- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2025This little book is written so that parents can discuss the facts about the penis with their children - both boys and girls. It forthrightly depicts both intact (not circumcised) and circumcised penises so that children will understand the difference when they see a penis that differs from their own or from that of their brother. It is the best book on the subject for young children that I have seen, and I have seen many in my work as a lawyer representing those whose circumcisions were botched. My only criticism is that it advises parents to tell boys with retractable foreskins to retract when urinating. This is entirely unnecessary as urine is sterile in the healthy child and retraction can cause the meatus (urinary opening) to widen and the urine stream to spray. Otherwise, the advice given in this book is spot on - a rarity in such books in the U.S. I highly recommend it. Please note that this book can be read by parents to their children. It is not necessary that the child read the book for himself/herself. In fact, it is best for the parent to read the book with the child and answer any questions the child may have. I think it is appropriate for ages 2 and up. It is never too early to learn these facts. Also note that the authors have another book called All About Vulvas and Vaginas that is also aimed at the same audience and that is also excellent.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2024I loved the simplicity of this book. I went searching for something as my little girl has started to show curiosity about the difference between boys and girls body parts. Her father and i have agreed to be as honest and straightforward, we want to answer her question and help her not to feel ashamed for being curious and I feel like this book is a good start for her age to help her satisfy the curiosity is a healthy and safe environment.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2024As an early childhood educator, I’m always looking for books to have in my library for my parents to use as resources, and these books are perfect. The simplicity of the illustrations and language makes for a very comfortable and informative read. The authors put everyone at ease with a subject matter that is often difficult for some people to discuss. The added notes for parents from the authors are also a great addition.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2024I bought this as a gag gift for a wedding shower and I have not been disappointed
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2024Hoped for more information for my curious kiddo. Too expensive for what it is, very disappointed
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2024I purchased these books for my b/g twins who obviously know and see each other’s anatomy on the regular. It’s so great to have this book specifically because my son is not circumcised and my husband is — and my son has questions! Appropriate, clear language that helps kids stay empowered and safe in their bodies. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2024The following review was written by my partner, Suzanne:
As an early childhood teacher, teacher educator, parent, and grandmother of 10, I think this book is long overdue and much needed! Children have questions and this book answers many of those questions in a sensitive and informative way with simple language and bright illustrations easily understood by young children. In addition, there is a section for adults which contains helpful information and addresses questions and concerns that parents and caregivers may have. I give children’s literature workshops and there is a growing body of children’s books on sensitive topics and hot issues that are important resources for teachers and counselors to know about and share with families. So, All About Penises –A Learning About Bodies Book and its companion book All About Vulvas and Vaginas are ones to have on hand as a good resource for families and they are great books for parents to buy and read to their children.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2024I am a long time sex educator and parents are always asking me for book recommendations. I'm so glad to be able to recommend this book (and it's companion book, All About Vulvas) to parents of the littlest learners!! The language is concise, clear and fun for kids and parents alike and helping young children learn about their bodies in a completely neutral, shame-free way is so empowering. Thank you to the authors from a very grateful sex educator!!
