- "If you only read one book this year on America's unending 'War on Terror,' it should be this persuasive and devastatingly damning account of how the United States created the original al Qaeda terrorism threat by its own actions and then increased that threat by orders of magnitude by its wanton killings in one country after another in the name of 'counter-terrorism.' Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop!" -- Daniel Ellsberg, Pentagon Papers whistleblower and author of The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner
- "Nothing has fueled the abuse of government power in the last 20 years like the 'War on Terrorism.' Scott Horton's essential new book, Enough Already, is the key to understanding why it's not too late to end the wars and save our country. Three administrations in a row have promised us a more restrained foreign policy. It is time we insisted on it." -- Ron Paul,M.D., former congressman and author of Swords into Plowshares: A Life in Wartime and a Future of Peace and Prosperity
- "With outstanding scholarship, research and analysis, Scott Horton's new book, Enough Already, lays bare the logical absurdity and self-defeating nature of America's permanent-war establishment." -- Lt. Col. Daniel L. Davis, USA (Ret.) four-time combat deployer, two-time winner of the Bronze Star and author of Eleventh Hour in 2020 America: How American Foreign Policy Got Jacked Up and What the Next Administration Can Do About It
- "Enough Already is essential reading for anyone who wants to know how we got here." — Andrew Cockburn, investigative reporter and author of The Spoils of War: Power, Profit and the American War Machine
- "Nothing in this book is simply historical or abstract to tens of millions of families. Scott Horton has written an incredible accounting of the wars of the last twenty years." -- Capt. Matthew Hoh, USMC (ret.), former senior State Department official, Zabul Province, Afghanistan, senior fellow at the Center for International Policy
- "Scott Horton is one of the best informed and hardest hitting critics of the War on Terror. His new book is a gold mine for anyone seeking to learn about the frauds and failures of U.S. foreign policy." -- Jim Bovard, columnist at USA Today and author of Public Policy Hooligan
- "Enough Already must be read by every American who cares about the future of his country because the cost of these imprudent wars has proven detrimental to the nation's moral compass, global reputation, economic well-being and, indeed, national security. Horton's latest volume is a damning and impassioned case against war." -- Ramzy Baroud, editor of Palestine Chronicle and author of These Chains Will Be Broken: Palestinian Stories of Struggle and Defiance in Israeli Prisons

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2021Scott Horton's background, as author of "Fool's Errand", head of the Libertarian Institute, Antiwar.com, and radio host who has conducted over 5,000 interviews with experts on foreign policy and political science makes him well-qualified to write "Enough Already" and call for a much-needed end to the GWOT.
The book draws a line from 1979 on through to the present day and gives a broad big picture analysis and bird's eye view of the GWOT. Furthermore, it delves into details which will even surprise some familiar with the subject matter. There are so many players and factions and Scott's writing style helps the reader more or less make sense of and keep track of who is who as they follow the action and warpath.
Towards the end of the book he discusses what the GWOT has cost America. Having the foundational understanding of the GWOT provided by the book will help Americans and the people of the world understand what is currently transpiring in America, where the economy is on steep decline, and a new "Domestic War on Terror" is being introduced.
It will also help the reader make sense of foreign affairs, as we see ongoing fighting abroad...whether its the missiles that continue to drop in Iraq or Syria by various actors, or whether its the renewed and dangerous aggression by Washington against other great powers such as Russia. It is indeed well past time to call the troops home and end the War on Terror.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2021I'm really enjoying Enough Already so far. I learned about Scott Horton and antiwar.com from Dave Smith's Part of the Problem podcast (which I recommend highly). Horton is impressively fluent in the history of U.S. foreign policy generally and our military interventions specifically and makes a very strong case that America's wars in the Middle East have been an abject failure and should be terminated immediately. The argument (largely based on Osama Bin Laden's own words prior to 9/11) that the attacks on the U.S. were largely a RESPONSE to American interventionism in the Middle East (and in fact part of a deliberate strategy to diminish American power by damaging our credibility and bankrupting our country) is unassailable, and has been so since at least since 2007, when Lawrence Wright published "The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11" (also highly recommended -- and available on Amazon).
The problem is that our leading political parties (and the big media companies that have become subservient to them) are dominated by pro-war neocons on the Right and pro-war neo-liberals on the Left, all of whom are directly or indirectly making money or deriving political power from fighting wars that are actually terrible for our country and which undermine our security. I'm at a loss to know how to turn things around.
Sadly, it is hard to find a political home in America these days if you're anti-war. Only libertarians and *some* progressives seem to even care about ending the wars. Buying and sharing Scott Horton's book might help.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2023"Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terrorism" by Scott Horton is an essential and comprehensive examination of the United States' prolonged war on terror and its repercussions in the Middle East. Horton meticulously deconstructs the complex web of events and policies that have shaped the region over the past few decades, providing readers with a clear and insightful analysis of the United States' foreign interventions.
What stands out most in "Enough Already" is Horton's ability to cut through the political rhetoric and media spin to expose the truth of the situation. His arguments are well-researched and grounded in factual evidence, making this book an important resource for anyone seeking to understand the full scope of the war on terror and its impact on the Middle East.
Furthermore, Horton doesn't shy away from addressing the moral and ethical implications of the United States' actions, challenging readers to consider the human cost of war and the long-term effects it has on societies. His writing is powerful and persuasive, urging us to question the narrative that has been presented to us and to demand accountability from our leaders.
In conclusion, "Enough Already: Time to End the War on Terrorism" by Scott Horton is a crucial read for anyone interested in foreign policy, the Middle East, or the war on terror. Horton's analysis is sharp, insightful, and unyielding in its pursuit of the truth, making this book a valuable contribution to the conversation surrounding the United States' role in the Middle East and the need for a more peaceful and just approach to global conflicts.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2024Horton does a fantastic job laying out and relating all of the terrible foreign policy decisions our nation (the United States) has made over the past several decades in this completely failed war on terror. I wish that this book was taught in at least some capacity to all highschool students so that some marginal understanding among my post 9/11 generation, Zoomers if you will, could not only understand all that we’ve lost for this ridiculous cause but also so we could finally be the ones to end this horrible mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it and Weep
This book is a whistle stop tour of the history of the US war on terror, it told me some things I knew, some I suspected and a lot I was ignorant of. It's a damning indictment of a relatively small group of neocons and self serving individuals that have seen an opportunity to feed their vanity, careers and bank accounts by supporting/starting a slew of wars and conflicts across the globe.
These politicians, many non-elected and business people have been aided by a complicit/supine media in spreading smears/lies and disinformation in order to cause murder and mayhem over the last 3 decades on an industrial scale. The book made me both angry and sad, but I'm glad I read it. A huge amount of misery has been spread, and practically everything the US has done to "fight terror" has been counter productive.
To paraphrase Lincoln"You can fool almost all of the people, all of the time". At the very least this book deserves the widest readership possible.
