no education. She did not discriminate based on race, and opened her tent meetings to all peoples no matter what skin colour, status in society, et cetera... Unless you become like a little child, you cannot enter the Kingdom of God. You must not trust in your education, accomplishments, successes, positions, and assets; rather, you must totally lean on Christ as the all-sufficient One for your salvation and to seek Him and bask in Scripture to fulfill your purposes for being here, loving Him and others always.

Maria had a most amazing ministry bringing Jesus' miraculous on earth: miracles, healings, visions, angelic visitations song and music, aswell as countless people crying out for Jesus to rescue them, and warnings of impending disasters; were all commonplace. Many were rescued at the point of death, and some were raised up from death. She was a walking catalyst of Revival wherever she went, and it seems the revival fire continued after she left town.
Much of the book has been written in the form of comparatively brief factual accounts which appear to have been written after each campaign.
The first three chapters are a brief account of Maria's early life; in the centre of the book are testimonies; and at the end are some of Maria's uplifting sermons, with an accent on end times.
I would have enjoyed reading more detail about Maria's life, her family, her ministry, the lessons she learned, and what happened after 1916; as we today, can learn so much from those who have ministered in such power before us.
[I understand from another book that in 1918 Maria established a 500 seat church in Indiana known as "The Etter Tabernacle" where she continued to minister in the miraculous [though apparently weakening in body], for the last 6 years of her life, until she was "promoted", aged 80.]
What a privilege to be able to read an autobiography from such a mighty woman of God.
