This unit works quietly to provide a comfortable heat in one of my small bedrooms. I usually leave it on high with the oscillating option. It has a red light in the front but it is not distracting when trying to sleep at night. I also noticed the unit itself and cord to not heat up like other units I have owned.( It seems safe to me. ) for the price point it is worth the purchase.

Affordable, Functional Space Heater

I bought this space heater based on the (mostly) positive reviews it received, and so far I really enjoy it. My girlfriend kept cranking up the thermostat during the winter, so I thought this would be a cheaper alternative to heating the whole apartment. You always read the "horror story" reviews for products like these, but you have to take those with a grain of salt. This is a very nice heater for the money.

- Heating Ability: It has three settings - one is just a fan, then heat intensity 1 and heat intensity 2. The heat intensity 1 is perfect for stashing the heater under your desk and keeping your feet warm. You need to keep it close to you (within a foot or two), but the heat it puts out is just right to keep you comfortable. Heat intensity 2 is suprisingly strong. I can keep it within six feet of the couch and it quickly heats up the local area and keeps the two of us very comfortable. It would take a while to heat up your whole living room, but people expecting that shouldn't be buying a space heater in the first place.

- Noise: One of the major selling points for me was the reviews stating how quiet this unit is. I would tend to agree with those reviews. The sound emitted is a soft white noise, I would say equal to or less than the volume of a window fan on "low". The volume doesn't change regardless of the heat setting (fan, one or two), and you shouldn't need to adjust your TV or music volume while running this heater. I've heard other space heaters run much louder than this one.

- Smell: I'm not sure what others are talking about with this "noxious odor". I know the smell they're referring to (kind of a burning plastic smell), and this heater produces minimal or zero odor. Unless you have an extremely sensitive nose, you have nothing to worry about.

- Cautions: This heater does not have a tip over safety feature, meaning if you tip it over, it doesn't automatically shut itself off. The front grate of the heater does get hot to the touch (equivalent to grabbing a cup of coffee without the handle). I don't see anyway it could start a fire, but it would burn you if you left your hand on there for more than a few seconds. Because of this, I wouldn't leave it running unsupervised if you have animals or small children.

- Value: For around $30-35, this is a nice heater that should satisfy the needs of most people with realistic expectations. Highly recommended if used properly. I also agree with others that the oscillation feature doesn't do much, but that's ok.

I wish I could take this with me everywhere I go. It heats my personal space in a master bedroom very well and keeps me warm while I sit or sleep in my cold room. It would be even better if this heater had a remote control, timer, and a digital temperature setting system instead of a speed-setting dial, but for $29.98, this product perfectly does what it is meant to do. The product also came exactly as described on the product page, in its manufacturer-designed box. The part of the metal vent where heat gets blown out of does not get scalding hot, and this part is the only part of the product that gets hot to the touch. For this reason, I think this product is relatively safe to use around small children (not babies; their skin is too sensitive) and pets. Like a lot of heaters, it does emit an odor that may be irritating to some, but the smell decreases over time. I have been using it for a week, and the smell is now gone. I am a little bit concerned about the electricity cord getting warm after an hour of usage, but it hasn't caused any problems. I will update my review after a few months. To sum things up:

PROS:
- serves its described purpose (heats small to moderately sized rooms very well)
- would not cause severe burns if product was touched during or after use
- oscillates for more even heat distribution
- great price
- good size for personal use

CONS:
- no remote control or timer
- no digital temperature setting with auto-shutoff function once the room temperature reaches the desired temperature
- electricity cord gets slightly warmer than other plugged-in cords

Love putting this heater on my desk a few feet away at a low setting to blow hot air directly on me. Nice and warm, heats up pretty much instantly, and isn't noisy at all.

I left it running a bit longer at a higher setting to see if it would warm up my entire open basement, but it did not seem to make much of a difference. So it seems appropriate for heating smaller rooms or a person directly.
