Unquiet Souls (Project Demon Hunters Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 369 ratings

Their chemistry could make their show a monster hit — if the monsters don’t kill them first.

On the surface, psychologist Audrey Barrett is the perfect co-host for Michael Covenant’s new cable series, Project Demon Hunters. She’s smart, articulate, and photogenic as hell.

There’s just one problem. Michael has made it his mission to stay out of her orbit. Thanks to his producer’s stubborn insistence, however, there’s no avoiding her — which means Michael will have to bury his secrets even deeper.

After the tragedy that took her parents more than ten years earlier, Audrey has kept herself on the fringe of the paranormal world. But with her small therapy practice floundering, the money the show’s offering is too good to pass up.

From the moment they step inside a rundown mansion, things start flying: sparks between Audrey and Michael, not to mention furniture hurled by something determined to make sure their investigation fails. Worse, evil seems to have followed Audrey home — and she discovers why the man at her side on camera is the last man she can trust in real life.

A native of Southern California, USA Today bestselling author Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in grade school. Because she's a lover of many genres, her books include paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and paranormal cozy mystery. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection. The Land of Enchantment cast its spell on her while she was researching her Djinn Wars series, and she now makes her home in New Mexico.

Despite a love of paranormal, I'm a bit of a wuss. I can't watch certain things after dark, can't read certain things before bed, and my daughter has been pre-viewing anything possibly "horror" before I watch it so she can mute it and tell me to close my eyes while she summarizes the scene since she was 12. I enjoy the stories, but I get heebie-jeebies.

I picked up this book to relax before bed one night. NOT a book for me to read before bed! And I mean that as compliment to the author. I made it to the first encounter with the dining room and switched to non-fiction before bed. I got back into this one at lunch the next day & couldn't put it down (daylight...I can read it in daylight without a chaperone).

It gets into the goods quickly and effectively sucks you in. There's the right amount of story questions to keep you wanting to turn the page for answers, but not so many you can't follow where you are with an idea of where you're going. I didn't want to put it down.

The pacing is just about perfect - slow and detailed where it needs to be for as long as it needs to be, but moderate and moving along the bulk of the story. The action scenes are quick and suspenseful. The details are set up before the real action so once it starts, it's going and you're going with it. Beautifully done.

The plot is well crafted and kept me engaged. The characters are believable and likable. And from a marketing standpoint, the last scene works. I spent hours seeing what's going to happen to Audrey & Michael today instead of doing what I was supposed to do - I did make it to the grocery store though, needed snacks for book 2!

Audrey did not know what she had gotten herself into. Signing up for a Demon Hunter show. She needed the money and now was stuck. I enjoyed this story, it is different .

Fantastic read. Love the difference in "paranormal" and demon, vs psychic... look forward to the next book in the series

I downloaded Unquiet Souls, book 1 of the Project Demon Hunters series, as a free ebook from Amazon. I'll start by saying, this book had a unique premise that caught my attention and bumped it up my reading list. While the open chapters started out really good, I didn't care for all the surprises and new gifts that seemed to pop up conveniently. I didn't care for Michael much either. A good read, but the couple dynamic doesn't work for me. I've read and enjoyed other books by this author, so I'll try another series by her.

This is another blockbuster story penned by Christine Pope. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Unquiet Souls—not wanting to stop reading even for a moment!! There’s lots of twists and turns to the plot…I found myself exclaiming “Oh Wow…I didn’t see THAT coming…” numerous times throughout the story. I can’t wait to read the next two books in the series (they’re on pre-order…)!!!

Loved this as a first in series book and will go on to read second in series. How could I not, after that ending! The relationship between the two lead characters will be interesting to watch unfold

I was reading along waiting to see what would happen next....and the book ended. Way to soon. The kind of book you just can't put down. Can't get enough.

Wow, this was an amazing book. It sounded interesting so I decided to take a chance on reading this. I had never read anything by Christine Pipe before. I am now hooked and plan on reading more in this awesome series as well as her other books.

It moved along at a great pace, has characters that will grab you and keep you wanting more. You cannot help but fall in love with them.

This book needs to be read, you will be not be sorry. Once you start you are sucked in and there is no putting it down until you are done.

An excellent start to a brilliant series.
Audrey is a psychologist who keeps afloat by helping people with their mental health issues, however her real love is the paranormal. When she is invited to co-host a show to rid a house of demons , the idea of a paycheck large enough to help pay her bills seems a godsend.
Orphaned at fifteen when her parents are killed, she has had plenty of problems of her own. The other co-host of the show is Michael Covenant, a entomologist with an unknown background. Sparks fly between them and they try to keep things professional as they work.
After spending time together Audrey finds out a secret about him she would rather not know. Can they work through it or will it be the end for them?
A must read for all lovers of paranormal romance and suspense.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea
Reviewed in Germany on June 7, 2021
Several things annoyed me so much I didn't finish the book just skimmed the last part.
Firstly I couldn't get a good grasp on Michael's personality and what I did see I didn't like all that much.
Secondly the MC seemed to be all mysterious or whatever but I thought it very aggravating that he didn't give Audrey help so she could better defend herself. She looked like a bumbling idiot dependent on others to safe her. Which is understandable in the beginning when she's confronted with a totally new experience but later on she only looked weak and Michael seemed to like it that way because he repeatedly and purposefully kept her in the dark. That's not what I want to read.
Thirdly the big reveal at the end of the book was pretty clear after the first few chapters
