Disintegration: Indicators of the Coming American Collapse Kindle Edition
This book delves into the reasons for a catastrophic decline of the American nation, addressing a range of factors from the economic (especially energy), to cultural, technological and military factors. America’s deindustrialized economy is now deeply affected by what can only be described as a massacre of her small and middle-size businesses and the implosion of the US commercial aerospace industry. America’s only driver of real growth, the shale oil industry, is facing realities which may make the Great Depression pale in comparison.
Disintegration also seeks answers to the precipitous moral and professional decline of the always mediocre qualities of the American elites, from the corridors of political power to those of the military and business, now spiraling out of control.
More alarmingly, the trend also points to the possibility of the actual physical disintegration of the United States as a unified entity―whether the divisions are ethnic or ideological.
The most profound fault line is cultural―between the Coastal self-proclaimed elites backed by the secular, liberal media and deep state, who promote the most radical ideologies as it concerns gender and race, and the working class majority whom the former polemicize as deplorables, Christian fundamentalists, white supremacists, and climate and science denialists.
Investigating these factors sheds light on America’s future which holds very little promise for the country which had once proclaimed itself to be a shining city on the hill. The American collapse is not just coming, we are presently experiencing it.
How can we deal with a catastrophe which is unfolding before our very eyes?
Disintegration lays out some possibilities.

"...The sections of the book on American military prowess are where Martyanov’s expertise really shines through. Martyanov claims that a revolution in military affairs has already destroyed the foundation of American post–World War II hegemony and that America simply has not yet awakened to this reality. This is due to the fact, Martyanov says, that the United States has “lost both its competitive edge and its competences in some crucial fields such as building complex machines, commercial aerospace, and shipbuilding.” Effectively, he argues, the United States has already lost the arms race. Martyanov compares the efficacy of America’s Tomahawk missile with Russia’s Kalibr. He argues that both weapons have seen ample usage in recent years, and Russia’s missile is far more effective against missile defense. He points out that 70 percent of Tomahawks launched at Syria in April 2018 were shot down.
But this is not Martyanov’s core critique, which is that the American military is simply not tailored to the needs of today’s world. It is structured for incursions against much weaker opponents―such as Iraq in 1991 and 2003. But it is not in a position of strength when faced with a peer that can compete in terms of troop deployment and firepower...
...The book really comes into its own in the long sections on the American economy. These chapters seem especially prescient after Western sanctions against Russia failed to stop the invasion or decisively cripple the Russian economy, while causing increasing strains in the West. In a word, Martyanov views American prosperity as largely fake, a shiny wrapping distracting from an increasingly hollow interior..." --PHILLIP PILKINGTON, American Affairs Journal
"A multi-level analysis of the crisis which is now so clearly plaguing the USA of 2021. I consider Disintegration a “must read” for every US patriot who wants his country to overcome its current difficulties." ―VINEYARD SAKER
"Martyanov shows that America's disintegration is irreversible because the ruling elites are an organic part of the calamitous sources of dysfunction that have destroyed the country."
―PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

This was the downfall of what has become commonly known as the Davos Culture. The expanding freedom of exchange of ideas and information (now being curtailed), disclosed to many that for all the glitz and glamour of the dot.com billionaires and the “green” evangelicals, the world was and is still operating based on energy, machines, real production, and what amounts to basic physics and mathematics. IPhones do not grow on trees. They require gigantic resource extraction and processing cycles, which involve millions of people still getting every day into the coal mines somewhere in China. They require an electrical grid, the CNC and lithography machinery, which is being built around the world; they require massive metal ships and aircraft made out of aluminum, requiring bauxite to be extracted from the ground, they require the millions upon millions of engineers, designers, workers, doctors, and teachers who run the actual wheels of modern civilization. America has forgotten how it all works.
It couldn't have been otherwise. An increasingly pornographic culture dominated by celebrities, sports stars and media personalities, most of whom are barely educated in any practical sense but are nonetheless enabled to pontificate on subjects they have no clue about―such a culture was inevitably destined to crash. It was also destined to ignore the most important features underpinning modernity―the proper valuation of labor and the distribution and control of the national treasure―while focusing on fake intricacies of the “equality” of races and genders.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2022Mr Martyanov goes well beyond his own personal views with extreme knowledge and understanding of the current war situation in Europe; and the status of the US military's function with NATO in this situation. A must read for anyone whom depends upon the press and news TV in the west. It becomes much easier to understand the propaganda that we sense; but can't quite figure out WHY. The background on the continued deterioration of our culture helps understand the actions of Russia. I am NOT a proponent of war; but it is so obvious as to why Russia made this move. It is MUCH larger than Ukraine. My disqust with Western media has grown appreciably. I can't wait to read the analysis by Mr. Martyonov after this conflict ends (should he write one).

- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2021I have read some other works from Andrei which are also splendid and well written works but my God, this is his Magnum Opus! I am an American who lives in the US and everything that Andrei has covered in the book is 100% correct. My father came to the US from Mexico in the late 1970s and everything from that point on, (the catastrophic deindustrialization of the USA, the destruction of a sane political culture, the infantilization of American elites and young adults, to the complete destruction of the potential of the American working class) my father has told me growing up, Andrei covers with scientific and literary perfect tempo.
For everyone in the world who wants to see just how dire the situation is in the USA (also in Europe), read this book. The Combined Occidental is collapsing fast and the sooner the world sees it plainly, the faster that we as individuals and nations can prepare. For any Occidental citizen, please read this book. The book is a forewarning to how dire the situation is for us Occidentals and to how we must prepare individually for the inevitable collapse of the American Empire.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2024This is a superb analysis of the historical roots of the collapse of American culture -- politically, economically, morally and spiritually. Martyanov writes as an outsider looking in, and as a native American, you may not agree with all his conclusions. But I believe he has, for the most part, correctly diagnosed the terminal disease - the slow but relentless cancer - that is destroying America. This work is heavily footnoted and has an index (thank you!). It sadly loses a star because it needs much better editing. Martyanov often writes in stream of consciousness and English is not his native language. Articles are often dropped and sentences can run on to infinity. There were many sections I had to read over again - sometimes twice - to fully digest and understand. Was it worth it? Yes!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2023This is an essential read to help situate the reader about what's actually going on in the good ol' USA and where things have been/are headed. This book sure bursts the American hubris bubble but also serves as a start for realistic assessment and planning of the next sensible steps one may contemplate in order to respond to the tectonic changes underway. A must-read for any concerned citizen!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2022Having read this wonderful and prescient work I am not surprised by anything that's happening in world affairs today I'm able to walk through the scenes step by step as all the pieces fall into place as laid out chapter by chapter. In fact, with this unusual tome in hand you can abide by its blow-by-blow walk through and break downs of the hilariously mishandling of the US government at every level of its inept meddling interference in all sectors before they happen. A definite must read for people with brains.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2023Our nation is dead because of selfishness and ignorance. No Hollywood ending here as fiction is not truth. Sad to experience the plunge from greatness to absurdity believed by the slaves of media.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2021He certainly hits the nail on the head regarding America and its inability to see what is really happening to their Country. The looming problems if not addressed are going to cause a catastrophe socially, economically and in their agriculture. The soils in the US are now completely ruined because of Monoculture, Chemicals, death of bees and they will see crop failures soon with starvation a possibility. The Elites should be rounded up and shot for the coming catastrophe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two will be amazed, one will hate it
The one who will hate this book is an American (or any Western) member of the elite, or their minions (you know who you are).
Martyanov's main theme is the utter corruption, incompetence, narcissism, self-congratulation, megolomania, inexperience, and ignorance of the elite. This includes not only politicians, but academics, journalists, pundits, the military brass, diplomats, celebrities, Hollywood, and—you get the idea. Recent (August 2021) events in Central Asia provide fine validation
These people will defend the current state of the nation and swear that it is on the yellow brick road to a shining future. Whatever.
The first group of the amazed will be the low-info type who believes that "We just need to elect party/candidate X and everything will start to mend". These people will likely find out that things are much worse than they thought. They will not be amazed in a good way. They should probably avoid this book.
The second group of the amazed includes me and is people who seriously try to follow what is going on today and to understand it (I don't watch NetFlix). Nothing in the book was news to me, yet I found it breathtaking: the way Martyanov picks up and examines all the major trends and events of the era, including very recent ones (the book is amazingly fresh and up-to-date) and connects them to the Big Picture, is wonderful.
Matyanov examines pretty much all the major ills (all self-inflicted) in today's USA and West (because let's face it, we're all pretty much in the same boat—and that's up the crick with no paddle). His conlusions are honest and realistic, and therefore not encouraging.
Here and there he likes to contrast Russia with the USA, and for good reason. The Russians went through a terrible collapse in the 90s (he writes that they suffered 10 million deaths—I presume that means "extra" mortalities) yet today Russia has largely recovered and in many ways has moved ahead of the Soviet Union (and even the USA in certain areas).
I love how, towards the end, a symbol of Russian rebirth that he cites is the new Main Cathedral to the Armed Forces. I remember seeing videos of this church when it opened in May 2020. This wonderous monument is not something a dying nation builds. It is Christian, obviously, but he claims it is open to all faiths and ethnicities.
He writes that, by contrast, the USA is no longer capable of similar achievements, because the USA is no longer truly a nation, but merely a large collection of petty, squabbling tribes, whose future is not bright.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Important Book
Much of what is said in this book, I already knew explicitly or if not, had the intuition for. However, the arguments presented are so convincing as to leave no room for doubt. There is no appeal to controversy or conspiracy either. The facts laid are bare and undeniable. This is a short but critical analysis of the USA that may prove to be a very important record in the impending future.
