The syringes are for my diabetic cat. They work great and are also easy to use. I like them because they can be given in units or half unit measurements.
Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2024
These are wonderful for extremely precise dosing thanks to the half-unit measures. I have a cat who is VERY insulin sensitive; I think (and hope) he's borderline in remission, but right now he still needs insulin at very small doses or his BG goes too high. Like, 0.25u or less 2x/day. Having the .5 line helps me figure out where .25 would be, and when I need to do less than .25, I do literally the width of the very first line, approx 0.1 unit. I was frustrated when they first arrived by how short they are but now that I'm used to them I prefer them over the longer ones. I ran out a couple of days ago and switched to the regular, longer-needle syringes that I've used in the past which do not have half-unit line markings and it is SO much more difficult that I'm reordering these right now and donating the other box. Cannot recommend highly enough for those who are capable of tight control thanks to insulin sensitivity but need really precise measuring to do so!

These 31g needles are small and sharp enough that my cat seems generally unbothered by his insulin injections. I appreciate having the 1/2-unit markings on the 0.3cc syringe, since he only gets a 1.5 unit dose.

I just wish they came in 100 count boxes instead of 60. When I can find the right size with half-unit markings at a local pharmacy, they come in boxes of 100 (and at a better unit price), but they don't always have them in stock.

I never thought I would be writing a review about syringes. In the last few months, my 13-year-old dog has contracted senior adult diabetes, and now he must have two shots every day to keep him alive. I don't mind because he is my best friend, but the anxiety associated with giving shots to your boy when you've never done it before is a bit nerve-racking for sure. When we started, we picked up his insulin and syringes from Wal-Mart and thought we were all good.

The syringes seemed fine though it was a bit difficult to hit the ML mark exactly and of course it was a bit difficult to get the cap on and off...but not knowing any better, we thought this was normal. When it came time for a replacement order, we decided to try these UltiCare VetRx syringes instead. In a word -- WOW!!!

It is infinitely easier to take off the cap due to the design. Hitting the exact 3ML mark is so very easy. I don't know how they do it, but the smooth glide of getting the insulin into the syringe is unbelievably different. I am amazed every time I draw in the insulin to give the boy his shot. On the stick side, our boy does not seem to feel the stick nearly as much. Most times it goes completely unnoticed even though the needle size is exactly the same as the earlier product.

Nothing but UltiCare's for us going forward! Just a great product.

2 MONTH UPDATE:
I noticed there are small variations in the syringe markings and lubrication from syringe to syringe. My cat is now on tiny doses of Lantus, anywhere between 1/3 of the zero line to the full width of the zero line. Since she is on such a tiny dose, any manufacturing variations on the print of the unit markings on the syringe makes a difference. I have noticed that the bottom of the zero line is not always at the end of the barrel where the plunger stops - it varies from syringe to syringe. Some syringes have a gap between the bottom of the zero line and the end of the barrel that can be as large as half a zero mark. So if your cat or dog is on a tiny amount of insulin, make sure to take these manufacturing variations into consideration. This observation also depends on which side of the line you're looking at. The zero line is printed with a slight slope on one side of the line so the left side and the right side of the line are not perfectly aligned with the end of the barrel. I've also noticed that the amount of lubrication inside the syringes also varies.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
My cat is very insulin sensitive. She's on 0.15 units (width of the zero line) to 0.25 units of Lantus. 0.25 units would be impossible to draw without the 0.5 unit markings. I use a high power magnifying glass and have a lamp shine light through the barrel for me to see the 0.25 units. The gauge and length of the needle is perfect. Best wishes to all of you here with diabetic pets. It is not easy.

Super convenient that I was able to pick up two boxes of these from a Lockbox near me.
So my dog wasn't dissatisfied with these, he also wasn't impressed. I noticed they had a tendency to seem like they might be clogged. A few times I bumped the needle part into the medicine container, and even though I know they were gentle knocks they still absolutely ruined the needle tip. Also after using them on this pooch and inspecting them I truly believe that they're supposed to be ruined after the slightest use to ensure that they act as single use items.
I wouldn't make these my absolute last choice because they do function reasonably well but their overall size, quality, and quantity per box has me feeling pretty sure that I won't be ordering these again unless I needed the convenience of picking them up at a Lockbox near me.
