    I purchased my first of these less than a month ago. Then I ordered a second identical unit a few days after the first arrived. That's how much I've been impressed with the performance and sophistication of these little chargers. I've used them happily on a couple of Optimas, three Odysseys (including pair of their unfortunately discontinued Diehard Platinum branded batteries), an Exide Edge AGM, a relatively new Diehard Advanced Gold AGM, the original (from late 2003) batteries in a VW Phaeton, a factory "wet acid" battery in a late-model VW.I really appreciate the display showing charging status. There's some ambiguity in the instructions for selection of settings for charging. There's a button for Optima and other "high performance" AGM batteries. Doesn't every vendor claim to be selling "high performance" AGM products? Optima customer support opined the Odyssey-built batteries were "high performance," weren't sure about the others. Until advised to the contrary, I tend to use the Optima setting on all the AGM batteries.Wish they offered something as good for the six-volt Optima AGM battery.UPDATE: Four months later, I realized that you can indeed use this charger on the six-volt Optima battery. The catch is that you must charge two at a time, connected in series (not parallel). I'm doing it for the first time this morning, topping off the charge on a pair of new batteries just arrived from Amazon. (They were fresh and reasonably well charged on arrival.) The 12" East Penn connector cable (battery to battery, negative post to positive of the other battery) is available online. Mine was just under twelve bucks at All Battery Sales & Service.Optima customer service advises the pair should be matched in capacity, size and voltage. Hoping to use this method to revive deeply discharged six volt batteries? I'm not sure how often two discharged batteries end up with about the same voltage, unless awfully close to zero.

    This is one of the most intelligently designed products I've ever used.

    I also own a Ctek 7002 & a Noco Genius G3500 battery chargers both of which I also like a lot. This one is better. It keeps you apprised of what it is doing. Will tell you if your connection to the battery is bad. And lots of other stuff that you don't have to get out the manual to understand. It has idiot-proof connections for the cords. And even a place for you to wrap the cords around the unit for storage. The wall mount has a place where you can clip on the clamps. Plus, it has well thought-out controls (buttons) on the face of the charger. (For geeks: Great UI design.)

I did a trickle charge on the old battery and a power surge/interruption killed the Noco G3500 charger. I live in rural Wisconsin. (Noco graciously replaced it since it was only 3 months old.) Anyway, the Optima was completely discharged last week. So flat that neither the Ctek nor the Noco would recognize it or start charging. (The Ctek has a setting for Optima batteries, but that made no difference.) The Noco would quickly flash all the lights and the Ctek would think about it and then go into problem mode.

    So I bought this charger thinking that Optima probably knew how to best charge their batteries. I put in on the battery for 24 hrs. Sure enough! It read 100 percent charge the next day. Started the car and it fired right up. Awesome!

    It's true! It will charge batteries other chargers won't.

    The Digital 400 isn't as powerful as Optima's bigger 1200 charger, so it takes longer to do a complete charge or reconditioning. But after reading the reviews on Amazon, it also doesn't have the problems the 1200 seems to have—and it's half the price.

    Downsides: The wires seem a little insubstantial. (A softer plastic insulation may be the reason for that impression.) The clamps could have bigger jaws and I had to spread the clamp wires more apart (a bigger "Y") to attach to the terminal clamp and a safe grounding point in the engine compartment.

    It feels substantial. It's seems well made, it's easy to use and it tells you what it's doing. Plus it's a comparable price to the Ctek and Noco chargers. What more can you ask for than that?

    I am really, really impressed with this little unit.

    6 months back I purchased a few new Optima Yellow Top batteries for my cars. My 75 Datsun 280Z rarely gets driven and I had forgotten to disconnect the battery before it sat for over a month without being started. When I went to start the car the battery was so dead that it wouldn't even start with the jump box attached to the battery. I pulled the battery out and took it to my local O'rileys Auto Parts where they took it and told me they would get it charged over night and call me. I waited 2 days without hearing from them and decided to go into the store. When I got there the guy said my battery still wasn't charged but they would keep it on the trickle charger for another night and see if it was up to 12v. It was sitting at about 11v when I picked it up the next say. The employees of the O'rileys told me that the battery was reading as good though and that most likely the battery was down to about 1/4 of its capacity and at the end of its life. When I told Amazon about the battery they immediately sent out a replacement. The replacement arrived looking like it had fell through the box so I was concerned about the condition of the battery. Amazon decided to refund my money for the battery. Instead of buying a 3rd battery I decided to buy a nice Optima charger, check the batteries out and charge them if possible. I left the original Optima on the charger overnight and found it at 13.4v and 100% capacity the next morning. Delighted with my find I grabbed the 2nd battery and placed it on the charger. Turns out that it was good as well but only about 40% charged. That was taken care of by the next morning. I guess the guys at O'rileys should invest in a good Optima charger.

    The charger seems well built and has a nice digital face. Simple options make setting up easy. Safety features like a warning and internal killswitch when on the wrong polarity. Goes through all stages of charging, conditioning and maintaining a battery on it own. Will charge a deeply discharged battery. Safe for Acid, gel or AGM style batteries. Monitors air temperature to provide the perfect charge. Feels very durable but looks nice at the same time.

    I have a few chargers. This one has the best clips of any I have. And really long cords. Nice to have all types of batteries on one charger. It's easy to use, easy to read. It's the first charger I have capable of restoring discharged batteries. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

    El producto llegó antes de lo previsto y en buen estado.
    Tuve que utilizarlo ese mismo día ya que mi auto no encendía desde un día anterior por un error mío.
    Yo cuento con una batería Optima Amarilla y mi auto tiene la batería en la parte trasera. Por comodidad pensaba quitar la batería y después conectar directamente el Cargador Optima a la batería sin embargo el manual indica que en ese caso se debe utilizar otras conexiones, esto se me hizo raro por lo que busqué en internet y en el sitio de Optima viene una actualización al manual (recomendable descargarlo y leerlo antes de utilizar el Cargador). Siguiendo las instrucciones, decidí mejor dejar la batería en mi coche y conecté el Cargador Optima a las conexiones que tiene mi coche en el cofre. La operación fue muy sencilla, después de un diagnóstico inicial seleccione mi tipo de batería y comenzó el proceso.
    Todo iba bien hasta que ocurrió una tormenta eléctrica. Temía que fuera a suceder algún percance en la conexión eléctrica de mi casa ya que es común la perdida de energía en lluvias fuertes. El proceso (llevaba como 5 horas) indicaba una carga de 75%, y en el manual se indica que el proceso consiste en Carga, Acondicionamiento, Mantenimiento, Re-Acondicionamiento y un último Mantenimiento, todo dura, según el manual desde 9 a 36 horas dependiendo del estado inicial de la batería.
    Desafortunadamente en el manual no se indica alguna precaución o paso a seguir si es necesario interrumpir el proceso. Me imagino que lo ideal sería dejar al Cargador Optima hacer su trabajo pero en esta situación no era opción para mí. Tuve que tomar el riesgo (unos minutos después se fue la luz) de desconectar el Cargador Optima, afortunadamente no sucedió algún daño y al día siguiente continué con el proceso.
    El Cargador Optima me ha parecido muy sólido y con buen material. Hubiera estado muy bien en contar con algún tipo de gancho para colgar del cofre del vehículo por que el pedazo de plástico, que en el manual dice que es gancho o soporte, es inservible. Es recomendable dejar el Cargador Optima en un lugar con buena ventilación ya que se calienta bastante, el proceso de carga se puede ver interrumpido por la temperatura por lo que el aparato se pausa hasta volver a condiciones óptimas de operación.

    Have used it 4 or 5 times and am pleased with the results. The display gives all the the info I would need. It works well with both regular and AGM batteries. I like the cord storage, light weight and compactness For storing when not in use.. It is pricey for what it is but would buy again for the features.

Charging, 3. Conditioning... Etc. I find it very useful. Charged my AGM battery to 100% and it seems that everything works as it should. I really like the compact design of the charger. It took me about 8 hours to charge battery from 20% to 100% as newer batteries I understand need slow charging to prevent overheating. All in all I am satisfied. Hope this helps.
