When I go to a teaching seminar my goal is try to latch onto at least one takeaway from each session I hit up. Sometimes you hit that goal, and sometimes you don't. Professional Development books are often the same way. Sometimes you get something out of it, and sometimes you don't. There are a great many books which clearly get across either the passion of teaching or the problems with education, but fewer still that give teachers practical strategies to affect change and inspire students. This book does just that. It hands you practical tools you can immediately implement while also re-energizing your passion battery. The chapters are easily consumable, yet highly practicable.

I would recommend this book for any teacher, student, parent, or administrator! Matt doesn't promote technology at the expense of all else, but rather takes an approach that falls in line with best practice pedagogy. Technology is a tool that can and should be effectively harnessed and utilized in the practice of education. But the tool is only as effective as the user. Matt's approach to education is effective, practical, and timely. I honestly couldn't recommend a book - educational or otherwise - any higher than I do this one!

This book is FANTASTIC! It is engaging, humorous and REAL. It provides the reader with many, many useful resources that you can begin to implement whenever you are ready whether that is tomorrow, next week or next year! I laughed out loud while reading Miller reflect on his old teaching practices. Any educator can relate to the journey Miller takes as he worked to truly engage his students. He provides educators with a realistic look at educational technology and gives the reader a starting point and guide for taking that leap into truly integrating technology into the classroom. I recommend this book to all educators K-12+ who are looking to truly revolutionize their teaching.

I read this book for a book study for college credit. The information by 2022 was a bit dated, such as the emphasis placed on having students write blogs. There were some helpful tips, but nothing groundbreaking. It was an easy read and is something I’ll keep on my shelf.

If you're a teacher feeling like you're overworked and underpaid, you are! This book will help you to reclaim some of the precious time that you need not only for teaching but also for your personal life. Matt Miller creatively crafts personal experience in with a plethora of ideas for teachers to use. So whether you have a little tech phobia, or are a guru, there's something in the book for you. D.I.T.C.H. is an acronym for a model that you'll embrace to bring your classroom into the 21st century. Ditch That Textbook is a perfect companion to the other books (Teach Like A Pirate by Dave Burgess, Pure Genius by Don Wettrick, and Learn Like A Pirate by Paul Solarz) from the PIRATE family. Matt's passion for education, kids, and technology is clearly evident. You'll be motivated to read and reflect on the 12 mindsets that will improve your practice. It's a quick read that will make a huge impact on your teaching!

Typical book that they hand out to teachers to get them to use computers more. Not much in the book in terms of quality suggestions. I would not buy it again. We used it as a book study and there were not many positive comments about the text.

If you are ready to rethink the way you teach, then you need this book! If you don't think you need to rethink the way you teach, then you still need this book! I have tried going paperless and bringing technology in my classroom before and failed miserably. Matt Miller gives amazing resources and advice that makes it possible to do. The school year is coming to a close and after reading this book I am sad (not too terribly sad 😉) that summer is here. I feel like I have cheated my 3rd graders out of the way I plan to teach. I have already adapted some of the things in my classroom! This is a MUST have for all teachers and admin. Plus the book is super easy to read. Thanks again for the amazing book!! This book will be in my "ReRead" shelf every school year!
