Athica Lane: The Carpino Series Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 11,945 ratings

From USA Today Bestselling Author Brynne Asher

A single dad, grumpy-sunshine, age-gap romance that will leave you wanting more...

Cam Montgomery is a single dad who knows his priorities: his kids, his job, his business. Dealing with his disaster of an ex-wife is bad enough, not to mention delinquent football players, and a meddlesome mother.

Cam doesn’t have the luxury of time for anything more, especially a relationship. Even if it is Paige Carpino—smart and sweet, but at every turn, knocks him on his ass with the unexpected.

Figuratively speaking of course.

Paige might come in a small package, but she makes up for it in spirit. An energetic spit-fire who has some heat to her sauce, she’s dedicated to her new business, her family, and a select group of friends. She’s never put herself out there, but then again, there’s never been anyone worthy.

Until one day in a burger joint, an asshole practically enters her into a wet t-shirt contest. Who knew a disaster like that could be the beginning of your life? Or, more importantly, that asshole would be your reason for being. But anything can happen when you finally put yourself out there for a single dad, ex-football player, and the hottest man you’ve ever run into. Throw in the Carpino’s, the Montgomery’s, and an eighty-five-year-old bossy friend into the mix, and it’s a recipe for something ... big.

Warning: This book contains a hot dad, a sassy heroine, steamy parts, and naughty words. If you’re under the age of 18, this author is frowning at you with her mama eyes telling you to walk away.

Perfect Dad

Perfect Dad
This series had me binge reading all weekend, and I really can't recommend it enough. It delivered on continuity, and it was just as suspenseful if not more so than the previous two. It had my guessing on possible outcomes. It held my attention to the point I didn't do a thing all weekend.Paige is the baby of the Carpino children, and she is the one that they worry about the most. But she's grown since book one, taking on a catering business and blogging about her food. She's not shy I'll give you that, she's a fun character who would make an absolute best friend for anyone. When she initially meets our hero Cam it's not the perfect meet and greet. No she literally walks into and ends up wearing his Dr Pepper all over her favourite tank top. So if that didn't annoy her enough his downright rude and gruff attitude just sealed the pissed off coming from her. Add in the teenage server getting an eyefull of Paige in a wet shirt you get the picture. When she runs into Cam next it's not what she expected. He's not what she expected! She's taking care of her sister's kids while her and her husband Lanny take a week off to celebrate their ten year anniversary. It's not just her sisters two boys she is also minding the two kids next door each afternoon until their dad collects them. And that dad is Cam.Cam hasn't forgotten the spitfire from the week before when he arrives to collect his kids Cara and Jordy he is shocked when Paige opens the door. Still with the attitude these two just have sparks flying off them. The chemistry is hot and you can't wait to see where it takes you.The ice does thaw in the case of Paige who happens upon his kitchen when she's over their with the children. She's in love and despair all at once. His kitchen is an absolute dream but it's also a pig sty. Cleaning it from top to bottom she can't help herself. When Cam see's what she's done he's surprised and intrigued. His temporary baby-sitter is not what he was expecting and he can't seem to stay away. The suspense comes in the form of Brian, Paiges best friend he's infatuated with her. To the point of obsession. It's downright scary the way he is towards her. Paige has known that Brian has feelings for her but she didn't realise how bad it was. Her sweet and caring nature, and not wanting to hurt his feelings made her ignore it. But when things start to move with Cam she know's she can't do it any longer. Hurt words and anger explode but she's made her choice. It's Cam and the kids.Throw in a greed selfish ex-wife (Cam's) and you get the picture. This woman takes the cake and you'll want to slap her also.Just when you think it's all perfect for our happy couple a comment from Cam has Paige making a decision that threatens to tear them apart. I'm on team Paige here. I can see where she is coming from. But when these two finally get back together you know theres going to be fireworks before, during and after. For those of you have read the previous two books you can expect more from the meddling family that is the Carpino's and when you throw in Cam's family the Montgomerys it sets the scene for some fun times. But theres also the love that comes from within. The steam factor is a given and these two tear up the sheets.

This was my favorite book in this series. There was so much going on that there was never a dull moment. There was a crazy ex-wife, a jealous friend, 2 cute kids, and two large and invasive families. There was romance and heartbreak and suspense. It was truly the complete package found in a book.

Cam Montgomery was a grumpy, alpha, single dad who hid his soft heart. He’d been burned by his ex and was still dealing with the fallout of her behavior. He lived his life for his kids and had his world rocked when the sweet but sassy Paige Carpino entered the picture. The first few times he ran into Paige, Cam did not make the best impression. But as he let his walls down, Paige fell hard for the single dad who lived next door to her sister.

Both Cam and Paige had people in their lives who caused problems. And they had a lot of hurdles to get over. They both loved Cam’s kids and the relationship between Jordy and Cara and Paige strengthened Cam’s love for Paige. As perfectly as they fit together, this was the first book in this series that included a third act breakup, and it was heartbreaking. Even through their breakup they never stopped loving each other and I really liked the way they took time apart to figure out if they could find a compromise.

The suspense in the book was woven throughout the plot. I loved the addition of the third perspective and the anticipation of when everything would finally come out.

This was a book I couldn’t put down. I loved all the new characters introduced as well as some characters from the other books getting some more background. Paige and Cam’s journey to a HEA was not easy, but it was worth the wait.

This was a good read. Great characters The male lead was a little overbearing at times, but definitely hot. Good story of families. Highly recommend it. No.murders or rapes, but a lot of hot sex.

This book was so sweet I think I got a cavity. Hahaha
This is the first book I have read by Brynne and I will definitely be reading more. If you like an alpha male and you’re ok with a man taking charge then you’ll love this book read it. If you get upset because a female lets the man tell her to stay without giving a reason Then don’t. This was very family oriented with a little spice. I’m invested in this family now and want to read more about them.

This was my 1st book by this author, and I thought it was the first in the series; spoiler, it’s not!
Anyways, it was well written, engaging and moved at a good pace. The author did a good job fleshing out the main characters and had a good balance of drama, sweet, romance, steamy and suspense.
I did see some reviews that claimed Paige was a firecracker. I disagree. Though she could be a little sassy, she was more or less a doormat that caved under very little pressure by every male in this book.
Here’s where I gotta complain and take away two stars: this is a contemporary novel, but it doesn’t read like it when it comes to any male that is mentioned in this book. I will briefly mention the dad and brother, both named Anthony. Both treated Paige like a child and basically ignored anything she said, talked over her and treated her like she wasn’t a full grown adult, living on her own and capable of making her own decisions. The amount of times they barreled over her objections, even regarding her own home, was so frustrating.
Onto the other male: the friend aka the stalker aka Brian. At the beginning, this “friend” treated her like her family. Blatantly Ignored anything she said, her needs, wants, her mental state, etc and just did what he wanted. Case in point: when she has her first fight with Cam and Brian just barges into her apartment, even though she said she was tired, not in the mood for company, etc. not only does he walk on in, he makes himself food and settles in on her couch. She asks him more than once to leave, and he just brushes her. Paige just takes it. At this point, with the males in her life, I would have gone crazy!
Lastly, Cam: not a big fan. He was the worst of them. Treated her like she was one of his kids. Was short with her via text. Forced her into things, like boot camp, even though she repeatedly said it wasn’t for her, and blatantly said she didn’t want to do it. Instead of respecting her wishes, he just said “you’ll learn to like it.” He never wanted to talk to her about anything difficult for him, but any time they had a fight, he tracked her down like a stalker, bothered her family and friends to find her, when he was ready to talk his terms. He was the epitome of selfish and chauvinistic. I like an alpha man with the rest of them, but this was not it. He was a jerk 95% of the time. Never hardly said I am sorry even when he was wrong, and if he told her to “calm down” one more time, I would have smacked him. Lastly, the amount of times she told him no, or to let her go physically, when she was angry, and he blatantly ignored her? Not ok. Not even for fiction.
I think this is one of the first books I have blatantly disliked the male lead and he never really redeemed himself. Even his non-proposal of marriage…he slides the ring on her finger in a car? Doesn’t ask? Doesn’t make it special after what he’s put her through? Same with when he banned her from her apartment and called the police. I get he was protecting her and his kids, but to talk down to her and then not communicate or let her know what was going on in her own home? He claimed he didn’t have time, but had time to call every male in her family.
That being said, for someone always telling Paige to calm down and always act like she can’t handle her own life, he sure needed to calm down at the climax of the book. Who bursts into the front door when your pregnant GF is being held at gunpoint? Real smooth. Way to get her and yourself shot by spooking someone who is not mentally stable. He couldn’t wait for the FBI agent, who was right behind him, who had a gun and come in the back? Or come in calmly? He could hear on the phone that Paige was calming Brian down, and idiot Cam (and Jude) come bursting in like two bulls in a China shop. So incompetent.
The worst part of all this, though, was HOW MANY TIMES WE HAD TO READ ABOUT CAM’s GOAtee! Omg. Goatees are from the 90s, not attractive, but if you insist on your male character having one, don’t beat us to death with that description over and over.
This could have easily been a 5 star with a better male lead, less facial hair descriptions, and some minimal basic respect to the female character and her feelings and listening to her. Like I said above, the story overall was engaging, entertaining and read well. I will try another book by this author, and see if it’s better.

I liked this. I enjoyed the read. Skimmed a little on the setting descriptions here and there but there wasn’t too much of that.

The “third act break up” was completely simple and understandable, which is good because I hate the miscommunication/drama trope, and then the road to the HEA was, predictable but no less enjoyable… and that’s kinda the reason why I picked up a book to read today; so that I could just slip away into a nice simple universe of romance with the promise of a happy ending. I’m happy.

I did have my doubts before reading because of some of the low reviews that complain about things that, after reading for myself, I don’t see, personally.
