While Wright asks some helpful questions and makes insightful comments, often his questions jump over the text itself to fit it into his interpretive scheme or to try to apply it before examining it. Also, there are speculative questions about what the characters in the text might have been thinking. It's clear that he felt the need to counter critical scholars, but these comments also divert attention away from the text. Overall it was disappointing for a scholar of his ability not to pay more attention to the text itself. Our group wants to continue with Luke's companion volume, the Acts of the Apostles, and we are looking for a study that helps us to walk through the text, the main purpose of a Bible study.
