Using for off grid batteries LiFePO4

Using for off grid batteries LiFePO4
I am not using this in a vehicle, I live 100% off grid (since Dec '07), everything I have done is very much on the cheap until this year, I decided to add a secondary solar system that used LiFePO4 (Battleborn lithium iron battery) batteries, I wanted a reliable but inexpensive way to check on the voltage and health of my battery, I found this. I wasn't sure how well it would work, but since this is still a 12 volt battery, it reads it just the same as it would a vehicle's 12 volt battery.I like the fact that it's bluetooth, I don't have to go to my batteries to see what is going on, I can see the readout on my phone from my house. I have purchased 2 of these, one for my original system that has golf cart batteries (4 total), and the other one is for my Battleborn battery.I downloaded a different app from what the package recommends, it's from the same people, it's called BM3 (once installed it's called Multi-Batt Mon on my phone), it shows up to 4 separate monitors at the same time.Of course since I'm not using this in a vehicle, most of the other things this app shows are useless to me, but the main thing I want to see is my voltage on my batteries, I appreciate the fact that I can see a record or history of what has been going on.If you look at the photos I include, you can see one with the unit attached to my Battleborn battery. Another picture shows a typical day of voltage on my battery, but if you look at the third photo, you will see a series of abnormal spikes and drops in the voltage, it appears that my battery is having a heart attack! It began doing this most nights (always overnight when nothing was charging), but not every night, it took me a few days to track down the problem (an extension cord that apparently has a short in it or is in the process of failing), I would have not known about this problem without having this battery monitor attached, it potentially saved my very expensive battery and possibly some of my other equipment. Is it 100% accurate? I don't know, so far it has seemed to be close enough to what my meter says the battery is, I would say that it has more than paid for itself since I was able to be alerted to a problem that only happened at night (when nothing was charging), I might not have known that issue was happening at all, my battery or other equipment could have been damaged or had a lower life expectancy.I might buy a more expensive battery monitoring system in the future that is made for off grid use, but for now I'm satisfied with how this is working on both of my systems. My wish list for this (unit and app)1. I would like to be able to do screen shots from the app itself.2. It would be nice to be able to pinch and zoom in the history (the screen you see when you tap the battery pack voltage on the main screen).3. Add 24 volt capabilities.4. Perhaps add a digital readout on the unit itself showing the current voltage.5. Consider making another battery monitoring system that is geared to off gridders, I would be more than happy to consult with you about the needs and wants of those of us who live off grid and rely on our 12 and 24 volt systems. This is an untapped market that needs to be filled by someone.Bottom line:If you are using a 12 volt off grid system, and you want to monitor your batteries using a very inexpensive battery monitor, this is a good way to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Good - I have two Cars using this device
Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2021
I've had two devices on two different cars. The software is a little bit quirky to switch between the two devices. (You touch the settings gear on the top right --> Then Bluetooth Device...you can see your devices here.)

I would recommend if you have more than one to rename them so you can tell them apart. You touch the device and change the name. I left the MAC and just added the car year and model in front.

I have had both devices just kind of randomly stop responding. To fix that I've disconnected them from the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect it. One time it seems that when I took my car in for an oil change that someone sprayed something on the battery terminals and this device wasn't getting any power.

The main screen is helpful.. It shows in my case that the battery on my car is 99% charged and is currently at 13.0 V. So I'm sure that I'll have some battery power to start my car when I'm ready to go home.

One con on this device is that anyone with the software can connect to your device. I'm not sure that it matters too much if someone knows that status of my car battery. Unless the battery is about to fail.
