A fellow artist told me about this paper. It's nothing like the "oil canvas pad" that I've used before. Those are ok for experimenting with, etc, but for a painting you'll be proud of, they don't look professional. This Arches oil paper is more like watercolor paper, but has been made to withstand oil paint. I like to wipe out areas and scrub other areas, so I find that an additional coat of gesso to this paper and then lightly sanded with a brown paper bag makes it feel more like a panel. I use masking tape to hold it down to a board and then paint on it as usual. You can frame it with a mat and glass, but I like to use just the mat and a frame or no mat at all. It looks more like an oil painting that way. This pad is IDEAL for traveling! I also cut it into a smaller size for quick studies. Arches is an amazing company making quality art materials.

The oils didn’t soak through. It has a different texture to canvas. It’s a somewhat rough paper finish. Similar to cold press cotton watercolour paper.
I have only done a 4x6 painting on it and was very impressed. It was a great way to do a much more cost effective birthday card/gift.
Paint goes on more like a cotton or cotton/linen blend canvas but there isn’t the thread pattern. I used opaque and transparent oil paints without any issue.
There was no warping or stretching. No change at all during or after painting on it.
Didn’t know what to expect but had my doubts. I typically paint in belgium linen panel boards. They are VERY expensive so this will be a great option for some projects. Great for experimenting / practicing
It’s archival quality too.
No criticisms it’s as good as the claims
Very impressed and happy
