Lead Instructor of Yoga and Meditation for Peloton Ross Rayburn offers a new and accessible take on mindfulness and the art of meditation through the practice of introversion, which is a method of self-exploration for finding authenticity, joy, and calm in our hectic, extroverted world. As New York Times bestselling author Robin Arzon says, “Turning Inward provides the tools to befriend yourself. In sharing his mindfulness TIPs, Ross provides a path for even the most novice meditator. Herein lies many entry points back to oneself.”
Building off his popular Peloton meditation and yoga classes and his years of teaching and spiritual study, Ross Rayburn offers a new way to look at meditation. Rather than a purely esoteric practice, meditation is, Ross argues, simply “turning in,” which anyone can learn how to do through the practice of introversion. Billy Porter, award-winning actor, singer, director, composer, and playwright, commented, “Ross Rayburn is one of those rare people who understands how to help us access our inner depths. I’m proud to call him both my teacher and my friend.”
Because we spend most of our time “turned outward” in order to function in society, introversion offers both a respite and a source of insight. The practice of introversion leads to a happier, calmer life and a truer sense of yourself and your path—something many crave in our chaotic and often polarized world.
With the easy and enjoyable techniques in this book, and a surprisingly simple and straightforward way of thinking and seeing, you can begin introverting with more intention and with more structure and regularity, for even greater benefits. You’ll learn how to handle life’s difficulties with less anxiety and greater perspective, and you’ll have the tools to remember who you really are, especially during those times it’s easiest to forget.
Through these practical exercises, guided visualizations, opportunities for contemplation, breathing techniques, and more, you will discover that everything you need to be is already who you are. It’s inside you. All you have to do is turn inward to find it.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2024Ross’s meditation and yoga have been a practice of mine since he began at Peloton (I too worked for Peloton for over 6 years). He is by far my favorite instructor due to his grounded, practical and always gentle reminding that we plant seeds even when we think our practice is not “perfect”. He is gracious… well thought and intended…and ever so mindful in what he teaches. This book was a deeper dive into what he gives us in his classes and I am certain it will not be just a one time read, but I will reread it as part of the continual practice in turning inward to become a more aware, spiritual and better contributor to the world around me and the people I serve. Turning Inward is a gift to becoming a better version of ourselves without scrutinizing, rather growing gently into who we are meant to be.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2024Turning Inward is written by a popular yoga and meditation teacher who found a widespread following through his work at Peloton. I enjoy his calming presence when I take his virtual classes and was interested in reading this book based on my familiarity with his work. Unlike many of his colleagues who have written memoirs in recent years, Turning Inward is a much different book. Rather than spill details about his personal and professional life with other fitness celebrities, Rayburn makes the case that introverting is something that anyone can do in a manner that suits them best. He shares the benefits of pausing and looking inward to better understand oneself and those around them. While building his case, he continually describes ways for anyone to incorporate this practice in just about any environment--including those with no previous meditation experience. The closing chapters of this book include a catalog of meditations to walk someone wishing to build a meditation practice through a 4-week program, increasing the time spent meditating from 5 minutes to 20 minutes each day. Prompts are numerous, and Rayburn encourages the reader to find any options from his smorgasbord of choices that click and go with them. Anyone wishing to explore a variety of methods toward a more mindful way of life in just a few minutes each day will appreciate the offerings in this title.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2024I had purchased 2 of these books and I started reading mine and it’s fantastic!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2024I was initially interested in this book because I’m a member of the peloton community and Ross, is by far, my favorite Peloton meditation instructor! His yoga classes are also always fun, but his meditations are top tier! I don’t know a lot about meditation but this book was enlightening and I enjoyed getting a better look at his goals for meditation and how he simplifies it so that meditating isn’t some big event you have to prepare for. The way he explains any moment of simply slowing down as a form of meditation really helped me feel more capable as an active participant and not just sitting and listening to a meditation class on Peloton.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2024Its a very rare privilege to get such vulnerable and intimate specifics directly from a fitness instructor. I see Ross daily on Peloton and he genuinely has the warmest spirit during his meditation and Yoga Classes. His memoir lived up to all my guesses and wonderments I had about him. I was taking Yoga and Meditation long before Peloton was even a thing. I must say though... I find his classes to be grounding and that is a great feeling to get from my home. Given his initial goals... I and millions are certainly fortunate that the universe saw a more meaningful purpose for him. Turning INWARD via Yoga and Meditation is far from a luxury. Given the scientific benefits and this jacked up world that will persist the world is fortunate to have access to his passionate instruction through the free and paid Peloton virtual platforms. This was a beautiful read and what a blessing to have him share so much more than he does outside the Peloton Studio.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2024What an awesome experience this book is! As one who has often struggled to formally meditate since beginning my yoga practice two decades ago, I found Ross' book extremely supportive, helpful, practical and empathic. The key words in the subtitle really appealed to me - who doesn't want to be calm, joyful and authentic, especially given the world in which we are living - and I found the reverberation of calm in the many offerings Ross provides in his short-to-longer guidances, resulting in more joyfulness and finally....yes, a feeling of being within my authentic self.
Anyone new to the idea of meditating of just sitting still and calming down, anyone who has made a resolution to sit still and calm down but is having a hard time getting started or doesn't know how, anyone for whom the idea of doing any of this suggests New Age-California-hippy-dippy-weirdo but knows they should be doing something for their stress level - this book is for all of you! Ross Rayburn's book is a GEM, just GET IT!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2024Ross Rayburn is one of my favorite Peloton yoga instructors, and I really enjoyed getting to learn a little bit about his background and how he came to be a yoga instructor through this book. As someone who has read a lot about meditation, from both a “secular” perspective and from the Thai Forest Tradition branch of Buddhism, I found Ross’ instructions, explanations, and exercises to be an excellent introduction to meditation practice that would particularly appeal to individuals looking to start or deepen their meditation practice. If you’ve taken a Peloton meditation class and are interested in going a bit deeper, this book is an excellent companion that will give you the tools and perspective to make the most of a mindfulness practice, whether in conjunction with Peloton meditation classes or independent of them.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2024I love how Ross opens our eyes to the fact that what we do every day can actually be a form of meditation. This book is just amazing, and I really appreciate all the TIPs spread out through the chapters. It's like he's right there with you, especially since it's his voice as well when listening to the audible.
