Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability among children and young adults in the United States. Each year, an estimated 1.5 million Americans sustain a TBI.
Roberta was living her best life as an empty nester until she received a call that would change her life forever. Her daughter Paige was hit by a vehicle in a crosswalk. Paige (front cover photo), an independent young adult, became dependent on her mother again. Roberta reentered the world of caretaking. Both lacked the tools to understand what was happening.
For years following the accident, their lives changed in ways they could never have imagined. Roberta thought Paige looked fine;Paige was wondering when she would feel normal again. Both didn’t understand the invisible brain trauma that persisted. In She Looks Fine, Roberta and Paige openly share their journey through TBI together, so that you can understand, accept and support your loved one even though they may look fine.

Even experts are often clueless as to what they don’t know.
I felt all your anxiety as a mother with a daughter the same age. Most of us don’t know what we don’t know. Its a good reminder to all of us to be more aware and compassionate to those who have unseen injuries.
My son as a teen was hit by a car on his bicycle on the sidewalk on our street. Lady thought he saw her wanting to back out. Actually, his brakes failed him. She was trying to tell me we would have to pay damages to the car. Police officer said no, she would have to pay long term injuries of my son and I called fire dept to come look over my son. Pedestrians always have the Right of Way. We were lucky as he had issues develop within short time after and shooting pain going down into his foot. I got a massaging pad for him and soaks in epsom salts and lots of visits to doctor. It seemed to resolve itself within 6 months. He is highly active but still has issues and such which not sure what they are. I will have to have him read this!
I could also not help but to compare CFS/Fibromyalgia/Pots, which is what I had for 15 years and they all stem from ANS dysfunction (Atomic Nervous System). Many similar things experienced and healing strategies very similar. I'm now healed of this as of a year ago.
Invisible illnesses of any kind are virtually not understood. This books helps give insight into what this actually looks like.
Singing and humming helps to stimulate the Vegus nerve which is the main large nerve running down back of neck and spine into the rest of the body. Stimulating this helps promote healing.
Other items I would suggest to look into for helping would be
: DMSO, Niacinamide (Thorne), L-Threonate is a a form of magnesium supplement to especially help with sleep, B1 melts and Allithiane, and Stinging Nettle Leaf is an herb with many super healing benefits.
This book is a true story about a mom and daughter's journey as they deal first hand with this issue of a brain injury. What courageous beautiful women they are. Pray for both of their journey through this and thank them for stepping up and sharing their story.
Our son was in a serious boat accident when he was eighteen-years-old. He was catapulted out of a high-speed boat that went aground and landed on rocks at Granite Bay in Folsom Lake, CA. Although it does not sound like he was as injured severely as Paige, these TBI symptoms rang true in my head from our personal experience. It was a rough two years. His memory, headaches, depression, crying was all part of it. He had injured his hip and was in PT for a year with that. I am happy to say he is a 41-year old man, married to a beautiful wife with five beautiful children. Like you, Roberta, I know he was left here to do great things! Grateful everyday.
I now wonder about my parents talking about my one sister that always gave them problems. They told a story when my two sisters were babies and my oldest sister got a can of food and wacked my other sister on her head. My parents always said it changed her personality completely. She had such a rough life and passed away earlier than she should have.
Thank you for being so vulnerable and telling your complete story with the silver lining in spite of the devastation. True pioneers!
