Editorial Reviews

Review

In Your Unstoppable Greatness, Lisa and Richard Orbe-Austin brilliantly use their clinical insights as licensed psychologists, combined with years of working with companies, associations, and universities, to provide an accessible book aimed at helping individuals combat their impostor feelings to reach their highest potential. Grounded in sound psychological principles and insights (e.g., the impact of family codependency dynamics, the importance of self-care) and using the 3 A’s model (agency, assessment, and actualization), the book provides an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide for achieving one’s dreams by learning how to identify systems, organizations and toxic work environments that serve to reinforce feelings of impostorism. The case studies and the exercises in the book are among the most helpful that I’ve encountered. Perhaps the best compliment I can give is that I found the exercises to be personally and professionally beneficial! I wish this book had been available during my previous talks because I would have recommended it as a must-have resource. Suffice it to say that I will now be strongly recommending this book to anyone struggling to overcome their impostor feelings! -- Kevin Cokley, Ph.D. University Diversity and Social Transformation Professor, University of Michigan, and Editor of Making Black Lives Matter: Confronting Anti-Black Racism

"Relying on insightful prose, moving case studies, and thoughtful exercises, Drs. Lisa and Richard Orbé-Austin have crafted an invaluable guide for anyone seeking a rich, fulfilling career. With kind-heartedness and care, they expertly highlight the pitfalls of work culture we need to be mindful of as we move toward the greatness we all deserve. A must-read.”

Your Unstoppable Greatness is the "Green Book" to master the career journey challenges of these times. Imposter syndrome is our modern-day endemic that in the words of James Baldwin impacts those of us who are systematically, "marginalized." This is the book you carry with you throughout your career. YUG is the guide and ride full of sharp wit, heartfelt wisdom, real-world exercises and innovative strategies that "honors your greatness and dreams." I will be purchasing copies for my loved ones. Buckle up! -- Allen McFarlane, Assistant Vice President for Outreach & Engagement, NYU

Applause for Drs. Lisa and Richard Orbe-Austin’s latest work,
Your Unstoppable Greatness: Break Free from Imposter Syndrome, Cultivate Your Agency, and Achieve Your Ultimate Career Goals! The volume is a very readable treasure trove of wisdom which guides the reader in applying psychological truth – taken from the authors’ professional practice and expertise – to address stumbling blocks to career success. Unlike many volumes which do not offer the “how to” in achieving the reader's goals, Your Unstoppable Greatness acts as both commentary and a workbook that uses practical techniques and tools – case studies, reflection exercises, and a wide range of helpful tips and key takeaways – to assist the reader in understanding Imposter Syndrome’s impact and the workplace dynamics that trigger it. Your Unstoppable Greatness is the right resource at the right time (now!) when so many are searching for the keys to personal and professional satisfaction. It will help you to recognize and address the beliefs and behaviors that may be blocking the success that you desire and deserve – add it to your library today! -- Dr. Corlisse Thomas, Senior Vice Chancellor at Rutgers University

Beyond Great!
GET THIS BOOK! I cannot stop gushing about the work of Drs. Lisa Orbe-Austin and Richard Orbe-Austin. Their first book Own Your Greatness was a fantastic deep dive into understanding where imposter syndrome comes from in how to move beyond it. I was thrilled to receive an early-release copy of their new book Your Unstoppable Greatness. Even if you haven’t read Own Your Greatness, you can dive right into this one, though the pair of books are a powerful combination. In Your Unstoppable Greatness, they help you take your learning and empowerment a step further with actionable, research-based exercises to help you show up as your most powerful self in your career. This is perfect because let’s be honest, the workplace and our careers are the place where we’re most likely to feel comparisonitis, perfectionism, burnout, and imposter syndrome — especially if you’re in a toxic work environment. Thankfully, they cover all of that in this book. I love the section about redefining leadership, and how to show up as your best self once you get into a role of leadership. Also, as someone who wrote a book about adult friendship and regularly speaks about workplace belonging, I was completely over the moon for the section about belonging and forming healthy bonds in the workplace. Career success is absolutely tied to the social health of your workplace and closeness of your professional relationships. If you’ve ever struggled with vulnerability in the workplace, found yourself thinking about the sting of a negative interaction for days on end, or want to learn more about psychological safety and how to increase it — you’re definitely going to want to head straight to Chapter 8. Get this book. In fact, get it for yourself and everyone on your team. You’ll be glad you did.

I read the first book, "Own Your Greatness" and took the companion course, and both were excellent and my imposter syndrome reduced. I was really happy this book came out soon after I finished those two things, because I wanted something a bit more to study and just reinforce what I learned. Not only did this book give that to me, but also it reiterated how to break free from burnout and give up perfectionism. The exercises get you thinking about how you contribute to it and what you can do to change it. The book's exercises were useful and eye-opening (if you do them), and the chapter on cultivating your agency and setting stronger boundaries were especially good. I underlined so much in every chapter, including in the case studies, because everything spoke to me. I have nothing negative to say about the book or how it's written. It's been so helpful, and I enjoyed every exercise and learning so that I could become a stronger and better person.

This book contains outstanding frameworks to navigate the toughest workplace scenarios, including applicable questions after each succinct chapter. In a field chock-full of self help and advice, this one delivers above and beyond as it poses real-world questions to reconsider situations that often have seemed impossible to describe. The authors’ depth of understanding about the stakes within modern workplaces makes this a reference guide as much as a tool in crisis redirection & burnout aversion. Highly recommend to anyone struggling to make sense of workplace dynamics, or to those just looking to make wise decisions.

If you have read Lisa's and Richard's previous book, Own Your Greatness, this book is an excellent companion book to assist in reviewing and addressing Imposter Syndrome. I recommend purchasing both books as a set. Imposter Syndrome is, throughout the book, an underlying theme. The difference between these two books is that Your Unstoppable Greatness develops deep into your focus and career path goals. There are sections about leadership, authority, and identity that help you address your career journey. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking to develop their career. The questions Lisa and Richard pose in a workbook style allow you to process what you want, what you currently practice, and why. I had some "a-ha" moments and "ugh" moments when reading and working through the book. I am a person who needs the "why." This book will get you there.

Great workbook that helps you take an objective look at your professional life. I specifically appreciated how it helped me identify and neutralize triggers in the workplace. Lisa & Richard left plenty of space to write in and keep track of my progress while providing thoughtful guidance throughout the book. This is not a self help book that you read passively, it is a work and thought plan that you actively do. Well worth the investment of your time. Thanks for making this accessible to everyone and well done!

1.0 out of 5 stars A total waste of time

While the first book Own Your Greatness is a great stepping stone in reversing the Imposter Syndrome, this one is a total waste of time as it just follows a woke agenda. It could have been a great sequel to the first one if not for the ideological contamination. Stay with the 1st book and you will be well on your way to treat the IS condition.
