Ok…covers should depict the story characters, don’t you think? I dunno who’s on the cover but it’s not Casey, the MFC. At any rate, NS succinctly and so adeptly conveys the importance of the Bolivian/Mafia status of Reyes. It’s quite frightening once you understand just how much power Reyes wields. NS gives us an excellent suspenseful story of a mafia boss who becomes obsessed with another mafia boss’s wife; but being more powerful, he’s able to overtake the other boss’s territory in a war, including the man’s wife. (Spoils of war and all that). It’s got just enough steam that doesn’t overwhelm the drama. I loved Casey. I admired her strong character and her determination to exact revenge for the execution of her family. I loved this story. It’s nothing original; violent Mafia boss unexpectedly being overtaken by his abnormal obsession for a woman. It was his love for her and his need to possess her that really got me. This powerful man dropping to his knees and worshipping her which brings her to her knees in turn. NS writes, executes and conveys this first installment of her story to perfection complete with a hea. However that cover picture does nothing to describe Casey and her WHITE BLOND HAIR.

I enjoyed this story. Casey and Reyes are good characters. The first part of the book is very good. Casey is a broken woman who is married to a horrible man. Reyes is a cold, cruel man who falls for Casey. After the death of her husband, Reyes takes her to his home. There are violent scenes and triggers. There are steamy scenes. Casey and Reyes are complex characters. The author gradually gives us clues to the mystery of Casey's past. I figured some of it, but I did not expect a lot of it.

There are two things you can count on that Nikita will provide without fail, an amazingly awesome plot driven story and a FLAWLESSLY written story!

One of the most important aspects of a story in my opinion, is a strong no holds barred hero. Reyes has the jealous overly possessive caveman vibes in SPADES! This guy is bigger than life! His personality, his aura, that ruthless Bolivian vibe is unapologetically fierce. Don’t mistake Reyes for a wimp due to his less than 6 feet stature. Reyes is lethal. And his oxygen, his heartbeat, his sanity, aka as Casey, is his perfect match! Nikita’s approach and execution of their characteristics.....incomparable! Casey is a warrior and she has the scars to prove it! I swear my lil nosey hind parts couldn’t read fast enough to learn about the scarred Queen! I nearly missed the entire reason for the title I read so hard! Wow just wow! What won’t kill you will only make you stronger....

Kudos to Slater for incorporating a WEALTH of invaluable information regarding a serious medical condition that plague millions of people worldwide: migraines. The wealth of information provided in this story certainly added depth and richness to the overall.

Last but not least, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the intimacy between Reyes and Casey! The physical intimacy deserves its very own song, movie, accolades....SOMETHIN’! In this story, Casey practiced abstinence (gotta read the story to get the story...no spoilers). But when Reyes got ahold to her, woooooohoooo! Reyes put something on her because the next thing I read, Casey was singing the National Anthem in C Sharp falsetto! Now that’s TALENT!

This was my first book by this author and I am hooked! Mia Knights Gavin Pyre has always been my #1 over the top, bad a$$, possessive, in your face alpha, but let me tell you......Mr. Reyes and his extreme, zero to rage in 1.2 glances too many at his beloved, and his I'll kill everyone you love if you don't fix my wifes head, all of his over the top protectiveness, puts him in a very close race with Gavin! Not to mention, Reyes didn't want to tame his woman(...well except for in the bedroom), but he wanted to unleash her, release Casey's powerful Queen, restore her confidence, her light, wanted her to stand beside him and not behind him like most Kings or Bosses would. He felt having his queen by his side made him more powerful, and instead of viewing it as a weakness as a lot of Alphas tend to think in the beginning of many books. I have no clue how this book only has 4 starts right now. This books deserves 5 starts across the board. The characters were amazing, the sex was effin hot, the female lead was fragile but strong, and the Alpha was all things bad n' juicy!

I am kind of torn in regards to that book. I liked it, than i didn’t, than went back and so on.
The bones of the story are pretty good -nothing special or super new, but solid. BUT the grammar is sometimes a mess, there are some continuity mistakes in the storyline and the main characters suddenly do a 180 personality switch during the last 4 chapters.

It was still a good quick read but nothing too special. Not the best book in the genre.

Meinung:
Der Schreibstil liest sich größtenteils leicht und flüssig, ab und zu gab es holprige Sätze, so dass ich diese mehrmals lesen musste. Das Buch ist aus der dritten Erzähl-Perspektive von Casey und Reyes geschrieben. Dadurch blieben die beiden leider auch auf Distanz, so dass es mir schwer fiel mit ihnen mitzufühlen.

Ebenfalls konnte ich die Verbindung zwischen ihnen nicht nachempfinden. Hier habe ich die gemeinsame Zeit, das tiefere Kennenlernen vermisst. Die erotischen Szenen sind hart und ausführlich beschrieben, passend zu Dark Romance. Es hat mir missfallen, dass sie kein Gespräch hatten, was auf sexueller Ebene für beide erlaubt ist und was nicht, wie z.B. Schläge oder die Hand auf der Kehle. Auch hatte Casey einige Male keine Lust auf Sex und er hat sie „überredet“… Dark Romance ist dark, das ist mir klar, aber ich möchte kein grobes und/oder gewalttätiges Verhalten zwischen dem Paar sehen/lesen. Zudem fand ich es schade, dass Safer-Sex kein Thema ist.
Die Grundidee hätte Potential gehabt, aber die Umsetzung hat mich leider nicht überzeugen können, auch wenn ich wissen wollte was es mit Caseys Vergangenheit auf sich hat und es hier einige Wendungen gegeben hat. Weniger Themen und dafür mehr Tiefgang wäre in meinen Augen besser gewesen.
